Apologies for the DM link, but how does an act this cruel and wicked only get someone 9 years? Has the world gone mad?

RIP little Asiah Kudi Flowers her suffering must have been unbearable.

I agree. This needs a death sentence !!

like she put upon a poor innocent child who suffered and cried alone for all that time !! No love or care, just breaks my heart this

GingerBreadTeddy · 06/08/2021 14:49

Really really upsetting.

Far too many horrific stories involving young children in the news right now.

The judge said something about she didn’t intend to kill her, but in my opinion it’s pretty obvious leaving a baby alone for 6 days isn’t going to have a good outcome. I do wish media reporting of these cases was better, so people can better understand what happened & the reason for the charge / sentencing.
Like with the Kaylee-Jayde case there’s a lot of confusion about why it was manslaughter not murder and I think those reporting these cases should explain things better.

My heart breaks for all these poor poor children Flowers

Not excusing what she did, obviously, but there must be some background to her behaviour. Learning difficulties? Abusive childhood? It's hard to comprehend how anyone could make the decisions she made.

That's what I think too. She was living in supported living. Must be more too it. Why did no friends or BF ask about the baby?
Galassia · 06/08/2021 15:07

I’ll be banned if I wrote what I really think.

This is not justice.

Let’s not forget that after her daughter died she was trying to sign up to be a model without a care in the world.

This is a selfish individual who put her own needs, wants and desires before that if her child.

ToomuchHeat · 06/08/2021 15:11

So tragic if she didn't want her daughter so many others could have given her a life.

Galassia · 06/08/2021 15:13

She wouldn’t have been given a home of her own or benefit money if she gave up the daughter.

....manslaughter not murder and I think those reporting these cases should explain things better.

Murder needs Intent to kill.
Manslaughter is a lesser charge, the killer didn't intend to kill. They did something negligent or sometime violent that resulted in someone else dying.

KittenKong · 06/08/2021 15:16

To ‘not understand’ that not giving a child food and water for 6 days will will kill the child (let alone leaving the poor mite alone)? How was she allowed to keep the child?

Starjammer · 06/08/2021 15:16

This is so upsetting to read. My DD is a similar age and I just can't fathom it. Absolutely horrific.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 06/08/2021 15:18

She was in supported living but what sort of support was being given if she was able to leave the little one for six days? Did no one hear anything from the flat? Surely the organisation running the home needs to answer for their failings in not ensuring the child was cared for.

pinkgin85 · 06/08/2021 15:24

I have an almost 20 month old and I just can't read about this case, breaks my heart. Poor baby

Galassia · 06/08/2021 15:24

If she just went out after having some kind of breakdown and pushed the child’s welfare out of her mind I could understand the manslaughter charge.

But she planned to go out, calculated in leaving her alone and covered up her going out by lying to her friends and family about the child being cared for.

She had previous form for going out so socialise and had previously left the child alone for two days.

She knew exactly what she was doing.

MarianneUnfaithful · 06/08/2021 15:30

Horrific.

But.

The mother was taken into care at 14 and while in care was subject to ‘child sex exploitation’ and became pregnant.
Later she was removed from her own mother’s home and put in supported accommodation, aged 16, with a baby.
The baby was on the child protection register from birth but had no social worker assigned by the time she died at 20 months.
Though the accommodation had a reception worker and cctv no one noticed (or did anything if they did) that teenage Kudi was disappearing for 2 days at a time without her baby.

That baby’s death was caused by her mother, but she was let down by the authorities that should have protected her.

ufucoffee · 06/08/2021 15:32

She did all this intentionally. She knew a baby would die being left that long. I hope she gets the welcome she deserves in prison and never knows a moments peace for the rest of her life.

Yes, I’m confused how this was known and yet she was still allowed to keep the child with no social worker assigned to her. I’m also confused as to how, if the supported living is staffed in the reception area, 24 hours a day, they didn’t notice she’d left - without the child - and not returned for six days.

Humpthree · 06/08/2021 15:44

BBC news app says

"This follows a history of multiple earlier occasions of abandonment and neglect."

Sad
DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 06/08/2021 15:46

Also, if she’s been sentenced to 9 years, presumably she may well serve only half that.

TonkinLenkicks · 06/08/2021 15:48

Does their have to be a reason why she left her? Does she have to have learning difficulties, her own issues, mental heath, care leaver etc. Can she not just be fucking evil?

KittenKong · 06/08/2021 15:48

So either none of her ‘friends’ asked where the baby was, or she lied and said she was being taken care of.

Tiis · 06/08/2021 15:49

Tragic all around.

Reading the mother's background it's very sad. She needs jail time for what she did, but I think she also needs help which I hope she gets.

juicey09 · 06/08/2021 15:51

The news stories in this past week relating to the death of several children has been heartbreaking.
I don't understand how she only got 9 years. I don't want to imagine the suffering she experienced. I read she was home for 2 hours before she called 999 and was seen putting rubbish in the bins outside in that time. She told the paramedics her daughter had been ill all day and she'd given her calpol.
I can't imagine what Asiah went through alone

Anniissa · 06/08/2021 15:57

It is a terrible thing. While it doesn’t excuse her, the mother had a history of being sexually abused as a child and from the description of the partying across the country was likely still being sexually exploited and possibly coerced when she left the baby. It’s deeply tragic all round and both baby and mother were failed by the authorities who should have been protecting them.

Galassia · 06/08/2021 15:59

Exactly this.
