How long were you in hospital if you were induced?

Biancadelrioisback · 04/08/2021 14:26

My DHs sister (SIL) has been in hospital now for 3 days. Went in first thing on Monday morning to be induced at 40 weeks and still no sign of baby so far.
No one is worried but I had no idea being induced could take so long! DS was a spontaneous birth and came early so he was out within a couple of hours.
I'm just curious how long most women go from being induced to having their baby?

It was 3 days for me, ages waiting for pessary to work, then trying another pessary, then getting sent to labour ward for drip, then getting sent back to make way for an emergency, back again the following morning for drip (which didn't bloody work) then eventually a c section

Byeckythump · 04/08/2021 17:15

4.5 hours from gel/sweep to baby. Home the next day.

I labour quickly so knew I'd be in and out of the induction ward pretty quickly but I did feel bad that I was mooing away within an hour surrounded by ladies who had been stuck there a while.

Went in early Tuesday morning. Baby born Thursday teatime. Went home on the Monday.

I was induced with a pessary for 5 days until I had a section, then came home two days after.
With DD I had my waters broken and had an emergency section the next morning, home 5 days later.

Kept in on Wednesday night after reduced movements for induction asap - no delivery suite beds available- balloon on Thursday lunch time- balloon fell out Thursday evening- still no beds - taken to delivery suite Friday night- at midwife change over - evening midwife went off sick 10 mins after starting luckily hadn't broken waters yet- short staffed no replacement- sat in delivery suite until 8am next morning when day staff came on and they found someone else. Water finally broken about 10am baby born at nearly midnight Saturday night home Sunday afternoon- longest 5 days especially as no visitors allowed due to covid. Dh was only allowed in once I was in delivery suite

DC1- 9am Mon morning and given pessary around the same time. DC born 9am Wed morning. Home Thursday afternoon.

DC2 - same as above.but born 3am Tues morning. Home around 6pm Tuesday.

A week, one being woken up every hour or so throughout the night and not allowed to leave the bed. Took 3 days before baby appeared via induction. Horrible week.

PivotPivotPivottt · 04/08/2021 20:07

Reading all of these posts my induction was really quick compared to most. I was an emergency induction due to pre eclampsia/HELLP so I wonder if I was given a more "speedy method" for want of a better phrase 🤔. I was just about to be wheeled off for an emergency section when I had to push it just makes me a bit curious reading these posts if the midwives are more relaxed during normal inductions but in emergency situations they can make it happen quicker?

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 04/08/2021 20:08

I was 36 hours from first pessary in to baby out. 24 hours of pessary; waters broken; drip started after 26 hours; baby out 10 hours later.

Imgoingbackto505 · 04/08/2021 20:12

Into hospital at 9am one day, given pessary almost straight away, gave birth the following evening about 6pm (after also having waters broken, put on a drip, and finally epidural and forceps)

Pootles34 · 04/08/2021 20:15

I was induced for my second, was induced around 10am and baby born around 2pm. Active labour for about an hour I think?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 04/08/2021 20:18

Went in 8am Wednesday, had baby 6.30pm Thursday, and went home at 8am Friday.

AliasGrape · 04/08/2021 20:22

My contractions started fairly soon after induction on the Tuesday AM. I was meant to be an inpatient induction but they gave me the option to go home and I took it. I didn’t particularly realise I was having contractions as they were all in my back/ bum (turns out baby was back to back). Waters broke that evening at home about 12 hours after induction. Had 3 attempts at going back to the hospital (as requested by them and at the times they gave) to be sent home due to no beds and short staffed (Covid) then finally admitted just before midnight on the Wednesday. Baby born by EMCS on the Thursday night as things had got quite complicated by then and we both had sepsis.

A further 5 days in hospital before coming home.

HealthKick2021 · 04/08/2021 20:32

Went in on the 29th. Baby arrived on the 4th day. They tried several types of induction on me, in the end I was on the drip.

Toasty280 · 04/08/2021 20:45

Went in 7am, pessary 8am, drip around 11am, baby born 9pm, stayed into 2 nights to help establish breast feeding

Zee17 · 09/09/2021 19:21

I got induced yesterday at 9:30pm. They did a membrane sweep (optional) and then inserted the propess, which is a bit like a tiny tampon. I started getting mild cramps straight away and they felt like period cramps to start off with. My contractions started getting very strong around 12:30am. At around 2am, I asked the midwife for gas and air and told her the contractions are too strong. She gave me gas and air and was monitoring the baby and soon after I started screaming “I need to push!” The midwife was in disbelief tbh. I’m sure she thought I was exaggerating lol. Then I delivered a beautiful baby girl within half an hour at 3am. My labour and delivery was only 5 and a half hours long. Even I didn’t expect it to escalate so quickly! This was my second baby.

2under2howscary · 09/09/2021 19:29

Induced at 38 weeks. First pessary 11pm friday. Second pessary and in labour all day Saturday and had DS 2am sunday. Home Sunday

underneaththeash · 09/09/2021 19:37

Twice - went in 1pm - pessary, walked around for a bit, waters broken and had baby by 8pm.

underneaththeash · 09/09/2021 19:38

Incidentally, I was 41 weeks both times (I don't go into labour naturally and had a really traumatic labour with DC1)

skippy67 · 09/09/2021 19:40

I was induced at 42 weeks. Waters broken manually at 1332, baby born exactly 2 hours later. I went home the next day.

nervousseacreature · 09/09/2021 19:40

Went in for pessary Friday afternoon, baby born Sunday evening. Got out following Saturday…

Bugbeau · 09/09/2021 19:42

I went in on Saturday morning at 7am and had my baby at 6.30am on the Sunday. I was only in active labour from midnight to 6.30am though, the rest of the time I was just waiting around or having mild contractions.

AliceMck · 09/09/2021 19:49

Baby #1 was induced at 9am baby arrived at 6pm the next day, but that wasn’t in the uk, I had far better maternity care and someone with me round the clock making sure things were going well. Baby #3 went in at 9am Tuesday, was eventually induced about 4pm that day, was led there for 2 days pretty much being ignored before they eventually took me down to get things moving. It was another 12 hours before baby arrived.

unicornpower · 09/09/2021 19:52

Had first pessary at 2pm today, will report back how long I’m here for! (Been here since 9am!)

soupmaker · 09/09/2021 19:57

Induced at midnight. Told it'd be at least 12 hours before baby will start to make an appearance. She was born at speed just after 6am DH only just made it because the midwife on duty didn't believe I could be in actual labour at 5am. As I said to her, I've done this before I know. But she wouldn't listen. Waters broke on ward, while I was fully dressed. Had to be wheelchaired down to labour suites, phoned DH while getting in the lift in between contractions. Told to hold on as there were so many babies being born. No pain relief as was so far on. DD shot out just as DH was ordered to push the button to summon a second midwife. Took longer to stitch me up.
