When did you start your menopause pause

I'm still breastfeeding, so no periods at the moment, but I was thinking as I'm in my early 40's it probably want be long until I start the menopause. My periods had stretched out to longer cycles before I managed to get pregnant with DC2. Is it generally a start in your forties thing ?

45, the very first sign was my first ever irregular period soon followed by hot flushes.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 12/08/2021 14:03

You're still a bit young for it yet

judgejudyrocks · 12/08/2021 14:17

I'm 51 and have no signs of menopause whatsoever.

I know some women who didn't enter menopause until 57/58.

I also know someone who had a baby at 48. We are all very different I guess.

I'm quite apprehensive of what's to come, but I have no qualms in taking HRT if I feel I need it.

  1. Periods stopped and never came back. No other symptoms.
blobby10 · 12/08/2021 14:34

I'm 52 and do have some signs eg memory fuzz, poor sleep, aching joints in the run up to my period, periods definitely lighter. But nothing specific to menopause ! it could just be my unhealthy lifestyle at the moment (way too much stress).

GinJeanie · 12/08/2021 15:12

44/45 started having perimenopausal symptoms. All calmed down now but they can go on for up to 10 years (or more) before menopause and periods stopping. Peri starting in early 40s is quite possible. Good luck Flowers

41/42 for me. Had a year without periods, then had one, and nothing since.

user1471538283 · 12/08/2021 15:53

I was 51! I ended up with 41 years of periods! 41 long long years ...

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 12/08/2021 15:54

I'm 47 and haven't had a period now for at least 2 years, possibly up to 3.

MrsFlinch · 12/08/2021 16:00

I was 38 when I started having peri menopausal symptoms. I’m 46 now and haven’t had a period since March so hopefully am coming through the other side.

Yes my mum kept telling me I was a bit too young (she had hers in her 50s) but clearly not!

Everyone is different your body decides when it time!

RainingChampions · 12/08/2021 17:16

46
Had a random extra period in the middle of my cycle. Then a year or so of normality went by until another random extra period. After that my cycle slowly but surely went to pot.

SunshineCake · 12/08/2021 17:17
  1. Periods started getting less regular. Lots of hot flushes, brain fog, memory deficit. Then had covid. Missed three periods. Had three. Nine months with none. Had one. Now late for next one. No idea what will happen next.
NiceGerbil · 12/08/2021 17:17

Just got hrt !

NinaBallerinaShoes · 12/08/2021 17:18

I think 45-52 is about average. But I started peri when I was 38 and formally diagnosed with premature menopause just before my 40th.

FenceSplinters · 12/08/2021 17:37

I’m 43 and things started changing when I was 41.

cheapskatemum · 12/08/2021 17:39
  1. My periods just stopped. No peri menopause & very few menopause symptoms, just a few hot flushes.
DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 13/08/2021 12:45

I am 51 and have only just started to have symptoms (sleeplessness and no period since April), but that's it so far. My sisters were similar ages and also had few symptoms. Although I don't have many symptoms, I can feel the lack of hormones - in a positive way. No PMT, sore boobs etc.

Galassia · 13/08/2021 12:48

Mid 40s. Never had any problems and am over the moon that my periods stopped.

PaperMonster · 13/08/2021 13:29

I’m 52. Came off the pill a couple of months ago. Had a period five weeks later, but none since. Maybe this is the start of it for me!!

Tangledtresses · 13/08/2021 13:40

I'm 50 and last period I had 2 in a month ... and nothing since 5 months ago
