I've lost 100's of my Photos

ItsTimeForSomeMeTime · 27/07/2021 07:17

I'm absolutely devastated, as my phone was swiped at the weekend.

It’s not the phone I care about, but it’s the 2 years’ worth of photos that were on it.

Some are on Facebook, but lots aren’t and so they're lost forever; DCs birthdays, non-lockdown night outs, kittens growing up etc etc.

I've reported the incident, but what are the chances of getting my phone/photos back ?

Are they on your Google account if you have one?

ItsTimeForSomeMeTime · 27/07/2021 07:31

I've looked but cant see them there.

Was it an iPhone?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/07/2021 07:32

Of you have a google account I'm pretty sure they get saved automatically.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/07/2021 07:32

HungryHippo11 · 27/07/2021 07:34

They will be on the cloud somewhere, I'm sure they can be retrieved

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/07/2021 07:34

I've just googled and they are saved with a google account.

ItsTimeForSomeMeTime · 27/07/2021 07:38

its an iPhone, so i dont think they save automatically to Google do they ?

Try and take your phone to the Genius Bar if it's an iPhone. I didn't pay for extra storage on the cloud and lost hundreds of photos last year, many of them daily photos of my pregnancy, which I was so upset to lose. I now pay £2.49 per month for extra storage to stop it happening again.

amateurschoolhunter · 27/07/2021 07:40

It will be fine. I left my phone on top of my car once and drove off and it was lost forever. But when I got the replacement (same number) all my photos were still there

Did you have find my phone switched on?
TigersandTeddybears · 27/07/2021 07:41

Have you checked your iCloud?

GoodVibesHere · 27/07/2021 07:42

@chanel05 her phone was stolen I think

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 27/07/2021 07:42

Next to no chance of getting your phone back, sorry. Your best bet is to see if somehow they're on the cloud.

Oh I'm sorry 😬

DisgruntledPelican · 27/07/2021 08:13

You can check your iCloud account from a computer or another phone or tablet?

TakeYourFinalPosition · 27/07/2021 08:14

Google Photos isn’t installed as standard on iPhones, no, but if you had it set up, it’ll have backed up however many photos it could before you ran out of space. iCloud might have done the same thing. The issue with them is that most people fill the free storage pretty quickly, so if you didn’t pay for more, it tends to stop working.

It’s still worth a look to see if any of the ones you think are missing are there!

Have you backed it up to a computer recently? If so, you might be able to retrieve some photos that way, too.

I’m sorry, losing your phone or having it stolen is brutal.

ItsTimeForSomeMeTime · 27/07/2021 08:44

Thanks all, i'm going to have a look on iCloud but from memory i turned that off as it was full and just kept pinging at me.

DH isnt helping as he said in a very unhelpfull way "...i told you and the kids to back up your phones". The smug sod !!

I'm kicking myself as i know there were some really lovely photos in there.

I really hope they are not gone. I lost a lot of my eldest child's early photos which was devastating, so I do always back up now (I pay for extra storage and iCloud storage) as it did upset me so much I have made steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. Photos are great reminders of the times but we do have our memories too. It's ok to be sad that the photos are gone, and have a little cry if you need to. You know you should have backed them up and the mistake you've made and I'm sure you will be more careful in future, but you're allowed to be upset too.

AntiWorkBrigade · 27/07/2021 09:10

I lost loads of photos from a holiday (to an unusual destination I’m unlikely to ever go back to) when my iphone was irreparably water damaged. The phone data wasn’t being backed up to the cloud as the direct debit had run out and I’d got frustrated with trying to get the details updated so gave up.

When this is the case you get reminders all the time about the phone not being backed up. If you haven’t had these, yours are most probably sitting in the iCloud. Fingers crossed for you - losing them is utterly crap.

AntiWorkBrigade · 27/07/2021 09:13

Didn’t see your update, op. Really sorry to see that. Yes, I can relate to the annoying pinging, as well as the sinking feeling when you access your cloud and see nothing recent in it.

ItsTimeForSomeMeTime · 27/07/2021 10:16

I've managed to get into my iCloud, but there are no photos saved.

Gutted and really angry.

OP posts:
ItsTimeForSomeMeTime · 27/07/2021 12:37

update:
iCloud: nothing
Google : nothing
chance of getting phone back: none
lost photos: 100%

It’s a lesson learnt that I hadn’t backup up, but I just want to scream.

Did you whatsapp any to people? If you don't delete chats, there'll be some there?
