A periwinkle blue, worn by Cinderella in the Ladybird book of my childhood.

I've never forgotten it, it's somewhere in my DNA now I think.

@Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo

Perhaps you have synaesthesia? I do too (grapheme colour synaesthesia) and my reactions to colour are quite extreme. None make me feel sick, but I have very strong colour associations. I also dislike that Yves Klein blue, although it is striking

Interesting-I’ll have a google. Thinking about it, purple makes me feel really uncomfortable and like I need to look away. I can’t explain it but that Yves Klein blue has a similar effect.

Purple absolutely does this to me too, especially bright purple. A real visceral reaction. Pastels make me feel really comforted and can give me goosebumps, I can taste them. I also have misophonia so think I have a tendency to feel overwhelmed on a sensory level in general.

I love turquoise. But, aren't we lucky to see such wonderful colours?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 07/08/2021 23:40

The really sharp light turquoise you get in glaciated lakes. This is Banff Canada, but I've also seen it in Switzerland

The ocean in Hanauma Bay, Oahu, Hawaii, from the top of the hill you must walk down to get to the beach.

I also recently came across these Night Sky Petunias somewhere and thought they were just amazing

I associate purple with coffins for some reason

I find it a depressing colour and grey (was not a fan of the recent grey fashion)

Interesting most of us have picked shades of blue

Walking home from school on the particular evenings that the sky over the forest had thick inky dark clouds but the sun was shining so strongly on the forest trees. So the brilliant brilliant green against the inky moody sky.

1940s · 07/08/2021 23:44

Also jacaranda trees against a murky stormy sky

This gave me chills, so gorgeous.

I love greens, and turquoise’s, they make me feel so serene, it’s a real physical reaction, right in my gut. Kelly Green is my favourite, a proper leafy Irish green. I also love the olive green of my DDs eyes.

Embarrassingly - the white sequins tinged with light green in the Hamleys Christmas department waiting for Santa when I was about 6. I still secretly want walls decorated with those sequins.

In slightly more sophisticated memories - the specific neon but serene glow of phosphorescence in a midnight sea.

Sunset with hues of pinks & purples & clouds of mauve over a tropical coast

Sunrise amber gold over Angkor watt temples - somehow a golden grey I can’t define

The streaks of white through green when my toddler ran through frosty grass on the common

The lightest blush on a Provençal rose against a promising dusk with vineyards stretching the horizon from sage to olive to pistachio

A hue between pink and white I’ve never seen again, on a particular beach in south east Asia, almost the interior rim of a conch shell but more.. something

But mostly those white green sequins. They were fucking awesome.

Lalliella · 08/08/2021 00:01

Cadbury purple. The suit Denise Lewis wore tonight was gorgeous.

HarrietSchulenberg · 08/08/2021 00:04

The turquoise blue of a Hebridean sea.

The deep red of a tiny stone, the ruby stone, embedded in concrete outside my childhood home's back door.

The bright emerald of grass when the sun shines through an otherwise stormy, grey sky.

I liked the Crayola Periwinkle crayon too, and the Lady it'd Cinderella dress. I also liked the dark blue of the night sky in The Lonely Donkey.

My turquoise hula hoop back in the 1970s Smile

The blue background in The Light of the World by Holman Hunt but I think you have to see the original in St Paul''s. I believe it's lapis lazuli. I''ve never found a reproduction that matches up.

PompomDahlia · 08/08/2021 00:10

Tough one - the aqua sea in the Maldives is stunning.

I also adore seeing bougainvillea on holiday and the contrast of bright pink flowers against a perfectly blue sky

Really interesting so many of us are drawn to blues - most on the thread I think! Off to go down a rabbit hole of psychology and colour now...
I read in a book about colour that it is the world's favourite colour, most popular globally etc.
Ohpulltheotherone · 08/08/2021 00:19

The golden blonde mixed with almost white blonde curls on the head of a young baby I vividly dreamt of when I was desperately sad believing it’d never have my own.

catfunk · 08/08/2021 00:24

The ultramarine blue walls in the majorelle gardens in Marrakesh. And the terracotta against it. Beautiful.

Guineapigbridge · 08/08/2021 00:27

Sunset in Broome, Australia

Guineapigbridge · 08/08/2021 00:28

And the colour of the lagoon in Aitutaki

Formaldeheidi · 08/08/2021 00:34

Yes! The blue on the wrappers of kinder eggs (the tiny rectangle with tiny writing in) and Cadbury’s purple as it used to be.

I also have something like synthesia. The tube map tastes of different things to me. Or at least some of the lines do. Days of the week and months have colours.

Sssloou · 08/08/2021 00:34

Bluebells in a beech wood.

Perfectly timed when the purple bluebell carpet clash against the almost transparent lime green small leaves of the beech trees high above with slanted spring pale sun light dappling through. Magical. Especially when also hit with the perfume of the bluebells.
