Inspired by watching El Camino on Netflix... Lots of breaking of burner phones. Literally just snapping them in half... Er I'm sure that doesn't stop your phone being traced.. Surely it's the sim card you need to destroy..
What do you find unrealistic in films or on TV?

Someone will probably have said this already, but if you're good-looking in a film and get in a fight, you only ever end up with a non-bleeding thin scrape on one cheekbone. If you're not conventionally attractive, you'll get the crap beaten out of you and end up a snotty, blood-covered mess.

@GetTaeFuck

I don’t think their problems are being a thick jock and having braces. Sue fails to make any teams/struggles to stand out from the crowd and their youngest child is in a special social skills group because he isn’t able to connect with others and has tics/unusual behaviours. So they aren’t what a pp described as perfect, top of the class children.

Always managing to have the most elaborate fancy dress costumes for a party they were only invited to the day before.

BorderlineHappy · 13/08/2021 21:54

Walking in to their house and not turning on any lights.
And not standing on rogue lego.

Also hearing a noise and going in to the basement or attic.

The nerdy girl just needs to take off her glasses and then shes hot.

Tessie87 · 13/08/2021 21:54

People accepting cups of tea and coffee with both hands wrapped around the mug, and drinking from it straight away, without blowing or taking a tiny sip to check the temperature

The quads in Corrie finished me off. So unrealistic how they would all nod off at the same time. Very silly storyline

MouseholeCat · 14/08/2021 00:04

Full-term pregnant women always seem to have tiny neat bellies and never gain any weight during their pregnancies. I get that it's hard to get the actress to gain, but at least put a realistic full-term belly on them and have them looking tired!

Lots of unrealistic housing situations. Families having big houses in expensive areas with jobs that totally don't correlate, for example.

WeatherwaxOn · 14/08/2021 10:05

In real life I had a neighbour who would never say "goodbye" or close a conversation on the phone. When he had finished saying what he was saying he'd just hang up.
(In retrospect he obviously had some social difficulties).

Also, several of our friends only ever knock on our front door, despite us having a fully functioning doorbell.

FoxgloveSummers · 14/08/2021 10:14

“Boss I’ve just found out something really important I need to tell you -”

“Not now Clive I’m busy, you’ll have to tell me later”

No one has ever done this in a high pressure situation right?

FoxgloveSummers · 14/08/2021 10:16

On a similar note

“I know who the killer is”
“don’t tell me now, meet me at 3 tomorrow by the hollow tree [to give the murderer a nice chance to kill you first]-“

@MostlyNormalSometimesOdd

I’be been a chef for 35 years and not once has there been a good guy chase a bad guy through my kitchen. If I’d known this was the case I’d have chosen a different career path
I would have agreed and still do largely but I must report I have seen this. Small mid western town. Out for breakfast and in burst a guy who ran full length of diner and into the loos. Then two uniformed officers burst in who were holding pointed firearms who ran through. My pancakes fell from my mouth I’m sure as we all ducked. Didn’t see the denouement as none of them came back - I assume the chase continued through a back door. mostly I so wish you could have been a short order cook on the line that morning to validate your career choice !
SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/08/2021 12:35

Most military/armed forces dramas or films are hopelessly inaccurate. Especially how uniforms are worn -beret shapes and placement make me wince. The saluting is done at the wrong times or with the hand/arm position wrong. The way officers and men talk to each other or the forms of address are generally false. The families, quarters, offices etc do not reflect the reality either. That being the case I imagine the police, medics etc are all poorly portrayed too.

CharityDingle · 14/08/2021 12:59

I used to watch Home and Away, years and years ago. When people wanted to discuss something privately they always sat somewhere that anyone could walk straight into. E.g. Tom and Pippa's house. Anyone could walk in, or anyone could be sitting within earshot of the discussion, without being seen.

Always managing to have the most elaborate fancy dress costumes for a party they were only invited to the day before.
Also, when they need a new outfit for a wedding, they go to the mysterious nearby town, and return with a fabulous outfit, hat, the works, in very fancy 'designer looking' bags.

Way back, in Emmerdale, when Brenda was recovering from cancer, Bob returned from Hotten with a beautiful outfit for her, for whatever occasion was coming up.

cakeseeker · 14/08/2021 13:39

Jane the Virgin is the exception for some of the baby rules - baby is mentioned or in every episode, and childcare and motherhood takes up a lot of time and energy and focus. But even they skipped the toddler years Grin

hagsrus0 · 14/08/2021 18:42

Beautifully decorated elaborate cake - I can only remember one time that nobody hurled it or fell into it.

Have a secret to tell? There's always somebody lurking round the corner or in the next toilet cubicle.

BorderlineHappy · 15/08/2021 10:02

The thing that really annoys me is when a newcomer comes in to Corrie.
And they start a vendetta against Fiz.
The newcomer is always believed.
Like come in,you've known them 5 minutes and Fiz forever but you believe them.

Serial killer in the house.. Dark house.. Don't run outside.. No!... Run upstairs!!!

Kanaloa · 15/08/2021 12:34

Serial killer in the house.. Dark house.. Don't run outside.. No!... Run upstairs!!!

And when you get upstairs, don’t bother grabbing a bat or a knife and standing with your back to a corner with the big light on so you can see everything. No, instead walk around your massive house with all the lights off and no weapon or phone, calling ‘hello’ in a shaky voice every so often. Make sure you walk straight into rooms too, so someone can jump out from behind the door. And don’t even consider throwing a window open and screaming for your neighbours. Instead it’s better to just whisper hello repeatedly.

sashh · 15/08/2021 14:25

Woman is kidnapped by random stranger, random stranger is actually a good guy and so she sleeps with him.

He fucking kidnapped you less than 24 hours ago, you should be fucking mad at him.

No discussions about condoms or appearance of them in sex scenes.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/08/2021 17:25

When people, trying to get into someone else's computer, guess the password after only a few tries. I can't even remember my own passwords a lot of the time!

That weird thing in romantic comedies where the man takes hold of the woman's chin between his thumb and forefinger and looks in her eyes. What is that? I've never seen anyone do it in real life.

Poorly executed CPR which is unrealistically successful.

Crime dramas where the hero police officer/ detective goes into the house where the baddies are without waiting for backup.

People take their dog for a walk. Never see them pick up the dog poo yet the streets never have dog muck on them.

GetTaeFuck · 15/08/2021 19:29

One from today - when a body arrives at the morgue and their brain is ready for dissection immediately Hmm Nope

BreakfastOfWaffles · 15/08/2021 19:43

Nobody ever says "hang on, just popping to the loo" before leaving the house.
