How long does it take you to tidy up after dinner?

Just that really.

I don't have a dishwasher and it takes me about 30 minutes to wash up, tidy/clean the kitchen and clean the table (including toddler DD's highchair). Would I save loads of time with a dishwasher? How long does it take you to tidy up?

Multiple pans, oily baking trays
that all goes in the dishwasher!

If I need to run 2 loads, I do, sometimes 3 a day if it's full after lunch. It's still more economical than wash by hand anyway.

Fill dishwasher, put on, pile the rest, clean worktops, come back after 1 hour to empty dishwasher, fill with the rest, done.

When our dishwasher broke a few years ago it took us months to save up for a replacement as it was just after Christmas. We hadn't really appreciated how much time we'd saved having one until it was gone. 2 full dishwasher loads a day to hand wash was a lot of time. When the new one arrived it was the best day ever.

We're doing pizza tonight so hopefully a quicker tidy up!

We are a family of 5 adults and one secondary age DC, all at home atm due to WFH, summer holidays so lots of crockery/glasses/cutlery being used.

I actually time myself (beat the clock motivation kind of thing Grin) when I clean up after dinner and it never takes more than 5 mins including hob and table being wiped down.

I like a clean kitchen before I cook, with the dishwasher empty, so I can load it as I go. It’s generally only one or two big pots that can’t fit in the dishwasher that need washing up, everyone scrapes plates and puts them in dishwasher themselves.

I will never forget the years I didn’t have one and appreciate it all the more!

I’d say 5 minutes. Put on dishwasher, plates loaded by the person who used it. Wipe down worktops and table, put away anything that doesn’t belong out and hoover floor with stick hoover.

@LysistrataVickers

5-10 minutes depending on if the dishwasher has been emptied from the previous wash!
I always empty it if needed before cooking.
