How long were you in hospital if you were induced?

My DHs sister (SIL) has been in hospital now for 3 days. Went in first thing on Monday morning to be induced at 40 weeks and still no sign of baby so far.
No one is worried but I had no idea being induced could take so long! DS was a spontaneous birth and came early so he was out within a couple of hours.
I'm just curious how long most women go from being induced to having their baby?

Induced as an emergency due to pre-eclampsia, just after midnight, DC born 15 hours later, I went straight into surgery for 5 hours, discharged 4 days later, although this was delayed by 2 days as the ward staff couldn't find my notes to get signed off for discharge.

TrampolineForMrKite · 04/08/2021 15:00

Not me but my sister. Went in on Sunday night. Baby eventually born the following Friday afternoon. Longest induction in the history of man! I’d previously had a spontaneous birth and an individual toon that took 6 hours, so I was really shocked.

Vanillaradio · 04/08/2021 15:01

Honestly 3 days is nothing out of the ordinary even at 40 weeks. In my case I was admitted to hospital on the Tuesday with pre-eclampsia. They started the induction on the Thursday, when I hit 37 weeks, eventually did emergency c section on the following Monday and I was then in hospital due till the following Friday due to ds having jaundice and feeding issues.

10 days for me, 3 failed inductions, ended with an emergency c-section on day 7, stayed a few days for observation.

olivesnutsandcheeseplease · 04/08/2021 15:06

Went in on Wednesday morning at 38 weeks, was checked to be 3 cm already, told to have lunch and come back at 2pm. Waters broken at 3pm delivered at 11.26pm

Lalanbaba · 04/08/2021 15:08

Went in Friday and baby was born Monday morning.
They tried to induce me with a pessary that I think you can have up to 24h and they might try again a second time.
It did nothing to me as I was only dilated 2cm after more than 48h. Got me in the drip and that moved fast.

Gregan · 04/08/2021 15:20

In on Sunday morning at 40+5 and during initial examination was asked if I’d been feeling anything as I was apparently already 1cm gone. Excellent I thought, I’ll be done and dusted by dinner time…

3x pessaries on the Sunday and when doc examined me on the Monday morning I had made it to 2cm and needed another round of pessaries - but you need to wait 24hrs between goes!! Cue lots of tears and me feeling like Rachel in Friends watching the ward fill and empty about 3 times.

Started pessaries again Tuesday morning and by lunch nothing was happening so I got taken down to have my waters broken. Waters at 5 and on drip for 5:30. Spent the night being told I wasn’t progressing and may need a EMCS but next exam I would have made it to the threshold to keep going. Finally got ok to push at 10am Wednesday morning but contractions were still few and far between even at 10cm so into surgery to try assisted delivery and eventually c-section around lunchtime.

Didn’t get home until the Saturday so in for almost a full week.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 04/08/2021 15:32

Fucking ages and it ended in an emergency csection anyway

Abraxan · 04/08/2021 15:33

Went in Wednesday.
Baby born Friday night.
Home Monday lunch time.

Abraxan · 04/08/2021 15:34

Baby only born Friday night because it was an c section. Only got to 2-3cm dilated after hours and hours of induction.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 04/08/2021 15:40

4 days. Both times. It was so bloody boring. 3 days of that gel then onthe 4th day the Dr took a big hook and broke my waters and I was hooked up to a drip to get the contractions going.

I was off my face on gas and air when he broke my waters with the hook and I called him little Bo Peep, asked him where his sheep were and laughed at my brilliant wit for several minutes Blush

savagebaggagemaster · 04/08/2021 15:47

Induced for both my dc

DC1 - in at 7am, dc born at 4:54am the following morning. Nothing kicked off until the evening and two lots of gel.

DC 2 - in at 9am, dc born at 8:20pm that evening. (Once the contractions started he was born within 1.5hours - again, two lots of gel required!)

PrancerandDancer · 04/08/2021 15:59

I went in first thing Tuesday morning but baby showed no signs of shifting.
Was giving the choice of having my waters broken and going on a drip and probably ending up with a C-section or going straight to theatre.
Had the C-section Friday morning was out Saturday afternoon.
Hope baby is here soon!

kittlesticks · 04/08/2021 16:02

Went in on the Saturday morning, baby born early hours of Tuesday. First baby. Second baby no induction basically one hour start to finish Shock

ElizaDoolots · 04/08/2021 16:07

I think there is a pathway for induction and they try the less invasive methods first and work upwards from there but give each method some time to work first, with the syntocinon drip being the last option. So end to end it can take some time depending on how far you need to go up that pathway.
I was moved straight onto the drip because my waters had broken 2 days previously and there was too high a risk of infection to wait any longer, so I was there for around 12 hours until DD was born, and then stayed in recovery for another 24ish hours.

Tempusfudgeit · 04/08/2021 16:11

Admitted 7am Friday, had baby 5am Monday, ready to go same day by 2pm.

LividLaVidaLoca · 04/08/2021 16:19

Induced on the Monday.

Requested section because "fuck this" by the Thursday. Baby born on the Friday early morning.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 04/08/2021 16:23

Just over 48 hours.

Pessary in at 11am, waters broke around 4pm. 10cm dilated by 10pm, emergency c section at 1am. Allowed home the next day around 5pm-ish after pushing to be discharged, hospital staff all lovely but I hated being in there without my partner and couldn’t wait to get home! I know people whose inductions alone (before labour began) took the full three days.

worksleep · 04/08/2021 16:25

3 days with nothing happening on the 4th day I had a c-sec.

BurningBenches · 04/08/2021 16:27

I've had 4 inductions

1st arrived about 5pm, pessary, waters broke about 1am, dd was born 1pm. Stayed for 7 days after.

Dc3 arrived 12ish. No pessary just waters broken I guess waters broken 2pm, contractions began 2.30pm (when I stood up) born 4.25pm. Left 9am the next morning (stayed in because it took a long time to discharge us, no medical reason)

Dc4 arrived 2ish, had waters broken again, nothing happened so put on drip (refused until epidural in place) at 11pm. Established labour by 2am, baby born 6am home by lunchtime.

Dc5 arrived 8am, waited around for a space on delivery until 2.30pm. Waters broken 3.05pm, contractions started 3.35pm baby born 5.35pm. Home by 9.30pm thank god!!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 04/08/2021 16:46

Waters broke Sunday lunchtime.

Went into hospital for induction Wednesday 9am.

Finally born Friday 7pm.

Discharged Saturday 5pm.

Mummyme87 · 04/08/2021 16:46

I’m a midwife and advise women inductions can take a good 3 days before active labour even starts, depending on the method of induction. If it’s propess pessaries may be a couple of those which are on for 24hours each before being able to break your waters, sometimes need other things such as a balloon/Dilapan/prostin. It can definitely take a long time and 3days isn’t abnormal

fastandthecurious · 04/08/2021 16:51

3 days prior to the birth and 4 days after the birth so a week. The longest of my life.

Cityzen74 · 04/08/2021 16:53

Went in on the Friday. Baby born on Monday night and went home Wednesday night. Hope everything goes well Flowers

Clutterbugsmum · 04/08/2021 17:06

4 Hours both times.

I don't go into labour naturally, but once induced I give birth really quickly.

Home the next day.
