For me it’s:

Starter - soup/nachos/cheese board etc

Mains - chilli chicken strips/steak/burger/curry / lasagne / roast dinner etc

Dessert - pavlova/choc fudge cake/sticky toffee pudding/cheesecake

You've got a healthy appetite, I'll give you that.

‘The Restaurant’! How mysterious… I don’t think I’ve been there..

Any restaurant, just in general.

If I could choose it would be

No starter, or maybe something like a lentil soup
Vegetable lasagna with chips and garlic bread
Lemon tart with vanilla ice cream

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 12/08/2021 00:02

I rarely have a starter but if I do it's probably prawns/langoustine/calamari. Mains would be pizza/fish n chips/steak. Hardly ever pudding but can't resist tiramisu so if it's on the menu, I'll have it!

Heathcliff27 · 12/08/2021 00:03

Starter - garlic mushrooms or prawn cocktail
Main - stroganoff or pasta
Pudding - creme brulee

NeverTalkToStrangers · 12/08/2021 00:06

I don’t always order a specific thing, but there are certain dog whistle words on a menu which will blind me to all other options. Kimchi, salted caramel and, bizarrely, sesame.

cookiecreampie · 12/08/2021 00:07

It depends on the restaurant surely.

Kanaloa · 12/08/2021 00:10

You know I tried kimchi for the first time recently and was underwhelmed. My DH asked what it tasted like and all I could come up with was ‘crunchy vinegar.’

HealthKick2021 · 12/08/2021 00:12

Chicken wings starter.
Could be burger/chicken or ribs with fries.
Then a sundae of some sort. Although I can't always have all three.

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 12/08/2021 00:21

If it's a perfect restaurant with everything I could possibly want it would be:

Starter: Still warm ciabatta with olive oil and balsamic
Main: Thai yellow curry with jasmine rice
Dessert: Chocolate torte with raspberry coulis
Drink: A very cold glass of Chablis or Sancerre

NotMyCat · 12/08/2021 00:24

Depends what kind!
Dream menu though

Starter - nachos with loads of sour cream or a really good prawn cocktail
Main - a proper burger cooked medium with all the toppings, sweet potato fries and a side of onion rings. Or chicken and mushroom pie with garlic mash and veg
Dessert - apple crumble and custard or syrup sponge

Simple tastes Grin I'm very not fussy though and usually struggle to choose

flingoo · 12/08/2021 00:25

I love a starter. I actually prefer them to a main. So in an ideal dream world where I wasn't lactose intolerant I would have
The cheesy stuffed garlic mushrooms - big flat ones with spinach and pine nuts.
Then for my main I'd order off the starter menu again and have the whole Camembert with crusty bread and caramelised onion chutney and a pate, again with amazing crusty bread.
No dessert, I'll have an ice cold glass of wine instead

I agree. I eat at such a variety of places I’m not sure how to narrow it down. Me and the kids are into Japanese at the moment so most of the answers of steak/burger/mash etc can’t be compared if someone’s looking for recommendations
Susannahmoody · 12/08/2021 00:28

Ooh you're my kinda gal, op. I like this.

I'd have :

Onion bhaji and poppodums 🤤

Rib eye Steak, bug baked spud, coleslaw, nice veg.

Enormous piece of hot choc fudge cake, ice cream.

Red wine.

An espresso to try and be chic I suppose.

Snugglybuggly · 12/08/2021 00:32

Starter: prawns or mushrooms

Main: Steak, risotto or carbanara

Pudding: only if there's profiteroles

Chinese: All the starters, not bothered about main.

Indian/Greek: share everything across the table

FrenchCovidInfo · 12/08/2021 00:38

A cheese board for a starter is a new one on me!

It's too broad to name dishes, but I'd definitely want fish and/or seafood in there, don't like anything heavy or 'roast dinner' type thing, and I don't like chocolate or fruit puddings.

My perfect menu would probably be a vast, sparklingly fresh seafood mountain, with fresh lemons, smoked tabasco and black pepper, with a perfect salad, followed up with black sesame ice cream. And perfect wine, obv Grin.

I also have a lot of time for a really rough, deeply-flavoured, liver-y homemade pate with thin crisp bread.

I'll probably end up agreeing with the half the thread - I love so many different types of food Grin

Seared ahi tuna, oysters, prawns, foie gras
Soup dumplings, hot oil dumplings, crab legs, any kind of fish
Lime pie, lemon tart, fruit tart, chocolate fondant, crème brûlée

Odd the top of my head.

I was on holiday recently and thought I’ll just get a starter as I wasn’t too hungry. It was ahi tuna nachos. The nachos were fried wonton skins, it also had avocado and a spicy miso Mayo, and it was massive! I could only eat half of it

What do you order at the restaurant?
Keladrythesaviour · 12/08/2021 00:45

Appetiser: Bread (warm) and olives and some churned (not hard) butter

Starter: Octopus salad / shellfish dish of some kind

Main: Mushroom parpadelle / hake and clams

Pudding: apple pie and custard

Now I'm hungry Sad

Parentingdilemmas · 12/08/2021 00:45

No starters for me as I get too full. Straight to mains which is usually a chicken dish with a few sides and of course a lovely coke to wash it all down. Rarely have dessert straight after as just no room for it.

Oh that looks amazing! I would definitely try that I'm one of those where someone offers to make you food and I'm just grateful I don't have to cook Grin and they're all "brown bread? White? Butter? Mayo? Do you like tomato?" Me "anything. Literally eat anything" Grin
