Which is better? I haven't been to either.

TIA

Five Guys has wacky drinks and excellent burgers but less variety of food choice, if any of them don't like burgers Shock or are veggie or vegan.

ChickensForTheHound · 05/08/2021 16:39

If you're planning on taking out a second mortgage you should get right over to Five Guys.

LubaLuca · 05/08/2021 16:42

Five Guys is probably more appealing to children. It's abysmal for vegetarians though, so check none of them is - unflavoured mushrooms and peppers in a bun anyone? The chips are good though, and the burgers too by all accounts.

theshadeofgreen · 05/08/2021 16:43

Nando's could be more communal, they could share a few platters (one does me and DH and my youngest DS) but that's assuming they all like chicken.
Otherwise they may go for individual meals which are all plated up. A lot of Nando's is fairly spicy too, you may get them thinking they want spicy then deciding they can't eat it (speaking from experience of taking sobody else's kid...Hmm)

5 guys is a more relaxed style, burgers in wrappers and chips in a bag but they really do only do burgers or a hot dog and fries.

mum2jakie · 05/08/2021 16:46

Nandos probably better for that age group

DonGray · 05/08/2021 16:46

Five guys no good for peanut allergy

mum2jakie · 05/08/2021 16:46

Ironically nandos have a better vegan/veggie range than Five Guys too

lurker101 · 05/08/2021 16:47

Five Guys fries are cooked in Peanut oil and there are usually boxes of peanuts sitting out for you to help yourself (not seen them post-Covid tight enough), but worth considering in case there are any peanut allergies

FadoFado · 05/08/2021 16:48

I feel like that age group are more into the Nando's experience.

Iknowtheanswer · 05/08/2021 16:49

Nandos is more of a restaurant experience. You get plates and glasses, and cutlery.

I actually love Five Guys, but have always seen it as an expensive fast food outlet. Food comes in paper bags etc.

Blamelesscars · 05/08/2021 16:49

Neither!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/08/2021 16:49

Nandos. I like both but I think Nandos is better for a group like that. The customisation options in Five Guys would be a pain, I think.

BeyondMyWits · 05/08/2021 16:52

Nandos... five guys is too blooming expensive for what it is, has a rubbish veggie selection and can take forever to get served.

DinosaurDiana · 05/08/2021 16:57

Five Guys has the best tasting burgers, and I love their chips.
But I believe they’re fried in peanut oil ? So that could be a problem.
But it is expensive.

HotDogg · 05/08/2021 16:57

Thanks all for the information. It's very helpful.

There are no dietary requirements or allergies so that's one less worry. They're probably more burger fans but don't want to go to McDonalds. I'll check out the menu for Nando's.

You’ll need to remortgage your house for Five Guys. I took DD2 (just the two of us) a couple of months ago. We just had burgers, fries and milkshakes and it was near enough forty quid! 😮😮😮

Doyoumind · 05/08/2021 17:01

Agree with the comment about a second mortgage. I'm a Five Guys fan and not really Nandos. My DC would go for Five Guys every time. They aren't really laid out to accommodate a big group though.

HotDogg · 05/08/2021 17:05

Is Nandos expensive? I don't mind paying out a good amount but I'm wondering if all the sides they have available will soon add up.

I'm a veggie and I would unveggie for a day for a five guys. Absolutely ridiculous burgers. Hotdogs are great too. You get absolutely hundreds of fries too. If it's a treat then I'd definitely say go there!

dannydyerismydad · 05/08/2021 17:08

If there's a 7 Bone near you it's 100 times better than 5 Guys.

They also do amazing gin cocktails (which you'll almost certainly need to take the edge off the row created by 12 year old boys).

Iknowtheanswer · 05/08/2021 17:11

Neither are cheap..

Iknowtheanswer · 05/08/2021 17:12

The chips in Five Guys are the best though. I'd murder a Five Guys right now.

Rizzoli123 · 05/08/2021 17:14

I don't like nandos there I said it. I don't like spicy food and for me even the plain was spicy. I would choose 5 guys but they are expensive. I so found nandos quite loud but again that's just me

BluebirdHill · 05/08/2021 17:16

They're both fairly expensive unless you order carefully - which is too much to expect of 12 yos - but the food is good. I enjoy both as does my DS of this age. Both have the refillable fizzy drinks options. You can probably cost it up if you look at online menus. I reckon it would end up costing a bit either way, but they'll have a good time.

Kerplunkk · 05/08/2021 17:19

Nando’s meals are about £15 incl 2 sides and a drink (if they have individual meals)
My 13 year old can’t go any hotter than medium so that might be worth baring in mind if any of the boys are new to Nando’s
