Have I lost my mind? Ordered my Mum a cuddly toy for her op

My Mum is going in for a big op next week and I can’t see her. I ordered some flowers and then ordered a cuddly butterfly she can snuggle while recovering. She’s not going to think I’m mental, right?

When I was a teenager I bought my nan a Teddy when she went into hospital. She treasured him, and he is now back with me after she passed away.

Oh I’m glad some others have felt similar comfort in a cuddly - I have one who has come to scary as fuck scans with me when no one else could be there and he gave me a great deal of comfort. I picked a butterfly because my Mum and I both plant wildflowers for bees, butterflies etc. and talk about which ones we’ve spotted.

Its nice.
I was in hospital for quite a while after an accident recently. Due to Covid of course I couldn't have visitors and I got a lot of comfort from the cuddly toy my teenage sons had delivered for me.

When I was very young I won a sort of dog thing which laid on the arm of a sofa holding bits in pockets and proudly presented it to my Taid to ‘make up for’ his dog dying. Fortunately my Taid was a very lovely man and gave it a hero’s welcome by him while he was staying with us.

It's a lovely idea.

Here's the platypus thread if anyone missed it.

@GetTaeFuck my Mum’s going in for a replacement knee - I think she’s a but bonkers to have put it off as long as she has but she was a ballet dancer so I think there’s a lot of emotion going on there I’ll never understand.

Well no feedback on the cuddly yet as she’s still en-route but my Mum’s happy for me to come up to visit and do some looking after (see getting through some excellent box sets and being primary instigator of biscuit time) after I have 2nd jab +3 weeks! Haven’t seen my Mum for over two years now (she was abroad until early 2020, then COVID), I can’t wait!

I sent my mums teddy bear for Valentine’s when she was about 50. Thirty years later she still has it!!

I may even be allowed to cook for her for the first time since I was a teen! Italian Mums - move out and you suddenly forget everything they’ve spent years teaching you apparently (my Mum came to visit me for the first time at uni with a massive suitcase full of tupperware home-cooked dinners - I was knocking on around halls to ask if anyone wanted some, which was when I discovered I already had a rep as some high-maintenance fashionista who made my Mum bring me a suitcase of clothes two weeks in…).

Sorry @myrtleWilson - just realised you also mentioned the platypus thread! It makes me exceedingly happy. I am very attached to my cuddlies and other random objects and I know it’s a bit silly, but no one ever hurt someone else by being a bit daft about the feelings of forks.
