I don't know. I think it is very unusual they were destroyed. The PPO applying for them under the FOI Act I think was surprised. But as all this is under a cloak of invisibility, it's hard to establish.

Blossomtoes · 22/08/2021 18:56

I have no idea why unwillingness to keep going round and round the same well trodden path is “minimising”.

A lot of wealthy, middle aged men availed themselves of Epstein’s disgraceful provision of sexual services from trafficked women and underage girls. They should be brought to justice. That’s the bottom line for me. I want to see them punished and absolutely applaud Roberts’ courage in taking her civil action.

It would just be good if we could stop endlessly repeating the same old facts when regular posters to these two threads are well aware of them.

And retention of shift notes, presumably the seven year rule would apply? That’s the problem - all this happened 20 years ago.

@Roussette why are there no journalists looking at any of this? The questions we are asking are not mad.

Roussette · 22/08/2021 19:04

The minimising comment was not directed at you. (Which is why I specifically made it a new paragraph) and said 'we'.... the royal 'we' meaning Everyone!

Not sure about any 7 year rule, I would be surprised at that.

nottodaybatman · 22/08/2021 19:06

@Blossomtoes I am sorry I was not at the beginning of the original thread but to me the PPOs are interesting because if PA maintained his Epstein friendship until the bitter end those PPO could be useful eye witness for other victims to support their cases.

We don't know what safeguarding reporting they should have been doing and when? We do not know when their shift notes should have been destroyed?

I want virginia and all the women to get justice. UK police protection officers verifying times and dates etc could be so useful. I want to understand what the police should have been doing. I really wish a journalist would ask these questions.

Roussette · 22/08/2021 19:07

@nottodaybatman

I would like to know. The likes of the Independent and the Guardian plug away at it, but the rest... zilch... nada.. nowt.

This is scathing...

nottodaybatman · 22/08/2021 19:27

The British media looks craven and mad.
I am so disappointed and disgusted. But at least we all know where we stand, we know the priorities of the RF and their cheerleaders.

I really hope Virginia and the others get justice and hope Maxwell tells all on the men involved.

I think PA will step down voluntarily shortly, I actually think he is hammering out a golden parachute for himself, Fergie and his daughters.

CathyorClaire · 22/08/2021 20:38

Apparently PA did not have a good relationship with his PPOs

Maybe because he was prone to throwing things on the floor and shrieking at them to 'f'ing pick it up'.

www.thenews.com.pk/latest/881607-expert-warns-prince-andrew-should-be-worried-over-maxwell-deal

Experts believe Prince Andrew should be worried about the implications that may follow a possible breakdown of the Maxwell deal in court.

This claim has been made by a senior law firm that represents several of Epstein's reported victims.

According to Express, their claim read, “Maxwell is running out of time and options to try to drastically reduce her time behind bars if a jury finds her guilty.”

“We understand she is ready to fully cooperate with the FBI investigation into Epstein's empire by naming names, dates, times, and places.”

Before concluding the representative also added, “A lot of rich and powerful men around the world should be worried - including Prince Andrew.”

OverByYer · 23/08/2021 08:41

Interesting. I think it was inevitable. What has she got to lose?

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2021 08:48

Nothing to lose at all. It was always obvious that she’d sing like a canary if there was even a whiff of the possibility of a plea bargain. November should be very interesting.

OverByYer · 23/08/2021 08:49

Yes now the Handmaids Tale has finished it gives me another drama to look forward to.

KillingMeDeftly · 23/08/2021 09:07

You really have to wonder what sort of atmosphere Ghislaine Maxwell grew up in that she ended up a pimp for multi-millionaires. Her father was vile by all accounts although his rise from penniless Czech immigrant who escaped the Holocaust to one of the most powerful men in Britain is almost the stuff of fiction. In fact I think it did become a novel?

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 09:23

Of course she will sing, why keep quiet? No one she protects will be in a position to help her. Once she was found by the authorities I imagine all her clientele starting subtly scrubbing any evidence of their previous connections.

I hope she drags them all down with her.

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 10:11

I think in the next week or 2 PA will publicly choose to step back.

I think the noise about H&M etc is of course a distraction but I also think they are trying to buy time.

PA has one redeeming feature in that he always looks after his daughters and Fergie. I imagine the reason Fergie in particular is in Balmoral is that PA is negotiating the cost of his stepping back. The girls do not get tax payer funding - I imagine he will want life time leases for properties for the girls and lump sums for all of them. Plus additional amounts to cover the cost of Virginia's legal case.

Also thinking about the random leaking about the Royal Lodge - perhaps the story was leaked so they can state that he swapped the Lodge lease for whatever smaller property that he moves to. He will also get Rota downplaying the story and treating his daughters and Fergie softly.

In return he will "step down" and give up him costumes and baubles. The press will state how relieved the Q is that her son has done the honourable thing. Isn't Charles a strong King in the making by steering the family through? Arent the Cambridges kind peacemakers by doing a few photo ops with Beatrice and Eugenie in spite of PA?
postscript [aren't M&H terrible in comparison]

The RF cannot ride out this situation without some sort of resolution. Also as much as I think their spin is clumsy. We know that they have hired professional PR re PA so they are clearly laying the ground work for an epic reverse ferrret.

Roussette · 23/08/2021 10:36

@KillingMeDeftly

If you're interested in Ghislaine, I can highly recommend 'Finding Ghislaine' podcast. It chronicales her family, her upbringing, her ghastly Father, the fact she was doted on and adored by him, and how it shaped her life.

Roussette · 23/08/2021 10:40

@nottodaybatman

That is interesting and I agree. One of the daughters and husband has until recently been living in 80roomed Royal Lodge. Eugenie and husband are in Frogmore. So they really will be looked after.

what happens with the ex wife is anyone's guess.....

Will he really give up that Grenadier Guard thing though? He loves that uniform with all the gold tassels.

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 10:49

@Roussette

All hypothetical of course.

I think the latest non story about H&M is so tenuous that I just thought they need more time for something to be hammered out.

BringBackThinEyebrows · 23/08/2021 10:55

I just looked at headlines from the UK media- The Guardian, The Times, The Sun, ITV, Metro, Daily Mail, The National, The Telegraph, Manchester Evening News are just some of the news outlets who have published articles in the last 2 days about Prince Andrew. They all mention the link to Epstein and the sex abuse case.

Posters on another thread commented about a story about H&M being a distraction. There are far fewer articles about H&M than Andrew. The UK press is not failing to report on Andrew from what I can see.

Is there an update on Andrew that is being reported elsewhere and the press has failed to make public? Why are people saying H&M are a distraction? I'm interested in the data for this.

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 11:03

Whatever happens the York girls are not part of the slimmed down future.

Weirdly the person I feel for is Sophie Wessex and her children, they are the only candidates to be royal whipping boys. The York girls will be off limits and beyond a hard core racist sub grouping of people who do not like H&M, it is a struggle to generate the constant outrage for each perceived infraction.
H&M are boring too, just like the Cambridges - they have little kids and they do charity stuff. The Rota would rather eat their own faces than positively promote the charity work or other activities of H&M so all you have left is constant rage/offence for what ever they are doing.
It is very very transaparent and with the Maxwell trial potentially dragging on for years the Rota will need more particularly if PA is embroilled in that trial.

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 11:08

@BringBackThinEyebrows
If you read the articles about PA and compare to M&H - tone is far less hysterical.

Also if you look on twitter the rota are not retweeting as agressively the PA articles... But most noticeable people like Angela Levin and Camilla Tominey are all over day time tv in the UK and US the moment it is suggested H&M initend to potentially fart in public. The rota are oddly quiet. Piers Morgan is oddly quiet as is the BBC.

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 11:22

Also PA is accused of a serious crime against children
He knowingly maintained a friendship with a paedophile, rapist and trafficker for over 15 years.

This is serious stuff.

The rage against M&H, the racism towards Meghan and their children. The constant hunt for a new perceived slight or further evidence of wickedness is off the charts. Multiple articles in each newspaper taking a new angle to demonstrate what terrible woman she is, retweeted ever hour, the rota running from studio to studio to repeat the talking points. Dozens of tweets from Piers to really hammer it home. Whole threads on MN filled in a matter of days. 20,000 comments on the DM articles. BBC royal correspondent on the R4 Today / tv news breathlessly repeating the latest palace source stating how upset Q is.

Where is that energy for PA.

CathyorClaire · 23/08/2021 11:22

On the face of it Andrew has literally nothing to negotiate with. He's already stepped back from public life, lost his patronages and tested the water for a return that clearly wasn't going to be tolerated by the public.

The palace have already made clear he's not going to be wheeled out for next year's Jubilee and I can't see the royals conceding lifetime leases, lump sums and potentially millions in court costs in exchange for a pretty dress suit even if it does have all the bells and whistles especially when there are rumblings of discontent from the regiment already.

His best hope is in knowing where, when and by whom the bodies are buried but then again he's undoubtedly too honourable to spill Wink

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2021 11:27

Will he really give up that Grenadier Guard thing though?

He won’t have any choice, he’s hardly in a position to bargain.

Why on earth would you feel sorry for Sophie Wessex @nottodaybatman? She’s going to be stepping up even more than she does already and she seems pretty popular.
