What films can you no longer watch since having a baby?

Or TV programmes?
I hadn't realised how much I'd been affected until I started watching Tangled and had to turn it off when the baby is taken by the witch. Nope, nope, not happening.

What have you realised you can't watch, or you feel differently about since having a child?

Dumbo- even before kids.

The boy in the striped pyjamas.

Handmaids tale. I watched with a new baby and it so raw. I was traumatised! I know it's not a film.

Mummyratbag · 31/07/2021 19:54

Never seen Sophie's Choice and never want to :(

Sobbed through About Time (when he runs on the beach with his Dad one last time) and then sobbed again the next day when I told DH as he'd fallen asleep watching it!

Gallipoli ( I have sons).
Midnight Express (ditto)
Anything where children are abducted

Odd one but Kramer vs Kramer.

The mum just leaving him 💔

Yes to others mentioned but couldn't watch eg The Boy with the Striped Pyjamas before kids either.

I hate any films or shows where kids are humiliated or not believed, even if it's funny

Beaches... Wish is a shame because it was a really good movie.

Beaches reminds me of my mum. She loves it and watched it lots when I was little. I can watch it now I'm a mother, but know that the day anything happens to my mum I won't be able to watch it again.

I had PND with my first over 20 years ago.

My lovely friends wanted to take me out so we agreed on the cinema. Chose Minority Report as I love SciFi.

Bad choice 😩😩😩😩 child abduction, child death, child abuse.

Oh my god, sent me down a black hole of despair.

aubreyii · 31/07/2021 22:13

Room.

jobsagudden · 31/07/2021 22:18

I can't watch any horror or violence since having kids, I used to be such a huge horror fan.

Abouttimemum · 31/07/2021 22:21

I cry at literally anything involving children now. Used to be hard as nails.

Zelda93 · 31/07/2021 22:25

Omg I used to watch anything and everything but now nothing to do with children .. like pp I was hard as nails emotionally now I'm soft as shit!!

Happylittlethoughts · 31/07/2021 22:29

Sophie's Choice must be the worst I'd guess. Mother's nightmare

QueenAdreena · 31/07/2021 22:31

I can’t watch anything violent anymore (adults or children) and can’t bear anything where a child is abused or abandoned.

I also can’t watch Call the Midwife or One Born Every Minute. I find giving birth so traumatic that watching other women go through it on screen (acting or real!) makes me feel ill.

annie335 · 31/07/2021 22:38

Sophie's Choice
Terms of Endearment
The Champ

GalaxyGirl24 · 31/07/2021 22:38

I've not watched this but DH said he felt sick when he watched Them on Amazon prime and there was a scene where some racist thugs steal a woman's baby boy, put him in a bag and swing him about until he dies. That made me feel sick and DH hasn't been able to watch the show since then...

I can't watch Call the Midwife, OBEM or anything where Children/pregnant women are harmed or there is abuse of any sort

Chanel05 · 31/07/2021 22:39

@HarveySpectorWins

What to expect when your expecting. I know it's meant to be funny but I watched it when dd was a few weeks old and I was sobbing at it!
I watched this in labour to get me in the mood 😂
highlandteajenny · 31/07/2021 22:40

I'm the same as several PP, can't watch anything now with violence/death related to children. I'm really struggling to keep going with the Handmaid's Tale and I'm sure it's because I have a daughter, but it's such a well made piece of television I'm determined to keep going, I usually have to watch an episode of something very lighthearted after to distract me before bed though Grin

Kaydogsdinner · 31/07/2021 22:43

My Zoe, I sobbed and sobbed

GalaxyGirl24 · 31/07/2021 22:44

Also another vote for Handmaids Tale - I keep trying to watch it again but it's so traumatising

Notashandyta · 31/07/2021 22:46

Jaws.
Very annoying cause a brilliant film but that bit where her only boy gets eaten by the shark

Octaviaa · 31/07/2021 23:05

The Lovely Bones

Dinkydody · 31/07/2021 23:06

After the promise 😭😭😭

SemiFeralDalek · 01/08/2021 00:26

Little women. One of my favourite films. Watched it tonight and fucking bawled when Jo returns home when Beth is about to die.

Since having DS1, and then losing DS2, it's like my top coat has been flayed off, I'm not the person I was before my babies.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 01/08/2021 00:34

Rosemary's baby. I first watched it when pregnant with DD and couldn't sleep for days

orangejuicer · 01/08/2021 00:42

Just reading the descriptions makes me shudder!
