Copied from a FB post

Tonight not tomorrow tonight we desperately need the help of each and everyone.

Practical action please can everyone tweet Boris Johnson and your own mp and post on their facebook pages and instragrams with #Nowzad animal shelter Afghanistan, save its staff from certain death.

For those who don’t know Nowzad set up the first ever animal shelter in Afghanistan its has dogs, cats and even donkeys. It was set up by former royal marine Pen Farthing. It trains young women and has trained 500 young vets since it started. They will be seen as British collaborators and face certain death and for the women worse, if the 25 staff and their families are not got to the safety of the UK. Please act now as they Nowzad did for the Afghan people and our troops. Tomorrow is too late it has to tonight.

So pleased and relieved that the UK govt have backed down and will seek to arrange a slot for Pen’s plane if he can make it to the airport with his animals.

@snowballer @WanderingFruitWonderer - agree with your comments. I too am finding this thread an unpleasant read. I don’t believe anyone wants animals to be prioritised over people, but there is an overwhelming sense that some people on this thread are just desperate for him to be thwarted. Because he’s annoying, because it looks bad... I think if you could guarantee beyond question that animals could be saved without any detriment to humans, some people on here wouldn’t like it. I also find comments about how he should have done this, that or the other from people who will never have experienced anything remotely like this situation rather infuriating.

He should have left months ago being a prime example - just before the taliban took Kabul reporters were talking in awed terms that they might get it within the week. Awed because that was a huge development from the month period that was feared just before. The speed that events took place at was not expected by people in government, and yet there are posters on mumsnet ridiculing a guy who runs an animal sanctuary for not getting his act together months ago.

Some posters’ skills are clearly being wasted as they could be out there sorting it out.

'You called a whole load of people "knuckle draggers"

I was referring to unpleasant prats on Twitter. McGill and Dyer getting everyone whipped into a frenzy, it is ridiculous. This is a humanitarian crisis. 'Operation Ark' makes me angry on behalf of the many left behind.

The processing of 200 animals will make the queue even longer for desperate people.

@Doodlebug71

What is it with some people? "Knuckle draggers" "keyboards warriors"? There's a tendency amongst the Tories and their supporters to denigrate anyone who does the right thing, or supports other people doing that

Ex mil floating Labour’ish voter here actually who has a tiny bit of insight into how overstretched the women and men on the ground in Kabul must be at the moment and is perhaps less then impressed with the social media campaign, some of it certainly disinformation.

And since I used the “keyboard warrior” comment, yes I stand by it..…it’s very easy to sound big and take internet potshots at politicians, not so easy to volunteer to put your little pink body in harms way.

Hi all, just dropping by to remove a few personal attacks. Please do try to keep things civil - and if you have any concerns about a post or poster then please report. Hopefully things will get back on track now.

You removed *my posts, which were perfectly civil, but left others, which were not. Shame on you.

I am one of those "knuckle draggers" you referred to on twitter.

MN: how is janiieJones post acceptable, and yet mine, calling her out on that is not?

Kendodd · 25/08/2021 19:47

If you think some posters on this thread are bad have a look at LeaveEU on Facebook. They would really sooner see people executed by the Taliban than come here and people openly say that and get hundreds of likes. Very, very few depending voices

Kendodd · 25/08/2021 19:48

The worse thing is, these people won. This is their government and they have huge support for them.

Errno · 26/08/2021 05:30

I wouldn’t put my little pink body on the line for our politicians ideological wars. Though to the fair, they don’t put they own little pink bodies on the line either.

I’d much rather have Pen Farthing next to me in a crisis than Boris Johnson, Dominic Raab or Ben Wallace. Loyalty, courage & integrity. They could learn a few things.

Shanghaisprize · 26/08/2021 10:34

Once again, no good news this morning:

I just hope they have brought the necessary medication to euthanise those poor animals if they have to rather than let them die a slow and painful death in the heat.

Apparently the UK forces are 'powerless to help' and they hope the public understand. Actually, no - I don't understand. Thousands of our UK forces, people's sons and daughters were injured and killed when they were sent to a war we had no business in nearly 20 years ago.. And for what - for the Taliban to have us by the bollocks 20 years on? I'm beyond disgusted with those who caused this.

I'm also sceptical that the risk of a terror attack at the airport is any greater now than it was before. After all, turning people away from the airport 'for their own safety' sounds a lot more palatable than sorry guys, but we're out of time to save you now the US have fucked off. And telling people to head to the borders and they will be helped there instead makes it sound like there is a viable alternative to flights out to safety, when they know fine well the vast majority will now have no chance whatsoever to make it there alive.

The entire situation is a complete fucking disgrace.

FedNlanders · 26/08/2021 10:38

Left me in tears this morning :(

SueSaid · 26/08/2021 10:40

'I'm also sceptical that the risk of a terror attack at the airport is any greater now than it was before. '

Please stop the conspiracy theories, if there is a new credible isis threat they of course have to act on it.

As the situation seems so bleak I'm not sure it is appropriate to discuss it anymore tbh, they've left it too late and we can all now only hope and pray Farthing and his staff manage to get out without any harm coming to anyone.

Errno · 26/08/2021 10:42

Absolutely heartbreaking and agree with everything you say @Shanghaisprize

Saucery · 26/08/2021 10:43

The UK govt don’t even want to help his staff escape, do they? Utterly callous negligence.

So would you put your little pink body on the line as a member of HM Forces for humanitarian purpose, in Kabul, right now?

Once this is all over there needs to be a grown up discussion about what role the great British public want their armed forces to perform and how much they are prepared to pay for them to perform those roles.

I get the impression that prior to this around here a lot of the time the Forces were regarded as being a waste of money and anybody who asked for opinion on whether DS or DD should join up was met with howls about them going off and shooting people..

Now all of sudden they are in the thick of a humanitarian operation and I suspect for about 5 minutes the forces will be seen as slightly respectable….

Meltinthemiddle · 26/08/2021 10:55

Apparently they are stuck outside the airport. Praying they inside 🙏

Doodlebug71 · 26/08/2021 11:00

@Shanghaisprize. Completely agree with your views on this "terrorist threat". The US wrapped up Kabul and put a bow on it, then handed it to the Taleban, with Biden's name on the gift tag. They've had the Taleban "doing security" for some time now (standing around terrorising people) and now they decide there's a terror threat, so they can't possibly move any more people?

How absolutely convenient for them. The Americans announced the threat of a terror attack some days ago. Interesting that it's taken until this precise day to decide to stop. They would have known what they were going to do when they told Farthign to get his animals and staff to the airport. They appear to have set him up.

Super-callous, fascist, racist, Tories are atrocious. They are incredibly cruel and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it turns out they did this on purpose and set him up.
