What's good about January?

Was just thinking about how I love every time of year for different reasons. Like all the outdoor activities and sunshine in summer, autumn walks, Christmas, spring when the blossom starts and bulbs poke through. But that bit of winter after Christmas - I can't find anything to like about it. What do you enjoy about that bit between New Year and the start of Spring?

I love a new year!! Fresh start, and a slow start, so you can spend the long month of January getting your head in the game.

Snow always seems to come after December too.

It’s a quiet month to recover after the Xmas madness.

Love January!! It’s Feb-March that is a bit lacklustre for me but then you’ve got he promise of spring at least.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 30/07/2021 20:41

Snow is quite pretty.

Treezan82 · 30/07/2021 20:44

I don't mind February as much as it feels like spring is round the corner like you say. I also quite like pancake day and Valentines day.
VERY good point about snow.

It's my birthday in January so anything I might not have received at Christmas I can get for my birthday.
January sales.
Often get quite cold, crisp clear days - great for walking after all the overindulgence of Christmas.

AlmostSummer21 · 30/07/2021 20:50

Another vote for snow

New year, fresh start.

Several of my favourite people have birthdays.

I'm still x years old (birthday in Feb)

Days are getting longer...

adawong · 30/07/2021 20:52

We usually go to Egypt for three weeks in January. Obviously not for the last 2 years and next year is looking unlikely.

HelenHywater · 30/07/2021 20:53

Nothing. It's shit

The only thing that can be said for it is that the days are slowly getting longer.

Maybeitstime2021 · 30/07/2021 20:55

January lasts for 310 days! However we have a couple of close family birthdays. I have a New Years worth for holidays from work! DP usually takes a couple of weeks off work too.

SirenSays · 30/07/2021 20:58

January sales maybe or that the days are getting longer so its not as dark and gloomy.

I still think its a horrible wet grey month, but at least its one month closer to summer.

DismantledKing · 30/07/2021 20:59

It’s horrible

What's good about January?
RoseMartha · 30/07/2021 21:01

Nothing really I find Jan and Feb a bit depressing and cold.

Teaandakitkat · 30/07/2021 21:01

It's our wedding anniversary

IHateFlies · 30/07/2021 21:01

The best thing about January is that it’s usually a quiet and boring month so it’s a good time to focus on yourself. Embrace the dullness that is January to soothe and rebalance yourself.
Eat healthy warming meals. Read relaxing and soothing books. Watch some cosy films you’ve been meaning to see. Exercise. Contact people. Put food out for the birds. Take a multi vit. Go to bed early.
Plan things to do the coming year.

DisgruntledPelican · 30/07/2021 21:02

It does feel weird to say this after lockdown but I also like the slowness of it and the hibernation possibilities - no one expects much of you so it’s a great time to get into good new habits and routines. I love the fresh start feeling, as well as the cosy dark nights.

silverbubbles · 30/07/2021 21:03

I love January. Its one of the best times of year. Christmas /New year is over there is no expectation to be out and about. You can put plans in place for the year, you can really focus on yourself and your own well being. You can hide away / lie low and achieve things you have been putting off.
Embrace January for all the things you can get done.

userxx · 30/07/2021 21:09

Hate January with a passion, it's such a gloomy depressing month, February is pretty shit too. There should be 10 months in a year.

Timetoreflect · 30/07/2021 21:13

Football transfer window?

CathyorClaire · 30/07/2021 21:13

It's an awesome name.

It contains my birthday which tends to be blessed with cold hard cash so I get to combine my Christmas and birthday funds and spank the sales hard

Notonthestairs · 30/07/2021 21:15

I love January! It's new beginnings. Christmas and NY are done, lots of nice presents to enjoy and we can hunker down if we choose. We also have 3 January birthdays (all the same week) and I wouldn't want anyone to feel crap about having a January birthday.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/07/2021 21:15

There are very few redeeming features to January and February. February is very short, so there's that.

Twizbe · 30/07/2021 21:17

It's my sons birthday so that's good :)

Tbh though, being heavily pregnant in January twice wasn't fun.

SophieB100 · 30/07/2021 21:20

The Christmas stress and pressure is over.
My twin DDs birthday month.
The days start to be slightly longer.
Snow - (and snow days off work if school is shut)
Usually good telly series start in the New Year.
Getting cosy and snug in PJs
Making homemade stews and soups

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/07/2021 21:20

The first day that you feel the sun on your face. Knowing that you're getting nearer Spring than midwinter. No more conspicuous consumption or desperation to make everything perfect. Days are getting longer. In town, the Cherry trees are beginning to show their first few blossoms and snowdrops are poking their heads out of the ground. The scent of winter flowering Jasmine and other shrubs. You're more likely to have snow and much needed rain. Squirrels and Jays searching for their Acorn caches. Crows surfing the blustery winds. Feeding birds and seeing them eagerly waiting for suet. Hearing the Robins shout their defiance against the night and the cold every morning. Going out for a walk/run with everything wrapped up, woolly hat, gloves and coming back warm yet pink from the cold as the ground sparkles with frost. The crunch of silver dusted grass underfoot. Being able to see the bulbs given as gifts the month before coming into growth.

loosingmymarbles · 30/07/2021 21:23

New year.
New goals to achieve
Out with the old, in with the new
And a good clean after Christmas!!

hugoagogo · 30/07/2021 21:24

Christmas is over.
Pubs are nice and quiet because of all the peeps doing dry January.
Still lovely and cold.
Ages til christmas.
I love January
