Has anyone else bought something...

...and lost it immediately? Got some nice new shoes for DS today, put the bag down at some point afterwards and just left it. Rather upsetting but I hope some child somewhere is benefitting from them 😭 anyone else as careless as I am?

Not as expensive or useful, but I bought a box of Toffifee for DH one year to pop in his Xmas stocking, remembered scanning it at the self scan at Poundland, then poof!! Scoured the whole house for it and it never turned up, I can only guess that I left it there, though it's not something I would normally do.

Kids shoes would annoy me a whole lot more though!

CirqueDeMorgue · 09/08/2021 22:51

Maybe not as expensive or useful but I'd still have been disappointed to lose toffifee, I love them!

Yes, but it was handed in at the police station, have you tried?

CirqueDeMorgue · 09/08/2021 22:56

No, I tried a few shops nearby but I don't live in the place I lost them and we had to get a train unfortunately. Thankfully, they weren't from Clarks...

I bought 2 pasties and a sausage roll for lunch on Friday and 2 minutes later when we found somewhere to eat them, 1 of the pasties had completely vanished!

PurpleSproutingSomething · 09/08/2021 22:59

Bought a Playmobil set in France, DS was holding the bag and we left it behind on a bus along with his teddy, I was heartbroken about the teddy, we replaced it when we got home, told him he'd had a longer holiday but he never believed us Sad

PurpleSproutingSomething · 09/08/2021 23:00

I once left a full bag of shopping on the bus on my way home from work too, a woman was causing a kerfuffle and I got distracted, walked up to my house and thought to myself I was missing something.

finished31 · 09/08/2021 23:02

I remember when DD was about 2 I got some lovely clothes from Gap for her. The bag had that drawstring and somehow I lost it.

After realising, I went back to the shop and some CF had found it and got the cash refund back.

Gutted

@PurpleSproutingSomething I was quite tearful about the shoes but yes, losing something of sentimental value would have been worse.

I remember losing a designer watch my parents got me for Christmas when I was a teenager, I felt devastated at the time, I hardly got to wear it. I've always been careless, clearly!

That's probably what happened to DS's shoes. :(

Yes had been in town, bought quite a few items including clothes totalling about £50, condensed it all into one bag, went for a coffee. We left and I realised I’d left bag under the table (where it couldn’t be easily seen) Dived straight back (less than two minutes) bag was gone. Asked if it had been handed in, no, Asked if they could check cctv was told it wasn’t working.
I suspect waitress had taken it as our table had been cleared and no other customers where we were sitting. I also stupidly left receipts in the bag. I always put receipts in my purse now!

Bought two lynx gift sets for Ds’s Christmas stockings. Put them in the hiding place in garage with everything else. When it came to wrapping presents. Both gone, never to be seen again!
I know I didn’t dream buying and hiding them. Unless I’ve created a false memory I’m stumped!

And another one Dh found a Peter Rabbit 50p in his change and handed it to me (I keep the picture ones) I put it somewhere safe and then couldn’t find it for about a month.
I found it somewhere obvious that I know I checked before and held it in my hand whilst doing something else. I told myself to put it in my pot with the others or you’ll lose it again. Got distracted. 10 minutes later gone!
I have absolutely no idea what I did with it. I didn’t put it in the pot and have searched high and low for the bloody thing. It’s been about 3 weeks now.

Parentingdilemmas · 10/08/2021 01:23

This has only happened to me at self checkout when I forgot to bag an item and must’ve left it there after paying for it x

Poppyloppyloo · 10/08/2021 01:34

I once bought a metal draining rack with my weekly shop. Went home and searched through all my bags but it wasn’t there. I think it was camouflaged into the metal trolley and I must have left it there 😂

I used to work in a mega busy cafe in a shopping centre. People left full clothes shopping bags ALL the time especially in the run up to Christmas, they would tuck the bags under the table while they had a well deserved cuppa and just get up and go without then. Our staff were trained to swoop on a table as soon as possible after someone left and so they safely gathered up the bags often handbags and mobile phones as well. It was part of my job to go through the bags to see if we could find a way to get in touch with the person and reunite them with their stuff, I got to be quite the detective. We would keep them locked up for a week then if not claimed take them to the police lost property office, we usually had a black bag full every week. If they were unclaimed from there we would ultimately get the stuff back. Marks and Spencer stuff was the best as they had ( at that time) virtually no time limit on returning brand new purchases. We could return the items and the money would go towards the staff Christmas party, anything that couldn’t be returned or used in someway was donated to charity. Sometimes people would rush back in a panic as they remembered they had left bags, it was lovely to be able to reunite them with their bags. They would often return with boxes of chocolates or biscuits by way of thanks for the staff room. Once we had a handbag with a LOT of money left behind, the lady was distraught as she rushed back for it, she insisted on offering a cash reward which again went towards the staff Christmas party ( we had a lot of staff and always had an epic Christmas party) and we got a nice write up in the local paper.

I did this with the legs from an IKEA antilop high chair. Got home, realised they were missing and must have left them in the trolly, disguised.

Had to trek all the way back (45 min drive) and found their bloody one way system just for a set of legs Sad

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 10/08/2021 02:56

Yes, bought DD a torch from Decathlon for about £15. Got home, no sign of it - must have left it in the trolley!

I did that; luckily the bus only went a little way along before it turned to come back, so I waited at the stop on the other side of the road and jumped on to collect it. The driver hadn't even noticed it, and was very surprised.
FluffyPJs · 10/08/2021 19:37

@finished31 I know this is too late for you now, but I never leave my receipts in the bag, I put them in my handbag. That stops anyone being able to return them so easily.

Nurseynoodles · 10/08/2021 19:40

I brought an outfit from topshop when I was at uni and I went to buy a birthday card for my friend (who’s birthday it was) left my bag on the floor at the far end of the aisle, wandered up and down a few times, reading the cards and by the time I’d picked one my bag had gone. I felt like such an idiot, I cried all the way home!

FlorallyBankrupt · 10/08/2021 19:44

Went to Specsavers in my lunch hour - 2 pairs of rather complex varifocals, £450.

Came back to work, finished my day, stuffed Specsavers bag into my handbag and went home - to find only one pair of glasses. The second pair had completely disappeared.

WorraLiberty · 10/08/2021 19:48

OP, have you tried posting in your local FB group?

They can be great for reuniting people with lost items

mnahmnah · 10/08/2021 19:50

My mum still talks now about the time she bought me and my brother new school shoes at Clark’s, then promptly left both pairs somewhere. She retraced her steps, but no sign, so had to go and buy both pairs again! This was 80s recession time, dad out of work, so they could hardly afford it

30degreesandmeltinghere · 10/08/2021 19:55

Once spent £500 Xmas shopping in Newcastle . Got home and it wasn't in the car..(other bags were but some missing)
Dd had left all the bags in the last shop we went to...
Shock
Rang the shop next day (Sunday) and a cleaner had found it.
Went back that day to collect it.
Xmas 2014 so thank you so much if it was you!!

OakPine · 10/08/2021 20:03

Not lost as such but...

I once bought new shoes for my primary age daughter for school.

They were the exact same style as the old ones, just a size bigger.

I threw the new ones in the bin and put the old ones back in the wardrobe.
