Anyone else see lots of people buying bottled waters?

Like those 1 or 2 litre multipack bottles?

I've just been to Tesco express (it's tiny) and two separate customers were complaining that there wasn't any big bottles of water about

I thought that was a coincidence, but thinking about it, I keep seeing lots of people in Asda and Aldi doing this too!

I mentioned it to the guy at the till and he said he'd seen an increase for sure, though he wasn't sure why. Last time he saw it was during the first lockdown and they ended up restricting the amount you could buy at once anyway

I know people like bottles water for various reasons, and I have a friend who's DS won't have anything else due to his autism. But surely this is unusual?

I really think you need to persevere with reusable bottles for your dc if possible

Endlessly refilling the same bottle used by an athlete during exercise, yes. Did they wash the bottle with washing up liquid etc?
Reusing a water bottle for just 2 days would half your chuck out bottles and would be a vanishingly unlikely source of bpa poisoning or severe bacterial growth.
I have done this for years and we are all still alive.

Ah look a counter argument

I don’t need to do anything. People can buy what they want. I buy one pack of 15 and that lasts the week.

namesnamesnamesnames · 12/08/2021 22:58

We have been away in a caravan recently. Took lots of bottled water to save spending a fortune while away. Maybe others are too.

uktrippin · 12/08/2021 23:04

"Yes schools have taps but our school has requested we send them in with bottled water so??? I’m not going to have my child only having one drink in 6 hours in the middle of summer."

😂😂 the message you screenshotted was quite blatantly from the very short spell of hot weather we had. The majority of parents aren't buying their kids water bottles each day to be disposed of immediately.

You're very adamant that this is the only way for you. But you're wrong. Get a grip and buy the kid a decent bottle

namesnamesnamesnames · 12/08/2021 23:09

We don't usually buy bottle water, we usually refill, but on days out there aren't always places to fill bottles.

PumpkinKlNG · 12/08/2021 23:26

We’ve always been told to send children in with water, that’s just a reminder that it is especially important in the hot weather so believe what you like couldn’t give a damn tbh still gonna buy it 😂

uktrippin · 12/08/2021 23:44

They mean in a reusable bottle 🤦🏽‍♀️

Nat6999 · 12/08/2021 23:48

We normally buy 2 or 3 6 x 1.5 litre packs of Evian for ds, but neither Morrison's, Ocado or Waitrose have got any, same for Schweppes Soda & Tonic water. I ended up getting some from Fresh on Amazon.

PumpkinKlNG · 12/08/2021 23:58

Yes I’m sure they do, however I’ve tried reusable ones and they all leak, so I’m choosing not to use them for that reason.

Yeah they mean with a refillable bottle…

None of mine leak, sounds like you just can’t be arsed tbh, I mean if you can’t just say so Grin

Why the Evian when it’s the same as out of the tap?
CityCommuter · 13/08/2021 00:13

@lovesthosebeeps now that you mention it all our local stores have had really low supplies of bottled water for the past few weeks... I even asked customer services in our local Waitrose last week and they said a lot of people are expecting another lockdown within the next month... I have no idea why as heard nothing about it at all!

aworldofourown · 13/08/2021 00:34

I drink bottled water due to hard water area.
We did stock up due to having to go to three supermarkets in order to find bottled water

FrenchCovidInfo · 13/08/2021 00:58

Plastic is definitely to be avoided at all costs, as the environmental cost is catastrophically high.

Tap water isn't always problem free - I believe that more households should test their water to ensure that they're happy to imbibe what's in it - even if it has been deemed fine to drink by our current H&S standards.
What it tastes like is almost a secondary factor: lead, for example, cannot be traced by any of our senses. A stick of charcoal won't cancel out contamination, but it might improve the taste.

House filters/tap filters are best, imo.

Why? Hard water is good for you. There is a growing body of evidence that the higher levels of calcium and magnesium may be good for your heart.
uktrippin · 13/08/2021 01:12

"None of mine leak, sounds like you just can’t be arsed tbh"

Indeed. I've even recommended the ones we use but nah, can't possibly buy those instead Confused. They never ever leak. And one of my kids is the messiest kid I've ever met.

uktrippin · 13/08/2021 01:14

Also @PumpkinKlNG if you're "sure" school mean for you to send a reusable bottle why would you be THAT parent that refuses to? Confused

PumpkinKlNG · 13/08/2021 01:18

I’m not refusing? The school have no issues with me sending in the water bottles I do? They don’t specify that it must be reusable? 😂 it’s like sending a child’s lunch in a plastic bag instead of a lunch box (not that I do that) but they don’t care what it’s sent in and my son says he’s teacher always throws it in the bin anyway! I did say that in the beginning of the thread, also found another thread of someone with the same problem but yeh it’s just me “not bothering” 🤣 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/1855828-Y7-and-water-bottle-leaking-in-bag-0ver-and-over-again?pg=2

uktrippin · 13/08/2021 01:25

"it’s like sending a child’s lunch in a plastic bag instead of a lunch box (not that I do that)"

Yeah. Why don't you do that?!

uktrippin · 13/08/2021 01:27

You've just linked to a thread from a good 8 years ago 😂. Bottles are better now, maybe try a decent brand. Honestly, why wouldn't you?

PumpkinKlNG · 13/08/2021 01:30

Yeh cos 8 years ago was really that long 😂🤦‍♀️😂🤣

It’s an example.....The school don’t give a damn what the water is sent in.

Anyway this is boring and going round in circles I will continue to buy my bottled water. No leaks 😀
