Cats. Why do they do this ?

That is, if you're sitting at a table or desk, reading a magazine or newspaper or doing some work at your laptop, cat or cats come and sit right on top of said publication or directly in front of the screen, thereby obscuring your view. Are they trying to attract your attention or just being twat pests for the sake of it ?

Because they are arseholes. I knew this was the answer before I opened the thread. I have a cat who I adore btw, but it's still true.

You are considered to be neglectful of your duties as Dcat Slave... They are mearly pointing that out...

lljkk · 14/08/2021 20:12

Just reminding you where your attention should be focused. Know thy priorities.

Because they can 🤷🏽‍♀️

aerosocks · 14/08/2021 20:14

Try sitting there working while eating a sardine sandwich and see what happens Grin

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 14/08/2021 20:15

Because they have cattitude. You’re not paying them any attention, and they probably want there 10000000 meal of the day!

Cleverpolly3 · 14/08/2021 20:15

All part of their charm Grin

WildRosie · 14/08/2021 20:16

I confess I'm not a cat owner, or even a cat's possession, but I have lived in a household with a very alpha-male cat and this is how he behaved.

I have a cat, he is fickle. Apparently it's an imitation thing, but I think they do this to be a pain and get attention Grin

TheSunIsStillShining · 14/08/2021 20:36

The beauty of this.... Especially if you opted to have an extra large breed, where the half year old kitten is already 5 kg heavy. :)

WildRosie · 14/08/2021 20:40

Do your cats also purr at maximum volume or groom themselves vigorously whilst stopping you from reading, working etc?

What doesn't my cat do to be the centre of attention????

Cuddles where you feel violated as she wraps her paws around your neck and head nuts and washes you.

Scratches her nails down the door if I dare have it shut.

Yowls the house down periodically.

Manages to sit in front of my dual screens whisky working.

Lays down on the mouse mat, keyboard or stretches out in front of it

purpleme12 · 14/08/2021 20:45

Because they love you

WildRosie · 14/08/2021 20:52

I like the idea of "whisky working".

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/08/2021 20:57

Because cats are attention seeking world-ruling (in their minds) cants. That’s half cat, half ..something else. I am owned by three of the buggers. I adore them, but they are cants!

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/08/2021 20:57

Ps what is whisky working… I think we need to know

Theunamedcat · 14/08/2021 21:00

Because your busy try doing nothing they will completely ignore you

RandomMess · 14/08/2021 21:01

😂😂😂😂

Whiskey Working

WFH full time in pit of despair whilst dreaming of alcohol.

The cat and dog love me WFH as they can keep their beady eyes on my ALL THE TIME and provide endless cuddles and meet every demand they make 😭

What @coastergirl said but followed immediately by me hissing "Now listen here you little shit"

If I sound bitter there is a reason, I am bitter.
I spent most of the last two days trying to workout how to get my laptop display back to normal as it was zoomed in AND upside down, I still have the woman telling me what I'm typing and looking at onscreen, the cat did that about a week ago and I just haven't bothered to switch her off as I know she'll be turned back on when he dumps his fat arse on my laptop again tonight.

As soon as I pick something from Netflix to watch he begins to hover but he lets me get to a good bit before leaping clumsily onto the keyboard(which is already missing C, K, A and Space bar keys because of him) and fucking it up in some way.

Oh and the Airplane mode button....

Yeah arseholes.

DomingoinLittleOakley · 14/08/2021 21:28

My cat is the most anti-social animal ever. I am the only person she will tolerate in the slightest, but only displays her love for me when I am working, when she walks across my laptop and flops down, pressing all of the mystery buttons to make things zoom in and out instead of scroll up and down.

She knows exactly when I will be in a webex meeting, and will be out for hours doing cat things until I have an important meeting, when she will mysteriously appear and flaunt her bumhole at the camera. She (and her bumhole) are now semi-famous in Geneva, Lugano, Singapore, Hong Kong and Miami.

She does it because she can. There's no other reason for a cat to do a thing.

Bakewellisntjustacake · 14/08/2021 21:37

If you give your cat a mini version of what you're doing so a little iPad set up as a lap top they'll sit at theirs whilst you do work it's weird but true!!

Do you have one like this? My adult cat is 5 kg and he's quite big (NFC), I'm intrigued to know what breed the kitten is!
RandomMess · 14/08/2021 21:50

MILs Maine coon is 11kg her others are more like 9-10 tbh

Papergirl1968 · 14/08/2021 22:00

I don’t know why they love laptops, maybe because they’re warm? But apparently they love lying across newspapers because it reminds them of when they were kittens.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 15/08/2021 09:44

My cat whilst I was on a video call last week. I didn’t mind leaning over her to type but she’s so fluffy and moulting that I kept getting fur somehow wafted into my mouth. But I mean, what can I do? She wanted a cuddle 🤷🏻‍♀️
