How long were you in hospital if you were induced?

Biancadelrioisback · 04/08/2021 14:26

My DHs sister (SIL) has been in hospital now for 3 days. Went in first thing on Monday morning to be induced at 40 weeks and still no sign of baby so far.
No one is worried but I had no idea being induced could take so long! DS was a spontaneous birth and came early so he was out within a couple of hours.
I'm just curious how long most women go from being induced to having their baby?

Went in on Wednesday morning, baby born on Thursday at 6am. Went home at 8pm.

A very long week

EvilHerbivore · 04/08/2021 14:30

In the hospital for 9am, induced at 10am, baby born 1.30am and home lunchtime so about 27 hours?

Went in on Sunday morning. Baby born on Wednesday morning. Was ‘allowed’ to leave on the next Sunday afternoon. Not a fun week!

Second baby so maybe different as it was balloon induction followed my manual waters breaking and therefore quite quick.

Went in 10am Tuesday, balloon catheter inserted at lunchtime. No space on delivery or MLBU that evening so waters were not broken till the next lunchtime, baby born less then 2 hours later (4pm), not discharge until home 11pm as there were limited MWs around to do the paed checks on baby and we had to wait ages.

Went in on Thursday and had pessary induction for two days with zero results. Saturday afternoon they put me on the dreaded drip and ds was born in 90 minutes. I was so excited on the Thursday thinking I was going to give birth that day....nope! 😂

PostMenWithACat · 04/08/2021 14:41

Went in Tuesday morning at 41.5. Had two pessary about 4/5 hours apart and refused to let the registrar break my waters early afternoon because I didn't seem to be part of the decision making process.

Not much happened and at about 6pm they wanted to hook up the syntocynon drip and I said only if I have an epidural first. By the time the anaesthetist had arrived my waters had broken and contractions were starting. They never started the drip. Baby was born just before 11pm. Wonderful birth. I suspect she was on her way naturally tbh but doing it in her own time. Had two nights in hospital but because of an underlying health condition that had to be monitored rather than the birth.

My induction took 5 days Shock It was a long boring process that was started, then stopped, then started, then delayed because Labour Ward was full...eventually got there, got to 10cms dilated and ended up with an emergency c-section. Wish I had just had an elective section with hindsight!

PivotPivotPivottt · 04/08/2021 14:43

Induce at 37 weeks around 5.30pm, baby born just after 1am, home 9 days later Sad

PivotPivotPivottt · 04/08/2021 14:45

This was on the Thursday I was took in and induced. I was concerned about something I had planned on the Saturday and told the baby won't be here by then so I was shocked how quickly it progressed.

LittleBitOfMayo · 04/08/2021 14:47

Weds-Sat.

Started Wednesday night but 3 pessary's later and that round failed. Had to have a break for 24hrs then start again. Started again on the Friday night and had DS Saturday tea time. Only took 2 pessary's on the second round of induction but if that failed I would've had to have a c section.

THATmamaofMANY · 04/08/2021 14:47

Went in about 930/10am. Baby born just after midnight. Home at lunchtime.

LittleBitOfMayo · 04/08/2021 14:47

I left hospital on the Sunday morning.

My DS was three weeks late and I was induced twice over three days. Then I think they had to wait a day in between the hormones.

It felt like forever! Everyone had their babies and I sat there in tears and just couldnt do it anymore. My DGF came to see me and said the baby would be born before the weekend and he was! That man knew everything!

EvenLess07 · 04/08/2021 14:48

3 days of induction which 'failed'. Was having contractions for 24 hours but only at 1 cm and they completed stopped. Had multiple pessaries and gels. They tried to do several stretch and sweeps to get things going to break my waters but with no success and after all the intervention/examinations, a great deal of pain (as a CSA survivor this was pretty high up with scenarios I really didn't want).

They wanted to wait 24 hours and start the process from the beginning, while saying it may end in an EMCS. I refused to let another person touch me until they agreed to go ahead with an ELCS (which my consultant had offered months ago, wish I'd taken him up on it that day!)

In the end, got my ELCS. All in all, a week in hospital recovering from the CS but also the aftermath of the induction. DD is 19 mo and I still think about it often. The mental scars of the induction have lasted much longer than the CS.

Obviously lots of people have them very successfully but I'd encourage anyone to do their research thoroughly. I had one as I was told to and should have asked more questions.

Lol I was in for 48 hrs before the induction worked and a week after the birth due to my heart rate.

Also, midwives who say oh, you'll have your baby in your arms by tomorrow and 3 days later you're still sitting there waiting while what feels like the 1000th person before your is wheeled off to delivery suite Hmm. The majority are wonderful but don't make promises you can't keep!

SheABitSpicyToday · 04/08/2021 14:50

I was induced Tuesday morning and daughter was born Friday night.

Tibtab · 04/08/2021 14:51

Went in Tuesday afternoon, baby born on Thursday afternoon. Had to stay until Saturday night as had a post-partum haemorrhage and they thought I might have sepsis.

readytostand22 · 04/08/2021 14:52

Went in on Wednesday afternoon and ended up having baby by emergency section Friday morning, then finally home Sunday.

ProudDada · 04/08/2021 14:52

Wife went in at 1630 on a Saturday. Baby born 3hrs 30minutes later.

JamieLeeBee · 04/08/2021 14:53

Went in for induction on Friday, baby born by emergency Caesarean in the early hours of Monday morning, not out until Wednesday lunchtime.

Heyha · 04/08/2021 14:55

I went in on Sunday morning, finally got my waters broken Wednesday tea time, baby arrived Thursday evening, managed to escape Saturday afternoon.
My hospital was, thankfully, quite flexible as was allowed to go off for a mooch during the day round the (quite extensive at this one) grounds, down to the cafe etc as long as I was back for my obs, while on antenatal. I didn't respond very well to the pessaries or drip though (was 40 weeks and nowhere near ready to start naturally as well) so that probably slowed things down, but it was a real shock to me how long it took and nobody had warned me beforehand. I was pretty tired before we even got into labour just by being out of my home comforts for days beforehand.

Needingsupportplease · 04/08/2021 14:58

11 days. Went in on Monday and was induced same day and was 2cm and ready for waters breaking that evening but there was no room on labour ward so had to wait. Finally had baby Friday at 2am by emcs but baby had sepsis so was in another 4 days.. Great fun never again. Elcs this time!

I found that really hard too! Lady comes in, one or maybe two pessaries later, they'd disappear off to delivery while I was out trying to walk the baby into action, new person in that bed, then off they went too. Even my delivery took so long the consultant that broke my waters was amazed she'd gone off shift and then came back on to find me still in her department!
