Little girl handed over to US soldiers

Has anyone seen the video on the BBC website showing the little girl being handed over a wall to US soldiers at Kabul airport? She can only have been under 2 years old. I can't stop thinking about it. I wonder what on earth happened to her. I have a toddler myself and it's so upsetting (obvs upsetting regardless but the idea of feeling your only chance to save your child is to hand your baby over to a soldier is just terrifying).

Has anyone seen this or know any more if this story? Sadly I know it's just a tiny moment in a catastrophe full of horror stories.

Its just beyond imagination. I was watching a reporter on CNN and she was saying basically if family members lost each other in the chaos its pretty much impossible for them to find each other again. Thats terrifying to me and thats the tip of the iceberg. I was also listening to the woman footballer who told her teammates to destroy any record of them ever playing football.

I know much worse atrocities are happening over there that I can't even bear to think about but those two reports really brought it home to me. I just dispare, what have we done?

@Xoxoxoxoxoxox

My friend's sister is there and is outside the airport, she was evicted from her house by the Taliban a few days ago, her husband was killed in a bomb and she has 4 children, they are sleeping rough in an enourmous crowd of people, and are relying on handouts for food and water. She's just one of thousands, I think this is heading for a humanitarian disaster, even if no shots are fired. There's very little water, all the banks are shut and people there are cash based, there are thousands of displaced people living on the streets.
In addition, Western Union and the like have suspended all operations to Afghanistan, which, due to the huge numbers of people reliant on foreign remittances, is an absolute disaster

God, why?

Gosh! Why was my comment deleted? I was expressing a point of view. Beware of fake news. I didn’t call anyone a cunt unlike some.
You're some special kind of idiot... Bog off!
TSSDNCOP · 20/08/2021 18:48

Presumably WU think the Taliban will track people receiving funds and relieve them of them.

As I read it it looks like at least for now they think they simply can’t operate in country..

They don't operate in conflict zones.

TSSDNCOP · 20/08/2021 18:53

Yes @DingDongThongs we all agree she is an absolute treasure.
@BeauxRingarde

Which Army?
Any of the 30 member states of Nato.

In turns
In shifts
However

Because the alternative is not just turning our backs on the horrors that are already unfolding, but a complete slap in the face to the troops who have sacrificed twenty years to this battle.
Also - don't we still have soldiers in Germany? And probably other places as well.

DingDongThongs · 20/08/2021 19:01

@TSSDNCOP

Yes *@DingDongThongs* we all agree she is an absolute treasure.
Does she genuinely believe that though?
DingDongThongs · 20/08/2021 19:03

Nope permanent deployment of British Forces finished last year.

My Uncle met his wife whilst in the Army in W Germany.

TSSDNCOP · 20/08/2021 19:14

@GreyhoundG1rl no worries pet. The thing is, as someone said earlier Afghanistan is a cash country. Now things are so desperate prices are going to rocket for basics.

@DingDongThongs alas yes. It's ok though, fucktonnes lots of helpful posters have helped her out.

thelegohooverer · 20/08/2021 19:14

@CaveMum it made me think of the kindertransport too Sad

Only this time it’s not a history documentary I’m watching.

HarrisMcCoo · 20/08/2021 20:10

There's plenty footage on YouTube.

54321nought · 20/08/2021 20:12

this happened to my aunty, escaping from nazi Germany. Her parents hurled her onto a moving boat as they were gunned down. She was adopted into my grandmothers family

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 20/08/2021 20:17

They have said that no child will travel without its parent/s.

I’ve been following the situation of Pen Farthing, an ex Royal Marine who runs an animal sanctuary in Kabul called Nowzad. Hes trying to get his staff, who are Afghans, their families and animals to the U.K. Pen Farthings wife has managed to get out on a flight to Norway and reported that on the flight, which was mainly empty, as people can’t get to the airport, there was a soldier with a young child. Apparently the child had been handed over to the soldiers from the crowds. Pen Farthing has just done an interview on talk radio to highlight his cause but also mentioned that it is heartbreaking to think that that child’s parents are now somewhere in those crowds of people in Afghanistan without their child and this child is without her parents. So, obviously children are not all being handed back to their parents and are travelling without parents. This child will at least now hopefully be safe....but it’s heartbreaking.

WearsidePlace · 20/08/2021 20:20

For anyone doubting that this is a publicity stunt...I can assure you not. Their lives are horrific.

Having worked as a headteacher in a school taking Syrian refugees and being provided with the written records giving the background information of the children and families by the Home Office, I couldn't have even imagined the atrocities that I was reading about.
The information was unimaginable, I couldn't finish reading it.
With difficult and confidential information about any child we work on a 'need to know basis'.
The most I could say to my staff was 'imagine the worst that you see on Tv and times it by a 1000', impossible to even put into words.

IHateCoronavirus · 20/08/2021 20:49

I hope those children find peace, care from people who will love them like their own, and then as soon as possible be returned safely to the arms of their family.

I just can’t imagine the fear and the heartache. Sad

Just10moreminutesplease · 20/08/2021 20:57

It is heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how desperate you must be to try and pass your baby over barbed wire to a foreign soldier. Those poor people.

Wheretoeattweenandteen · 20/08/2021 21:24

"no possessions"

They are according to one Australian journalist, the biggest richest drug cartel in the world.

Apparently haaqani... Has been put as head of taliban security.
He's part of the most vicious evil network of bastards whose helped taliban /Al queda win.

Sky reporter whose there keeps stressing how nasty they are..
It's a human disaster, covid.. People crushed together, no toilets...

Taliban flooding into kabul...

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 20/08/2021 21:34

Feeling inclreasingly worried about my friends sister, she has four children, they are near the airport if anyone has any info about help they can access, they were evicted by the Taliban, sleeping rough. Photo's yesterday. We thought we'd show the photo as it is what's happening there.

TSSDNCOP · 20/08/2021 21:36

@Wheretoeattweenandteen absolutely there are people with immense wealth at the top of a cartel, but that doesn't filter down the ranks. I was posting about the army of foot soldiers, the ones indoctrinated or drugged to the teeth with heroin.

MotionActivatedDog · 20/08/2021 21:36

Sad I’m so sorry @Xoxoxoxoxoxox, I have no advice for her but I really hope they can get out of there.
