What films can you no longer watch since having a baby?

Or TV programmes?
I hadn't realised how much I'd been affected until I started watching Tangled and had to turn it off when the baby is taken by the witch. Nope, nope, not happening.

What have you realised you can't watch, or you feel differently about since having a child?

Dumbo

Fruityfriday · 31/07/2021 13:26

And I tried to watch Cathy come home. Traumatised me.

orangejuicer · 31/07/2021 13:52

I agree with you about Dumbo. I've never seen Cathy come home but having just looked at the plot I'm glad for it!

We tried to watch The Pursuit of Happyness when our baby boy was about 2 weeks old. Nope.

Under The Skin
Specifically the bit on the beach.

Yes. I can see how that wouldn't be wise!

What to expect when your expecting. I know it's meant to be funny but I watched it when dd was a few weeks old and I was sobbing at it!

Rogue1001 · 31/07/2021 13:58

My baby's nearly 20, but at the time, trainspotting.

Had seen it in the cinema, had read the book.

When the film came on the TV started to watch, had to turn it off

justasking111 · 31/07/2021 14:00

Nothing violent about children since my first in 1980 still the same, have grandchildren now. I'm the same with books. Violence, murders against women or children

Aquaman, when his mum had to leave him as a baby. Having a boy of a similar age, I was in bits!!

I can’t watch call the midwife any more. I started rewatching it when my babies were born during the endless feeds fo stay awake - got to the episode where a mother and unborn baby died of eclampsia and bawled my eyes out as realised that would’ve been the three of us if it had been 50/60 years ago.

I’ve not been able to watch dumbo in about 28 years as it made me too upset and miss my own mum.

OverTheWater · 31/07/2021 14:08

Schindlers List. It's obviously not an easy watch at the best of times but the scene where they take the children away . . . I felt as if I was not acknowledging the awfulness of history by turning it off, and that I owed it to those who were there to watch, but I just couldn't.

SquirrelNutkins2000 · 31/07/2021 14:15

I can't watch anthing with alot of violence or really bad language!

tothesea · 31/07/2021 14:16

I felt the same about a film called Sarah’s Key. I felt I should continue watching as that’s all I had to do…watch…not live through it. But the event at the start was too devastating…I thought about it for weeks.

DufferMum · 31/07/2021 14:16

I was on the treadmill at the gym about 6 weeks after DD was born. “Neighbours” was on with the sound off, a story line about a depressed mother. She left her baby in the car and wandered off into a shopping mall, in Australia with the sun beating down. The tears were streaming down my face and worst still, when I got home I realised I had leaked milk right through my tee shirt.

Also couldn’t watch Titanic for years, the scene where she’s singing to the children in the bunks and the water is coming in .. shudder!

FionnulaTheCooler · 31/07/2021 14:16

Mamma Mia, Slipping Through my Fingers song.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 31/07/2021 14:17

Willow. (Appropriate, given my username). They steal the baby. It was my favourite film as a teen (shows my age!) but I can't watch it at all. Ditto Labyrinth.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 31/07/2021 14:18

Yes to Dumbo!!!

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 31/07/2021 14:18

And The Land Before Time when the baby dinosaur is looking for his mum

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 31/07/2021 14:19

Rosemary's Baby
Cathy Come Home

Anything with violence or murder in it.

I watch very little TV and few films.....

bongbigboobingbongbing · 31/07/2021 14:21

Sophie's Choice

Any police or medical drama involving violence or cruelty towards children or kids being taken into foster care

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 31/07/2021 14:22

I get both upset and pissed off every time we watch the opening sequence of Rogue One, and never fail to go on a rant to DH about how you can tell a man wrote it as no half decent mother would leave her child hiding alone to go to the suicidal defence of her husband.

movingadviceneeded · 31/07/2021 14:27

The beginning of First Man, I was inconsolable for about 3 hours (and was also 2 weeks PP!)

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 31/07/2021 14:28

I watched Mother when I was pregnant, wouldn't recommend then and definitely not after.
