Having just returned from a week in Hayling Island, I am absolutely sold on pebble beach holidays from now on! I always thought I hated the beach.... nope, just the sand! The joy of flicking pebbles into a bucket of seawater will stay with me forever!

I am now armed with beach shoes and a foldy up chair... the world is a pebbly oyster!

Give me your best pebbly recommendations!

Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset! One of my very favourite places ever - www.visit-dorset.com/things-to-do/kimmeridge-bay-p581223
Gets a bit busy on a fine day with paddle boarders, sea kayakers etc but I’ve not yet seen the beach at all crowded.

Blackpool sands, Devon

mumwon · 26/07/2021 22:31

I have been there for decades but isn't Ramsgate pebbles - it use to be nice

LEMtheoriginal · 26/07/2021 22:35

Another vote for budleigh salterton - beautiful round pebbles.

Im totally with you re the sandy beach. I'll choose pebbles every day. I like to bring a few home. This is absolutely not allowed in budleigh though.

Pebble beaches are often less busy too - bonus.

We are currently staying in walmer, just down from deal. Miles of quiet pebbly beaches to enjoy.

MerryMarigold · 26/07/2021 22:41

Tankerton near Whitstable. Gorgeous for swimming and pebbly.

MerryMarigold · 26/07/2021 22:43

I have discovered lugworms this year so I'm FULLY converted to pebbly beaches. 🤢🤮

maxbabi · 26/07/2021 22:47

Ringstead in Dorset as someone above mentioned is a fabulous beach with a little shop its so quiet and lovely.
Also recently visited a friend in Folkestone and the beach was really nice.

MargaretThursday · 26/07/2021 22:48

Rye Harbour in Kent. Ds loves it (he hates sand too)

MargaretThursday · 26/07/2021 22:48

Actually I think Rye Harbour is Sussex, anyway, it's on the border.

ZittiEBuoni · 26/07/2021 22:51

Here in Weymouth tourists come for the sandy end of the beach, but all the cool kids are on the pebbly end at Greenhill - we've got the lot.

(And yes, Chesil is pebble central, but not at all safe for swimming.)

I second Ringstead, Kimmeridge and add West Bay for Dorset.
