Any recommendations for a lovely spa hotel within 1.5 hours from NW London pls? I've looked at a few in Herts but they have very mixed reviews.

Pennyhill Park gets great reviews.

bendmeoverbackwards · 06/08/2021 12:38

Oooh that looks lovely, probably beyond my budget unfortunately. Any other suggestions for somewhere nice but a bit cheaper?

Some of the ones I've looked at look a bit tired/old fashioned/chintzy. Would prefer a bit more modern if possible!

Lifehouse is lovely.

Egghead68 · 06/08/2021 15:19

You can often get good deals at Champneys. It’s quite a nice place but the evening meals are not great.

bendmeoverbackwards · 06/08/2021 15:34

Have you stayed there @tintodeverano2?

Champneys has really gone downhill I would avoid.
Sopwell house in St Albans is lovely.

Egghead68 · 06/08/2021 16:34

Yes - just looked at some recent reviews for Champneys and I take back my recommendation!

ChocolateRiver · 06/08/2021 16:39

Might be a little bit too far away but Carey’s Manor in the New Forest is fabulous. The spa is much better than the one at Chewton Glen.

TanyaLoves · 06/08/2021 17:14

Champneys is the best but Sopwell house and Whittlebury hall have great spas and are lovely hotels

FizzyPink · 06/08/2021 17:16

Champneys is terrible nowadays. Another vote for Lifehouse Spa, there’s always deals around as well for them

gogohm · 06/08/2021 17:20

Been to ragdale hall in Leicestershire, was nice (in 2018) Leicester station is just over an hour from London. It's 30 mins from there cabs are cheap if prebook Ed

HuntingoftheSnark · 06/08/2021 17:28

Luton Hoo?

Twinkie01 · 06/08/2021 17:35

Pennyhill is crap. Treatment rooms are dreadful and we had some sort of rodent scratching around in the attic space above our room all night and the outside pool area was like a stag party.

Sopwell house was filthy and understaffed.

Alexander House is really nice as is The Grove.

BeetleyCarapace · 06/08/2021 17:37

Ellenborough Park outside Cheltenham is very nice, I've been a couple of times.

Lineeyes1986 · 06/08/2021 17:37

Lifehouse is really nice and they do quite good deals. Had a 2 day break there a few weeks ago

SapphosRock · 06/08/2021 17:54

Ashdown Park in Sussex would probably be 1.5 hours drive. Definitely worth the journey.

Where’s the best place to look for a deal for Lifehouse?

@bendmeoverbackwards

Have you stayed there *@tintodeverano2*?
Yes a couple of times, but not for a few years now! I didn't eat there, but when my mum went she said the food was lovely.
tintodeverano2 · 07/08/2021 19:43

They often have deals on Facebook or on their own website

Bells3032 · 07/08/2021 19:47

Luton hoo, sopwell house or Hanbury Manor are all less than 45 mins away and all Gorgeous

NandoLorris · 07/08/2021 20:14

Thought I'd suggest Gainsborough Spa in Bath as no one else has yet. Only 1.5 hours on the train. I'm desperate to go there but its out of my price range.

Throughabushbackwards · 07/08/2021 20:17

The Grove in Hertfordshire is really amazing.
