A periwinkle blue, worn by Cinderella in the Ladybird book of my childhood.

I've never forgotten it, it's somewhere in my DNA now I think.

There's a book I get flashes of from my childhood, but can't quite get hold of it in my mind. It involved a teddy/pyjama case or something that was a kind of purple colour and I don't know what it was about that colour (there must have been pictures) but I find it incredibly comforting and keep trying - and failing - to remember what the book was 🤔

I've also got a rose in my garden that is an incredibly pale lavender/grey/blue colour and it's absolutely stunning!

Perhaps you have synaesthesia? I do too (grapheme colour synaesthesia) and my reactions to colour are quite extreme. None make me feel sick, but I have very strong colour associations. I also dislike that Yves Klein blue, although it is striking

Interesting-I’ll have a google. Thinking about it, purple makes me feel really uncomfortable and like I need to look away. I can’t explain it but that Yves Klein blue has a similar effect.

That is really interesting. I love blue, but there is something in that Yves Klein blue which is almost disturbing.

I don't think I would want to touch it, the colour makes me think that is would be a strange texture

I think my most vivid memory is opening a set of felt tip pens in year 1, so about 5/6 years old, and I discovered that extraordinary pink that hides inside a dull burgundy plastic.

Every other colour was pretty much a shade of a primary colour, and this was from another galaxy...

All pen sets seem to have that in those days, and I've never forgotten it. It the present day, a certain colour of London Blue Topaz. No green at all in it, almost grey blue. A bit like this.

The Atlas Mountains. The rich chocolatey terracotta of the ground and the lush emerald green plants growing from it.

ThatSunnyCorner · 08/08/2021 11:32

This sea. It's making me tingle looking at it again.

Funnily enough although I love blue and wear it a lot, I absolutely hate the very cold cobalt and periwinkle shades a lot of people talked about upthread. I love the aqua of the sea, though. But my favourite colour to look at is the slightly pinky, golden glow of a warm white light. My alarm clock has a sunrise feature that starts as a quite deep orange and gradually gets lighter and brighter. Really beautiful, optimistic colours. I also love very light, clean shades of pistachio. Not colours I could ever wear, but looking at them makes me feel very content.

NotMeNoNo · 08/08/2021 15:21

Mines blue too, either a bluebell/lobelia colour, or that really rich sky blue you sometimes get at twilight just before dark.

RudeAF · 08/08/2021 15:28

I see what people mean about unsettling blues 😂 also love forest greens, and that funny hazy purple the sky sometimes goes on a sunny night. I just to get a train to work that pulled in to Charing Cross at 7am. When it paused on the bridge over the Thames to queue to pull in to the station on cold days in winter it was the perfect “blue hour” I actually hate winter but love to look back on that feeling of being bathed in clear blue light.

I love cornflower blue.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 08/08/2021 17:47

I love the red on an acer tree. There’s something so energising about it!

Graymare · 08/08/2021 18:06

The most incredible dark green lake, just about the colour of beech leaves in July, that I saw in France a good 40 years ago now.
The very deep, rich blue sky that you get in spring unlike the rather faded sky of summer.

LoveFall · 08/08/2021 19:33

I am learning watercolour painting and blues are the colours I find I want to use most.

CorianderBee · 08/08/2021 20:28

The Orange of the horizon in Tintagel, Cornwall. It was pink and apricot and I was floating in the sea in my wetsuit. I've never felt more free.

CorianderBee · 08/08/2021 20:41

I've Already told my partner that we're moving to tintagel when we retire (currently 26 😂) because I NEED to be there. Every moment I'm not in that cove I feel sadness.

@AnyFucker

The pink my grand daughter turned as I watched her being born
Congratulations Grandma. Though truth be told I’d have never thought you were a granny. Is it your first grandchild and how old is she if it’s ok to ask.
AnyFucker · 08/08/2021 21:38

Yes, first grandchild and she is a few months old now.

Elizabeth Taylor's eyes.

The purple foil that Cadburys chocolate used to be wrapped in back in the 80's.
Mesmerising

Strokethefurrywall · 08/08/2021 23:18

I remember that Cinderella ladybird book and I adored that colour!
Blue has always been my favorite, I’ve been mesmerized by Chris Marleys butterfly work for years! One of the pieces was on sale at a gallery here and I stood staring at it for about 45 minutes!

I also used to be obsessed with the color of Annie’s blue Mary Janes in the 1982 movie. Beautiful baby blue, I wished for a pair every birthday!

Eaumyword · 08/08/2021 23:23

Beautiful butterfly picture, the colours and symmetry really appeal.

Yes, the purple was stunning!
TinaYouFatLard · 09/08/2021 02:55

The deep blue of the Pacific on a recent cruise. I don’t think it could ever be replicated.

LoveFall · 09/08/2021 02:58

I love the subtle, dusky and velvety purple-brown of this wildflower. It is a Mountain Ladyslipper. My sister took this photo in mid-July near Shuswap Lake in the southern interior of BC. Also check out the brightly coloured area just showing on the top flower, clearly to lure pollinators.

I painted this for her birthday card and it took some mixing to get that flower colour right.

Different, but beautiful.

The most mesmerising colour I’ve ever seen was the bright purple Floridian sky just as hurricane Matthew hit in 2016, thankfully with much less impact than expected!

I’m used to stunning pinks and oranges at sunset here in Scotland but this was on a different scale completely.
