I've lost 100's of my Photos

I'm absolutely devastated, as my phone was swiped at the weekend.

It’s not the phone I care about, but it’s the 2 years’ worth of photos that were on it.

Some are on Facebook, but lots aren’t and so they're lost forever; DCs birthdays, non-lockdown night outs, kittens growing up etc etc.

I've reported the incident, but what are the chances of getting my phone/photos back ?

@DrFoxtrot

Did you whatsapp any to people? If you don't delete chats, there'll be some there?
Those are the same ones that are on Facebook.

Its the non-shared photos that actually mean more to me, as they are just mine.

Oh @ItsTimeForSomeMeTime, I’m sorry. A hard lesson to learn re backing up. I pay for more than one service (iCloud and Dropbox) so I know I have it covered.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/07/2021 17:16

I'm so sorry 😞

Make sure you turn back up and sync on the new phone

You gals have done me a favour. I had to reinstall my phone a month ago & just assumed I had to kiss most the pics goodbye, pleased to find them on Google, after all.

One drive (not sure if available on iPhone) is a good alternative.

It's the Microsoft 365 office package, so excel, word etc and one drive cloud storage.

We pay £8 a month for 4 users and it's 1TB of storage each (or it could be shared , I forget) but with both of us taking photos, videos, for the past 4 years it's no where near full.

You can have it set to only upload the photos when you are on WiFi so it doesn't eat your data.

I used to get reminded about my iCloud storage being full, little did I know it was only 79p per month to increase the storage. Awful for you but make sure you back up your next phone to iCloud or to a computer, or google if you go down that route.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 28/07/2021 06:56

@ItsTimeForSomeMeTime

its an iPhone, so i dont think they save automatically to Google do they ?
If you sign in to a new Apple device with your Apple ID your photos should be there
arcof · 28/07/2021 06:56

Did you ever plug your phone into your laptop when you had it? Photos sometimes make there way on to the laptop. Did you ever back
up to iTunes?

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 28/07/2021 06:57

Oh sorry I didn't see you've already checked iCloud :(

Datingandnoideahowto · 28/07/2021 07:00

This happened to me. I lost photos of my mum before she died and I was gutted. I hadn’t shared them with anyone.

I’m so sorry.

(I am another who pays about a quid a month for extra storage on iCloud now)

Nerfelite · 28/07/2021 07:07

OP, I'm really sorry your photos are gone.

Can I just say to everyone with an Iphone, the free storage limit on icloud a third of the one you get on Google Photos. I have had android phones for seven years and take 1000s of photos. Ive only filled half my storage on Google cloud. And of course, I am also allowed to put a memory card in my phone too, so have another method of storing photos.

supasoup · 28/07/2021 07:11

This happened to me last year so I know the frustration you are feeling.

When I checked my iCloud I had some photos saved but I'd already printed those out and was supposed to delete them from iCloud to free up storage, but kept putting it off.

AuntieMarys · 28/07/2021 07:14

I am very old fashioned and every month get photos printed from Snapfish ( 50 free a month). I love photos and my albums are precious. I look on them as my dementia books for when I'm older.

whippitwoowoo · 28/07/2021 07:37

Do you have a BT account op?
Mine get saved into the BT app automatically from my iPhone.

Clymene · 28/07/2021 08:02

It costs 79p a month to have iCloud back up everything. Worth it.

I'm so sorry you learned the hard way. Happened to me too a couple of years ago.

mommybear1 · 28/07/2021 10:42

@ItsTimeForSomeMeTime I also lost baby photos and videos from my iPhone did you back up to a laptop or pc at all? If so
I had done some further research when I lost mine and found a piece of software called Stellar and a geek thread MNer had also recommended Easeus. So after the disappointing Apple "support" call I decided there was nothing more to be lost and I have tried Easeus- it's a free recovery tool which shows if it can restore the videos. I was amazed - it scanned and found all of the baby videos 👶🏻 and photos I had lost. You do have to pay for a full version but you can at least see if any can be recovered from your laptop/pc. Hope this helps!
