I thought you weren't going to be arguing further for fear of deletion?

Who’s arguing? And I don’t fear deletion. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think if I was a teenager again I would have been all over Harry Styles, I was always fond of a floppy haired pretty boy.
I wonder if he knits...

whatistheworld · 07/08/2021 23:12

he is amazing, and the fact he loves knitting is a bonus! what a role model he is for everyone, sporty, crafty and LGBTQ.
He seems to be genuinely lovely too

AngryWhompingWillow · 07/08/2021 23:17

Harry Styles IS bloody gorgeous. Grin

Right up there with Jack Grealish! Smile

@SeaWitchly

I think his knitting is great but - It's interesting how a young man gets such adoration for a craft which otherwise is derided as something 'old women do'.
This perception is way behind the times. Nowadays both knitting and crochet are definitely cool.

@Mrstwiddle

If some posters are saying how lovely he is, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to point out that actually, he’s done something which many people would find immoral.
Its not unreasonable to chat about this at all but the thread police are on duty BrewBiscuit

Please check the approved list of topics you can "chat"/ "derail" about before posting. Top tip: any insinuation of immoral behaviour by Tom and his cuddly knitting is frowned upon. Remember we women must be kind, always. Especially to men who knit.

ancientgran · 07/08/2021 23:33

I'm impressed with anyone who can knit. I can't even cast on. I still remember the humiliation of my knitted pencil case when I was 7. The teacher said it was a disgrace. It was, she wasn't lying, but she hated me and did everything to make me feel bad. She adored my sister which just seemed to make it worse. She was a year older than me so I always followed her into a class and invariably came off worse.

FunTimes2020 · 07/08/2021 23:35

@HopeClearwater

Because men aren't generally knitters

And the minute a man is good at a traditionally female pursuit, a large number of women suddenly treat that man like a bloody genius ... it’s so boring.

So are you Hmm

A knitted pencil case? That sounds quite impractical. Sad And that was very unsupportive of your teacher. Shock

I can still knit after being taught at primary but I just don't as I find it too frustrating and can never get the tension right.

SarahAndQuack · 07/08/2021 23:40

@MissyB1

It’s not miserable to ask why the knitting was such a big deal? Love him for his achievements etc yes but knitting??? He’s not exactly the first person to ever do it! I didn’t own a single jumper or cardigan as a child that wasn’t knitted by my mum.
Um ... I can't knit. I'm shit at it. My partner is really good. I don't give a flying fuck about diving so knitting is much more interesting to me.

Does that help?

Or, sorry, are we only allowed to like people for the sport they do, and not for creative stuff? Gee, with attitudes like this, I can't imagine why textile work is still so shittily paid around the world.

I don’t agree with creating babies with the intention of taking them away from the mum that has carried them. I don’t agree with using women in this way.
If you do, then we disagree.

It was the woman's choice. He didn't force her to do anything. Maybe respect the woman's autonomy.

Me too. I can't knit. I did try when I was much younger, but was just so crap at it!
