A periwinkle blue, worn by Cinderella in the Ladybird book of my childhood.

I've never forgotten it, it's somewhere in my DNA now I think.

Oo! And the teal that the wives wear in Handmaids Tale. My jaw literally dropped when I saw it for the first time.

thesunwillout · 08/08/2021 00:38

Oh wow op thankyou, I remember that magical book too.

I also used to get so excited to see the white dress at the end of the story.

The blue in the Yves St Laurent garden in Marrakesh are amazing

JaneJeffer · 08/08/2021 01:10

@catfunk

The ultramarine blue walls in the majorelle gardens in Marrakesh. And the terracotta against it. Beautiful.
I agree! I spent hours there!

--The pale blue waters off the island of Iona
--the bright orange, reds, and yellows of oaks, maples, birches, etc. in New England in October against a bright blue sky and an old white Congregationalist church with a tall spire.
--Lake Louise in Banff
--the red sandstone also against a blue sky in the Canyon de Chelly
--sunlight passing through flower petals of any color

I love this thread, and the discussions about blue. I love all shades of blue too and would love to read about why so many of us are drawn to it.

Downunderduchess · 08/08/2021 02:15

I love how vibrant nature can be, I took a photo of this grasshopper in my backyard & love the colour. Also in lust for the pretty amethyst colour of this ring.

Always hard to tell from a photo but that could be a Rose de France amethyst, the colour is very subtle.

There is a certain kind of pink in Italian 14th century paintings that I love. It's a sort of dusky pink, used in quite a few different pictures.

@TerribleCustomerCervix

The colour of DD’s bedroom- a blue called Barking Creek by Valspar in her cosy south facing room.

Makes me think of toddler kisses and the smell of fabric softener from her sheets 🥺

I grew up near Barking Creek so had to Google why there was a paint colour named after it. It's the colour of the sky in the picture on Wikipedia 😂
winniesanderson · 08/08/2021 07:15

This dress. I love how it shimmers. Also lots of the colours in a Hungry Caterpillar spin off book. Really deep navy's, purples and teals.

The golden colour of a summer evening just before the sun sets, where it turns everything slightly golden. The smell that goes with it, warm grass and the sound of crickets.

grafittiartist · 08/08/2021 08:21

Thank you for the flower fairy pictures- I used to love those!!

Pinkmagic1 · 08/08/2021 08:30

A cadbury purple crayon I had when I was little. I remember thinking what a beautiful colour it was and have liked the colour ever since.
Also the colour of the imperial leather soap box. Bot sure if it's still the same, but it used to be white with the most beautiful, pearly pink shimmer.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 08/08/2021 09:24

Perfectly timed when the purple bluebell carpet clash against the almost transparent lime green small leaves of the beech trees high above with slanted spring pale sun light dappling through. Magical. Especially when also hit with the perfume of the bluebells.

Bluebells are often paired with euphorbia for that same effect.

The blue of the Mediterranean Sea near Malta, it was glorious.

I can't attach the photo unfortunately.

Reloxa · 08/08/2021 10:22

I'm a painter - viridian green mixed with a bit of white. It's almost neon in effect, I almost always end up sneaking it into a painting because I love how it looks, all minty and fresh.

cptartapp · 08/08/2021 10:26

Some fish in the Maldives. People were feeding them off the end of a jetty, they were about a foot long. Blues, reds, greens, yellows. All on each fish.
I remember wondering why did nature create them like that. Amazing.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 08/08/2021 10:51

Apparently Crayola did some research and found that blue crayons are the most used - they've done the same research a few times and it said the same thing. So the blue preference must start very young and / or the usage is in large part down to colouring in the sky in so many pictures.

Crunchymum · 08/08/2021 10:56

Midnight blue of the night sky in summer.

Crunchymum · 08/08/2021 10:59

Also the colours of the Grand Canyon at sunset. Pinks and oranges set against such stark grey. It was a decade ago and my pictures didn't do it justice.

doesanyonewantthis · 08/08/2021 11:02

It makes total sense that we like blue the most. It's a reassuring colour. Blue skies so lots of light, no storms, safe to travel; reflective rivers so lots of water to drink etc.

I so remember this picture As child I thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world.

When I was an adult and saw it again, I was really disappointed!

The pink my grand daughter turned as I watched her being born
