So, who still has their GCSE certificates?

So, I'm 36, I've been working 20 years and my new employer wants to see my GCSE certificates. So yes kids, they are important Grin

Admin/receptionist job.

Lost them years ago during a house move and its going to cost me several forms of I.D and £45.00 to get them from AQA.

Who else still has theirs 15+ years later?

I do, somewhere, although my a-levels came when I was living abroad and my parents lost them.
I'm glad kept them as the exam boards all changed after I did mine.

I've never been asked for either.
Only for my degree cert and transcripts for academic stuff.

Sleepingdogs12 · 20/08/2021 14:05

Yes, nearly 40 years later. Halo

TravellingSpoon · 20/08/2021 14:05

Yep, I have mine and know exactly where they are.

Yep, still have mine. I was the first year of GCSEs in 1988 so they are 33 years old now. I did actually have to show them at a job interview for the local council around 5 years ago too so glad I didn't lose them!

parietal · 20/08/2021 14:06

nope but I do (I think) have my degree & PhD certificates.

dh & I managed to lose the wedding certificate within 2 yrs of getting married & had to get a duplicate.

VikingNorthUtsire · 20/08/2021 14:07

I'm in my late 40s, still have mine and have had to show them to prospective employers.

I also worked in a school office and frequently had to break bad news to people who thought we might still have their certificates in our files, when they'd left in 1982.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 20/08/2021 14:07

I do, in the nice folder they have me from school.

Magpiecomplex · 20/08/2021 14:07

Yep. In my 40s and have needed them several times recently!

54321nought · 20/08/2021 14:08

I have all my certificates, 40 years later, you really do need to keep them. I am regularly asked for them.

Oblomov21 · 20/08/2021 14:08

Nope. Never had them, don't even know which exam boards I sat them on, but I know I sat on nearly every exam board there was, 30 years ago.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 20/08/2021 14:08

this must be a new thing? I've never had to show them, even when i worked for a law firm, this is just a car dealership.

God, I don't know. Perhaps? I mean, I didn't throw them out but I haven't seen them in decades. They must be in the most neglected spot in the attic next to a sega mega drive and a Walkman.

GintyMcGinty · 20/08/2021 14:10

Somewhere in a box in the loft with other bits and bobs.

I don't know what value they would be to an employer. I am fairly certain I couldn't perform a chemistry experiment or write a geography essay.

ElCaMum · 20/08/2021 14:10

🙋‍♀️ But I’ve never been asked for them…

MNmonster · 20/08/2021 14:10

My mum has them.

Our company only asks for evidence of your most recent professional qualifications. So I only needed my degree certificate. Thankfully, HR tool a copy so I haven't had to dig it back out yet.

We accidentally destroyed our wedding certificate within the first month... the vicar found it hilarious and admitted to doing exactly the same with his. (Washing machine.)
sofiathe2nd · 20/08/2021 14:11

Yup, but only because I lost the originals and ad to order duplicates. I’ve been asked for them every time I’ve started a new job

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 20/08/2021 14:12

I do, which was lucky as one of my exam boards doesn't exist any more and my last job wanted copies. They were a bit obsessive about proof of everything, I wouldn't have put it past them to ask for Primary school reports by the end...

JamieNotJames · 20/08/2021 14:12

I have and I'm 42.
Still in my lovely maroon Record of Achievement binder. Smile

I've never been asked to provide them for job applications however!!

goose1964 · 20/08/2021 14:13

My uni lost mine and the WJEC doesn't do duplicates.

OnTheBoardwalk · 20/08/2021 14:13

Nope I can’t even remember what grades I got

Started job recently and they just wanted a copy of my most recent qualification

GreyhoundG1rl · 20/08/2021 14:14

Regularly?!
clary · 20/08/2021 14:16

I've still got mine, more than 40 years later.

When I retrained as a teacher I had to prove I had a degree and Maths/English GCSE (well, O level in my case Grin)

UncomfortableSilence · 20/08/2021 14:17

I have mine in my Record of Achievement folder too!! Found it in the loft last week.

I've never been asked for certificates of any of my qualifications for a job?

Thekormachameleon · 20/08/2021 14:17

I had this recently.
