Having just returned from a week in Hayling Island, I am absolutely sold on pebble beach holidays from now on! I always thought I hated the beach.... nope, just the sand! The joy of flicking pebbles into a bucket of seawater will stay with me forever!

I am now armed with beach shoes and a foldy up chair... the world is a pebbly oyster!

Give me your best pebbly recommendations!

Porlock Weir beach, near Minehead. Huge pebbles, gives your leg muscles a really good workout trying to walk over them!Grin

Hythe in Kent

I love a pebble beach but find them quite painful to paddle in.

@ZittiEBuoni

Here in Weymouth tourists come for the sandy end of the beach, but all the cool kids are on the pebbly end at Greenhill - we've got the lot.

(And yes, Chesil is pebble central, but not at all safe for swimming.)

I second Ringstead, Kimmeridge and add West Bay for Dorset.

We went to West bay today. The sea was lovely. The beach was horrid but then I hate pebbled beaches.

Weybourne and Sheringham, North Norfolk

Shingle street I’m Suffolk is an amazing place to visit. Not safe for swimming though the water creates these huge pools in the beach which are safe. It’s really atmospheric. Also got aldeburgh nearby which is a much more mainstream holiday destination and not sandy.

Kilve beach in Somerset - with the added bonus of fossils too!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 27/07/2021 00:34

Wetsuit socks make it much less painful wading in pebbles. None of that funny walk back from the sea Grin

MistySkiesAfterRain · 27/07/2021 00:34

On

Ringstead in Dorset as someone above mentioned is a fabulous beach with a little shop its so quiet and lovely.

Yes, it's quiet, because mostly only locals know about it! Don't go telling everyone else!

Greenhill is good, because the beach is pebbly, but once you're in the water, it's sand underfoot.

Kimmeridge is good, but a bit of a drive to get to.

I need to go back home again.

Not been in years but recall Whitstable being a shingle beach.

And absolutely agree that it’s about having the right footwear. We like Hot Tuna’s aqua shoes. Comfy, easy to get on and off, don’t rub, protect against pebbles and don’t come off when you swim. Been a game changer for my kids (our local beaches are all pebbly, so they get used a lot)
