To think this is funny?

We have 4 new people at work called Nick - we were discussing in a meeting how we would know who is who (the 4 Nick's were not there in the meeting).

I said 'Oh, we'll have to think of 'nick' names for them....'.

No-one laughed.

Is it just me or was that quite funny?

HumdrumGuga · 11/08/2021 16:04

Yes, that was funny Grin

SmallPrawnEnergy · 11/08/2021 16:04

Groanworthy at the most, easy to overlook as a pun given the context. Puns are never as funny as people think tbh.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 11/08/2021 16:05

Yup funny! Grin

AppleKatie · 11/08/2021 16:06

I’d have laughed OP

LynetteScavo · 11/08/2021 16:07

I'm proper laughing! Grin

Sparklfairy · 11/08/2021 16:08

Exactly the sort of thing I would say and no one would laugh either Grin

thanksforyourcommentrandomman · 11/08/2021 16:08

That bad it's funny - I'd have laughed Grin

Hellocatshome · 11/08/2021 16:09

Unless you did quotation marks with your fingers when you said nick it probably would have went over my head tbh.

Susannahmoody · 11/08/2021 16:09

(takes bow)

I love groan worthy!

Yup, i laughed!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/08/2021 16:11

That’s something I’d say and would get no laughs but when a fellow manager who happens to have a penis says it, it’s the funniest thing ever…

ClearButtons · 11/08/2021 16:13

Ha yes I would have laughed!

Reminds me of the time someone at work was discussing the police presence at the nearby Kellogg's building....I piped up...."maybe there's a 'cereal' killer"....no one heard it (or if they did, they ignored it!). My best joke wasted!

VladmirsPoutine · 11/08/2021 17:18

I like it but I hate forced laughter in the workplace.

Galassia · 11/08/2021 17:21

I laughed and it’s even funnier that your colleagues were Po faced!

adawong · 11/08/2021 17:24

Get on to the BBC that is funnier than most of the "comedy" that they put out.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 11/08/2021 17:26

Dh dropped a 4 pack of baken beans on his foot last night. I asked if he was annoyed he had bean assaulted.... He didn't even crack a smile.
Which is not unusual..
Miserable git..

moynomore · 11/08/2021 17:36

Definitely funny.

RainforestLizard · 11/08/2021 17:43

I would have laughed. You're very witty OP.

Plumtree391 · 11/08/2021 18:04

It was funny.

When my son was at school, and since, there were loads of 'Daves' and 'Nicks' (David and Nicholas). They even had a pub snooker game once with 'Daves V Nicks'.

They all like their names too which goes to show you cannot go wrong with a classic, ordinary name. Nobody will ever take the mick out of them for it - apart from the 'nickname' pun.

itsgettingwierd · 11/08/2021 18:20

I laughed a lot!

MsIreneWinters · 11/08/2021 18:48

I'd have laughed OP.

PainterInPeril · 12/08/2021 00:57

Grin I thought all of the jokes on this thread were funny. But then my jokes tend to go down like a lead balloon. Not sure why....I'm hilarious! In my opinion!Grin

Kanaloa · 12/08/2021 01:07

I once knew someone named Joe, quite an eccentric character, who was handing out a manifesto he’d written about fracking in a group we both attended.

I jokingly suggested he should call it his ‘manifest-Joe’ and he got really offended and snatched it back off me. He didn’t speak to me for the rest of the group.

I don’t think your joke was too bad, a bit daft but I like cheesy jokes and would probably have chucked.

UrbanRambler · 12/08/2021 01:28

@30degreesandmeltinghere That's genius! 😁 Mind you, it was probably quite painful, so it's understandable that your DH didn't find it very funny at the time.

OP, maybe the joke just went over their heads, because it was the obvious solution that needs to happen. Also, it would be hard to explain this solution without using the term "nickname", so perhaps you weren't the first to say this pun and the joke was already a bit stale among your co workers?

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 12/08/2021 01:48

I’d have laughed, its funny. Clearly your work colleagues do not have our fantastic sense of humour. Grin
