I really don't need a male, 24-year-old sports coach mansplaining exercise and weight loss to perimenopausal women, thank you very much

That is all.

He's not anyone I work with, just someone I got into a conversation with and he started giving me unsolicited "advice". Hmm

Just fuck off.

OP posts:
gardeninggirl68 · 03/08/2021 13:53

I think the op just wants some collective outrage and a male in his 20's

But she's not getting it here!😂

C8H10N4O2 · 03/08/2021 13:53

Well no.... we will mention it if we like? You can't silence people you know......

Is your point that mansplaining is not a thing or that the poor menz are misunderstood darlings who are not appreciated?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 13:53

@Bluntness100

Okdoke. Do you have a question?

100% agree. Had a similar conversation myself not so long ago. Told that it’s a myth that women gain weight / change body shape at menopause. Incredible really that the man is still alive…

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 13:54

@Annoyance

Oh good Lord, would you quit with the Karen stuff? This is about a bloke giving me unsolicited advice in a patronising manner when he doesn't know anything about me or my health.
Oh! As you were.

Fuck off with the Karen shit!

C8H10N4O2 · 03/08/2021 13:55

Not mansplaining if he knows more about it than you.

It is if its unsolicited advice and he is assuming he knows more about it that then OP.

Seems to me the OP was just having a vent at yet another bit of unsolicited and unwanted "help" from a man whose main interest is making himself feel important.

Hardly an unusual occurrence.

Sonarl · 03/08/2021 13:56

I'm with you OP, I don't need more info - fuck off with the Mansplaining whoever you are.

I just don't tolerate it now - has taken me nearly 50 years to overcome my female conditioning and now I just stop them in their tracks and say, no, that's not what I'm asking or no, you're wrong.

If that makes me a Karen or an OK Boomer, so be it. Although both are pathetic, lazy tropes used by people without enough wit or intelligence to stand up to me.

TrixieThunder · 03/08/2021 13:57

I had something similar a few years ago. A friend of DP's had just started going to the gym (I've been going for years) and started a conversation on the correct way to do squats and asking if he could to critique my form so he could show me the correct way - we weren't even talking about fitness! Fuck the hell off.

gardeninggirl68 · 03/08/2021 13:57

Such offence! I don't know how people manage to navigate life feeling so hurt all the time

Queenoftheashes · 03/08/2021 13:58

@Seesawmummadaw

But he was a sports coach? I often give my male patients advice. Is that bad because I’m female? Should I stop?
That clearly isn’t what happened here. Your patients will have solicited your advice.
FadoFado · 03/08/2021 14:00

People offering unsolicited advice on any subject can fuck off.

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 03/08/2021 14:00

@Hont1986

Not mansplaining if he knows more about it than you.
It is if she didn't ask for his advice, which she didn't, as clearly stated in the OP.
Wishes2020 · 03/08/2021 14:01

@Sparklfairy

The difference between "Karen" and "mansplaining" is that Karen is used to silence.

Mansplainers can never be silenced Grin

How have you managed to silence a Karen? Genuinely interested.
FadoFado · 03/08/2021 14:01

@gardeninggirl68

I think using the expression 'mansplaining' is the same (and as bad as) the term 'Karen'
Fascinating.
gardeninggirl68 · 03/08/2021 14:04

Hmmm is isn't it

Theunamedcat · 03/08/2021 14:04

Umm so mansplaining is nothing like "Karen" but people on this thread need to remember this is chat not aibu

BeenThruMoreThanALilBit · 03/08/2021 14:05

You want to rant - fine. But on a public forum it might be an idea to at least be entertaining or interesting while you’re at it.

You’re just being angry. As an angry, peri-menopausal woman myself, you’ve just made me angrier. So, thanks.

Even in Chat you get an indication of what's required response wise.

TheOrigRights · 03/08/2021 14:11

Can you describe the context OP?

Saidtoomuch · 03/08/2021 14:11

I understand why you are annoyed op, and am amazing at some of the responses here.
I got stuck with a stranger in a random circumstances talking about his health issues. He was an expert because he reads stuff on Facebook. I nodded and uh-hu'd politely until he told me out of the blue that I quite clearly wasn't looking after myself and "helpfully" pointed out my short comings. Still kicking myself for walking away when a "piss off" and poke in the eye would have been much more appropriate.

CitrusIceCream · 03/08/2021 14:12

“Mansplaining” is yet another buzz word that has lost it’s intended meaning by being misused....usually by social media attention seekers.

It’s supposed to refer to those men (of whom there are plenty) that intentionally dumb-down or simplify issues when speaking to women that they presume too stupid for a standard explanation. Or even offer an explanation with no indication that any is needed...just because they’re talking to a woman.

It’s not meant to refer to a qualified sports coach offering fitness (or whatever) to someone who isn’t a qualified sports coach.

His advice may have been unwelcome & unsolicited, but it’s not “mansplaining”.

CitrusIceCream · 03/08/2021 14:12

^ fitness advice

How did the conversation lead to him offering the advice, was you already discussing on a similar topic ?
annacondom · 03/08/2021 14:13

There comes a time when you think, I'm old enough and ugly enough to know what I'm doing without someone explaining it to me, thanks very much, as I've been doing it this way for years and it suits me.

Unfortunately, some people do also assume that women over a certain age are stupid.

Bouncealot · 03/08/2021 14:17

What do you call younger women that do this? Friend 10 years younger than me had first hot flush and is advising me on HRT, diet and exercise regime. I’m 2 years post meno now, did what suited me at the time, thank you v much, and feel fab Hmm
