Have I lost my mind? Ordered my Mum a cuddly toy for her op

My Mum is going in for a big op next week and I can’t see her. I ordered some flowers and then ordered a cuddly butterfly she can snuggle while recovering. She’s not going to think I’m mental, right?

OP posts:

Only you know your mum- I’d personally rather chocs

gamerchick · 30/07/2021 19:53

Doubt it. My daughter and eldest son does random stuff like that for me and I treasure them.

Hope the OP goes well

I bought my mum a cuddly lion when she had cancer surgery. She loved it and still has it 10 years on. I think it's a lovely idea x

Yika · 30/07/2021 19:59

I think it’s really sweet! Something comforting is great in those circumstances. Wishing your mum all the best for the op.

Holothane · 30/07/2021 20:14

I’d love this, myself if she’s happy then let her enjoy her butterfly. Sounds lovely.

ApolloandDaphne · 30/07/2021 20:36

I would probably love that. I would have it with me and know my DDs were thinking of me.

jetty21 · 30/07/2021 20:37

I would love it too. I've started cussing DDs soft toys in the evening and it's lovely Blush

jetty21 · 30/07/2021 20:37

Oh dear, cuddling not cussing

YoungWerther · 30/07/2021 20:38

Sounds like a lovely idea.

Have you read the platypus thread @Slothkin- it will warm your heart and have confidence in your choice!

BigMamaFratelli · 30/07/2021 20:39

I bought my nan a cuddly toy when she was in hospital. She loved it.

I'm sure your mum will like it. And if not, no harm done.

Hope her op goes wellFlowers

You sound like the sort of person that says 'I would have preferred the money'.
GrumpyTerrier · 30/07/2021 20:41

I'd love it. Never too old to feel comforted by a cuddly toy, especially one gifted to you with love.

Quietcrown · 30/07/2021 20:43

I would love it if someone gave me a cuddly toy!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/07/2021 20:44

You sound like the sort of person that says 'I would have preferred the money' nope I’ve just never understood grown adults who like or have cuddly toys - but like I said OPs mum may

DaisyDreaming · 30/07/2021 20:44

If it’s big enough she might find it helpful to hold it to her incision when coughing too!

DaisyDreaming · 30/07/2021 20:45

Also I’m not a cuddly toy person at all, but remember being really unwell and taking comfort from one despite not turning to cuddly toys even as a child!

GetTaeFuck · 30/07/2021 20:45

I did the same for DGM when she had her first knee done, she thought it was hilarious and adorable in equal measure, I said well you’re refusing to have any visitors in hospital (including my DGD!) so you will need something for company Grin She took it for her second one and is taking it for her hip replacement (whenever that happens, it keeps getting cancelled).

Missingthesea · 30/07/2021 20:46

Brilliant idea OP. When I went into hospital i took a raccoon my DD had crocheted for me - something comforting to cuddle at night, and also I reminder of home and family. I bet your mum will love it.

Sewaccidentprone · 30/07/2021 20:48

Dh’s gran much admired ds2’s bear. So we bought her one.

she loved it and made it a little outfit.

It was a very soft knitted bear.

PinkBuffalo · 30/07/2021 20:52

I got my friends who just had big ops a squishy cuddly each they said it really helped them especially times like this when they had to go in hospital by their own etc
They certainly would not have had them normally but they both said how much they loved them 🙂
I say do it and I am sure your mum will like it 👍

User018475022 · 30/07/2021 21:23

I would love it if the butterfly had a deeper meaning to her or yours as a mother daughter.

Standrewsschool · 30/07/2021 21:35

That’s lovely.

SummerWillow · 30/07/2021 21:48

My Mum has her dear teddy bear with her in her nursing home. The bear has been a great comfort to her since my Dad died. She is nearly at the end of her own life and her bear is still watching over her 🙁. Hope your Mum gets comfort from her cuddly butterfly!

bakingdemon · 30/07/2021 21:49

We gave my MIL a soft bunny like the one DS has when she had a big op and she loved it
