Don't know whether to go to hospital.

My went over on my ankle. Put other foot down quickly and my big toe bent underneath me. All my weight went on the folded big toe. Heard a distinct crack.

Big toe twice the size of the other.

Shooting sharp pains.

Can't place any part of foot on the floor.

DH says elevate and ice - which I've done.

Not sure if it's broken. 🙄

Oh bless you. Sounds really painful. I hope you get seen soon. It's a PITA going to A&E these days. Big hugs.

adeleh · 15/08/2021 03:46

You poor thing. I hope you are seen very soon.

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/08/2021 04:16

Oh lovey. That is harsh, especially the nil by mouth. Hope you get to see someone soon.

Oh man you poor thing

NanaPorsche · 15/08/2021 04:39

Whole foot swollen.

Bruising coming out nicely.

Small fracture.

No weight bearing until all swelling gone. Then going back for boot.

I'm far too old for crutches - no upper body strength plus two recent-ish frozen shoulders. 😳

Don't know whether to go to hospital.

Hope you’re on your way home now op. You must be shattered.

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/08/2021 06:39

Brew Cake Rest up OP. My local hospital don't give crutches anymore, not even to young 'uns with broken ankles. When I questtioned it, they said crutches = more accidents. The boot will help though. Have a Sunday doing absolutely nothing x

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/08/2021 06:39

questioned, even

starfishmummy · 15/08/2021 08:26

@NanaPorsche - what about a knee scooter?
Yes these are a thing!! Have a google

lljkk · 15/08/2021 08:37

so not really any treatment at all? irk.
did they at least give you some painkillers?

HmmmmmmInteresting · 15/08/2021 08:48

Gosh what a nightmare wait!

Disneycharacter · 15/08/2021 10:08

But you don't know it's the toe that's broken. It could be a bone in the foot. No one has X-ray eyes. Minor injury unit with X-ray is ideal.

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/08/2021 10:09

A&E. mum broke her big toe and had to wear a boot thing for 6 weeks to put it right.

Floralnomad · 15/08/2021 10:17

Hope you are feeling better today @NanaPorsche

LandGirlJudy · 15/08/2021 10:21

dane8

Fgs send her home, why is she waiting?
Are you not capable of calling Uber taxi

Unnecessary and assuming everyone has Uber where they live Hmm (none round my way)

LandGirlJudy · 15/08/2021 10:22

Plenty rest (not easy, I know) and hope it heals soon Flowers

CommanderBurnham · 15/08/2021 11:59

Hope you've had a nice big breakfast and you've got both your feet up.

NanaPorsche · 15/08/2021 12:01

What a great idea - knee scooter. I have so much to do and I can't even be bothered to make myself a cup of tea because of the pain. Still very swollen under the ball of my foot and placing any part of foot down is too painful. Leaving it last min to go to the loo isn't particularly a good idea either.

I've also accidentally 'kicked' furniture since Ive been home and moving about. (Don't normally.). I also fell back into the footwell of the taxi when trying to get out this morning. I hope no neighbours have cameras - they must've thought I was rolling drunk. (I don't drink.)

I didn't get even a painkiller. I have paracetamol here.

No mention of high blood pressure or ECG results.

I've not been feeling great for a couple of years when I think about it. I've put it down to being busy, ageing and menopause. (Breathless on least exertion and incredibly tired all the time.).

I also have 'the rage'. I thought I would be irritated by the long wait - but I was sort of 'resigned'. There were some comings and going's in A&E - quite entertaining really.

Oh you poor thing.

I do think you should go to your gp to follow up on the blood pressure thing. When you can bear to go that is in a couple of weeks!

Wombat64 · 15/08/2021 13:08

Definitely get your blood pressure and bloods done. Women present differently with heart problems, so often go undiagnosed.

Bumply · 15/08/2021 13:26

For high BP it could have been the stress or white coat syndrome pushing it higher than normal.
Worth buying a basic BP monitor for ~£20 from chemist and taking morning and afternoon readings for a few days.
I'm on medication for high Bp and have my own monitor. With appointments for Gp being limited they've got an online form where you can put details of BP measurements taken at home and they can arrange appointment/medication if you're still getting higher than normal readings

Justilou1 · 15/08/2021 13:43

Just letting you know that you can safely take Ibuprofen and Paracetamol at the same time and this will help your pain levels, and decrease your swelling. It is very important to stay on top of medication timings - paracetamol every 4hrs and ibuprofen every 6hrs, rather than waiting for pain to remind you. Obviously you don’t want to accidentally double-up, so set alarms on your phone and have your meds nearby. Ibuprofen works by bringing down the inflammation and swelling and paracetamol is brilliant for bone pain. Together they’re a great team!!!

In the meantime, try and keep your foot elevated on a pillow to try and minimize bruising and swelling and keep activity to the barest minimum. (I know, right???) I would also try to ice it - nobody likes this experience, but it really helps with the pain and swelling. Frozen peas are fabulous ice packs for feet as they mold around the foot and can be put back into the freezer and re-used next time. (15 mins max for ice as it affects circulation.)

Justilou1 · 15/08/2021 13:44

*Dont apply the bag of peas directly to the skin. Wrap it in a teatowel first!!!!

iklboo · 15/08/2021 13:44

Oooh poor you OP. I sympathise. I have a lovely trick of bending my toes under me going upstairs. I've broken all but my left big toe over the years, most several times. It bloody hurts!

Can you do an online shop / ask a neighbour to pop out & get you some other painkillers? Ibuprofen, OTC co-codamol short term, then call your GP tomorrow for some prescription meds. Voltarol gel might also help with the pain.

NanaPorsche · 15/08/2021 14:48

Many thanks for all suggestions.

I will ring GP at 8am.

I've been thinking - my legs generally feel heavy and my family say I limp. My feet and legs hurt when walking generally. I have a big problem with cramping in the foot which 'crumbled' underneath me yesterday. Every time I allow my right foot to relax it cramps so I've been having to hold the foot a certain way as I'm walking. It wakes me up constantly. I also get in a state when driving. I frequently have to stop the car, jump out and do 'the cramp dance' as if cramp sets in my foot, it can spread up my leg.

It's something that's gradually getting worse and I have very early symptoms setting in, in my other leg.

I'm sat with leg high up and speculating that there's something scary going on.

I'm my own worst enemy - I like being busy. I'm not a sitter - I'm bored already.

Just started watching Homeland on Netflix.
