Pain in lower abdomen what else can I try?

Pain started yesterday at about 5 pm and has been almost constant since. Nothing seems to be easing it.

I've tried ibuprofen and paracetamol.

I've eaten but that made me feel queasy.

I've had a bath.

I've tried to go to the toilet.

I've tried massaging it and bicycle wheel legs incase it's trapped wind.

I've tried sleeping and hoping I wake up feeling better (I've had about 3 hours restless sleep in total).

I've filled in the NHS 111 online form which says contact GP in the morning.

Not one thing has made even the slightest but of difference. Anything else anyone recommends trying to help it ease until the surgery opens at 8am?

Is it to one side?

MinesAPintOfTea · 31/07/2021 05:24

Go to A&E. sounds like appendicitis. Other organs getting blockage also belong there.

Is your gp even open on a Saturday?

Finally fell into a distributed sleep at about half 5 and have woken up in pain still.

Honestly wasn't think straight when I posted earlier but no my gp isn't open today so no idea why the NHS 111 site recommend that. Hmm

Still in pain it's just under my belly button but doesn't seem focused on one side in particular. Could it still be appendicitis I thought that was right hand side pain?

Yes absolutely could be appendicitis. You need to be examined.

Nobloat21 · 31/07/2021 07:09

On another thread it said something about not being able to jump up and down if it's appendicitis. Obviously I'm not a doctor! Do you have a temperature?

I can jump up and down but it sore when I do so. No temperature or other symptoms.

Looks like ill need to get check out then I'm assuming a pharmacy won't be able to help? Really don't fancy sitting in A&E for the whole day just to be told they can't do anything or even worse it's nothing more than trapped wind. Blush

Call 111 back and try again. You might get an out of hours appointment somewhere

Bulldoglady89 · 31/07/2021 07:28

I had those symptoms with appendicitis. I called nhs 24 and they said it didn't sound like an emergency (even though I described text book symptoms of appendicitis ). Then I started vomiting and just knew something wasn't right. I had to take myself to A&E in a taxi and triage nurse took one look at me and admitted me and gave me morphine and I had my appendix out the next day. Trust your instincts.

Sorry they didn't believe you. Hopefully it's nothing too serious I'm meant to be a bloody bridesmaid tomorrow!

Terrible timing! My first thought was appendix. I’d go get checked today. Is it easing off any?

MinesAPintOfTea · 31/07/2021 08:14

My appendix felt like really bad wind. It just didn’t move around like painful wind usually does. Get checked out.

TheMissingMango · 31/07/2021 08:19

Sounds very similar to me when my appendix went. I called 111 and they sent to a walk in clinic. The nurse pressed my stomach and I nearly flew off the bed in pain. Went to the hospital and had it out with keyhole surgery that night.

Ring 111.

FuckingFlumps · 31/07/2021 12:04

Thanks to all who replied. I followed your advice and I'm now in hospital. They too suspect my appendix.

Good. My husband had an appendix that was on the verge of bursting because he finished a game of golf before going to hospital. It's not worth taking the risk

Nobloat21 · 31/07/2021 14:30

Good luck. Good to be taken seriously, but just remembered you're a bridesmaid tomorrow!

HelplessProcrastinator · 31/07/2021 14:38

Good luck. My DH went to ED with abdo pain and they dismissed it as IBS. Several months later it burst and he was really unwell. His pain was as you describe, not in one side. Very slightly elevated temperature. It was only picked up on a CT scan.

Hope you get well soon OP.

ThelmaDinkley · 31/07/2021 14:38

Hope you feel better soon. I thought appendicitis when reading your post. My mum also had a ruptured hernia which presented with similar pain. A dr once told me about dd with appendicitis you can’t jump up and down or it’s really painful to do so.

hi@FuckingFlumps
sorry to hear this.in 2019 I woke one morning with a pain on middle of stomach thought it couldn't be appendix as thought thst 1 side
I took pain relief 4hrs a day for a week as I didn't want to believe anything was wrong. by the Sunday I took myself to a/e by taxi and it turned out my appendix had ruptured ,I went almost straight to theatre so I would advise anyone woth abdo pain to not leave it.i was very lucky as my stomach was full of poison.
I'd had stich like pain for a few yes which I'm guessing it was grumbling,a few months before it happened my stomach was distended. I hadn't noticed but my friends mum to me after they were all wondering if I was pregnant due to my stomach but were too polite to ask.
appendicitis isn't always one sided pain.hope you are ok though

SurferWoman · 31/07/2021 15:30

Good luck OP

LeonoraFlorence · 01/08/2021 07:53

How are you feeling now, OP?

Nobloat21 · 01/08/2021 08:08

I was just coming on to ask!

Bagelsandbrie · 01/08/2021 08:14

Hope you are doing okay op. Flowers

FuckingFlumps · 02/08/2021 16:44

Thanks for checking in. Just wanted to give a quick update. I spent a good many hours being prodded, poked and tested and they have for now ruled out my appendix.

They instead think it's possibly a cyst on my ovary but they also discovered I had a kidney infection so I'm being treated for that and I'm having a follow up appointment this week for a scan and further tests if necessary. I'm still quite uncomfortable but the antibiotics and pain relief have been helping. Plus it's reassuring that they seem to be taking it seriously by wanting to follow up.

Thanks again for all the kind words and support and for those who were wondering I fortunately made it to the wedding. Smile
