Why haven’t they just cancelled my order?

About a month ago I ordered a item of bedding from a American website.

I Paid and didn’t think much of it. I’m not an expert in this particular quality of bedding so I don’t know what the standard price is.

Anyway, I had a email a couple of days later saying the items Iv ordered were advertised at a glitch price and are ALOT high then what I paid.

They had the same items in different colours but with different momme counts making the pricing different (I didn’t realise what momme was).

They asked me to pay the rest and I said no because as far as I’m concerned they have been paid and I never would of ordered it at the full retail price. They took the money straight away and I paid £10 for shipping.

They keep trying to ‘negotiate’ with me though and I’m not sure why? I presumed they would just cancel my order but they haven’t.

They are now offering me 2 of the 10 items I ordered for the price I paid but why haven’t they just cancelled it instead?

How did you pay? By paypal or credit card? This sounds very dodgy indeed. You paid for the item at the advertised price and they should either honour that price or issue a full refund. Is it a legitimate company?

Cocomade · 29/07/2021 12:25

Because it'll cost them money.
As pp they either honour it or refund.

NonsensicalHair · 29/07/2021 12:33

If they refuse to refund. you have a case with either paypal or your credit card provider, I would imagine.

Egghead68 · 29/07/2021 12:34

Scam?

Soubriquet · 29/07/2021 12:40

What is momme?

And yes, tell them outright, they either cancel the order or honour at the price they advertised for and leave it at that

NonsensicalHair · 29/07/2021 12:48

Momme is something to do with the quality of silk.

Shellingbynight · 29/07/2021 12:48

When you next contact them, state clearly what you want, which I assume is "if you cannot supply the items I ordered at the price originally advertised, I would like a full refund". Otherwise they will probably keep trying to wear you down so you accept something you don't want.

Vanilla1Cookies · 29/07/2021 12:58

It’s silk bedding.

I think they are willing to give me a refund but I’d rather have the items. Two of the items I ordered alone are £75 each and I paid a fraction of that price (they had it listed on more then one colour at the cheaper price) but claimed glitch.

It feels like They want me to say refund the order and I keep going back and saying no I want the items instead and they are ‘negotiating’ with me.

Why won’t they cancel it themselves?

I paid via pay pal. It’s a legit company. I was Googling the bedding and found the company listed along side John Lewis etc as places to buy.

I'm confused, why does it matter whether they cancel or you ask for a refund?

Vanilla1Cookies · 29/07/2021 13:01

I only know they are £75 each as the lady emailing me told me.

I thought they were £31 but I apparently clicked the higher momme count which would of took the price up. I didn’t see that as when I ordered the price stayed the same for all 3 momme counts they advertised.

@MilduraS

I'm confused, why does it matter whether they cancel or you ask for a refund?
Because I’m wondering why they won’t cancel and keep trying to negotiate?

There has to be a reason why and I can’t work it out.

I want the items, not a refund.

OP posts:
Yahtze · 29/07/2021 13:39

The only reason is they're trying to reach a compromise to honour the order. If you can't then they will cancel it. I'd take the compromise if you want the items but beware the import duty!

RosesandPumpkins · 29/07/2021 13:46

What an odd post.
Why won’t they cancel the order? Because you are still engaging with them on the items. You still want the items and they still have the items to sell you. So of course they’re trying to negotiate.

Have you seen some of the threads on here ? I hardly think this is odd.

It’s a simply question and you didn’t have to reply.

Have you said, "please cancel the order"?

If not, then maybe that's why. They are trying to come to a solution that makes everyone happy.

Because its overseas, I'm not sure on the consumer rights but if you had ordered from a UK website then they wouldn't need to honour the sale. If a retailer lists the wrong price, in a genuine error, then they can cancel any orders at that price. It doesn't matter if you want the item for the price advertised, if it was an error then they can cancel it.

You've ordered from the US so I'm not sure if it is the same, but it sounds like they're just trying to give you something for your money without losing hundreds themselves. You're not going to get your full order for what you paid. Just ask for a full refund and move on.

LIZS · 29/07/2021 14:23

Have you asked to cancel?

TakeYourFinalPosition · 29/07/2021 14:24

I think they are willing to give me a refund but I’d rather have the items.

They're trying to compromise with you, so that you get some items and might buy more, rather than just cancelling and leaving you with a poor experience.

If they were here, they would legally be allowed to cancel the order if it was mispriced, as long as their T&Cs allowed it, which most standard ones do.

As it's a US shop, I'm not sure what the specific rules are.

Be careful of customs fees if you do decide to go ahead with any of the order.

SoupDragon · 29/07/2021 14:28

I want the items, not a refund.

You aren't going to get the items at the "glitch" price.

Did you factor in customs charges anyway?

Why won’t they cancel the order? Because you are still engaging with them on the items. You still want the items and they still have the items to sell you. So of course they’re trying to negotiate.

This.

Marriedtothesilverfox · 29/07/2021 14:35

What a weird thread. Cancel order or accept you wont get what you ordered.Confused

PigletJohn · 29/07/2021 14:39

sometimes vendors try to spin out an order until it is too late to notify your paying account and get a refund.

Vanilla1Cookies · 29/07/2021 14:44

I’m not worried if I don’t get the money back. I can afford to lose it if that’s what they are trying to do.

caughtinanet · 29/07/2021 14:55

I'm confused as well. I know it's a stereotype but the US is very big on customer service so maybe they are doing their normal procedure when a mistake happens. It seems odd to you but presumably not to them.

Accept that they aren't going to do themselves down on the sale and ask for a full refund and buy from somewhere else

PigletJohn · 29/07/2021 14:56

I'm not, either.

Galassia · 29/07/2021 14:57

Check that they aren’t stringing you along so that it goes over the allotted time to make a claim.

Deloresabernathy · 29/07/2021 14:58

Do hang on, you want the bedding, but only of its cheap, not full price? Is that right?

They're saying you can't have it cheap. So either pay more or ask for your money back surely?
