We haven't seen family for 2 years so will have quarantine to come to the UK and quarantine when we get home.. we are calling it lockdown and need some entertainment. Kids aged 17, 14 and 12 and 2 adults. 17 always wins games, loves strategy but doesn't see the benefit of playing so everyone has fun. 14 year old always loses, would prefer there was no winner but everyone achieved in their own way and could be happy. 12 year old thinks he is the last in line for everything and has to loose to competitive older brother and also loose to highly sensitive older sister.

We are a tough crowd.

We already have lots of games, ticket to ride, carcason, pandemic fall of Rome, another Rome game I can't remember..

Hit me with your recommendations!

Legends of Andor.

Pandemic is a great game! Either everyone wins or everyone loses!

The really nasty horse racing game

MrsPatrickDempsey · 25/07/2021 20:15

Ticket to Ride. Out favorite is the USA version

30degreesandmeltinghere · 25/07/2021 20:16

I got Jurassic Park Monopoly for my recent birthday!! Haven't played it yet!

DinosaurOfFire · 25/07/2021 20:16

Concordia or Brass Birmingham, very similar games but in Brass you have to trade together. Catan is good with tbe 6 person expansions, or maybe King of Tokyo? Which is far lighter and mostly down to dice rolls. Killer Bunnies ia fun too but can be a bit rude so depends on the 12 year old.

MadMadMadamMim · 25/07/2021 20:17

Ingenious or Quirkle are both brilliant.

SnoopyLights · 25/07/2021 20:17

We recently bought one called House of Danger, which is based on the Choose Your Own Adventure books. It's mostly cards and a small board. There are some flaws in the game play but as a novelty it's not bad.

Dobble is usually good for all ages.

I saw a sherlock Holmes game recommended on here and bought it for DM and DF for Xmas - they phoned me after they played it to tell me how good it was!

It’s a card game rather than a board game, but we really enjoy Fluxx - favourites are the Pirate edition and the Monty Python one. The rules and goals change constantly so even if you’re trying to be competitive it doesn’t always work.

Failing that, Throw Throw Burrito. Simple to play and you get to take out annoying players by chucking foam burritos at their throat Wink

SoddingWeddings · 25/07/2021 20:20

Exploding Kittens
Some of the Cards Against Humanity boxes are less inappropriate than others if your family is up for that (Cards Against Disney / Maturity etc)

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 25/07/2021 20:20

Is Kensington still available? Easy to learn, hard to master?

Nearlythere21 · 25/07/2021 20:21

Some fun ones that level the mixed ability....? My 7 year old can win Exploding Kittens.
Sushi Go, a bit calmer
Throw Throw Burrito, definitely not calm.

LunaNorth · 25/07/2021 20:21

Sequence is fun and easy.

APurpleSquirrel · 25/07/2021 20:22

Secret Hitler
Dixit
Munchkin

Nearlythere21 · 25/07/2021 20:22

Sorry I see my suggestions have been made already.
Monopoly deal is way more fun than actual Monopoly.

Puffalicious · 25/07/2021 20:24

Another vote for Quirkle. Also Blokus- my teens 17/14 love it. Mapominoes and Flags of the World are also good. Accentuate is hilarious. Good old Uno and Dobble are still favourites.

jellybeanteaparty · 25/07/2021 20:24

I was going to suggest Pandemic as it is a collaborative game. Ticket to ride usually goes down well with that age range who may have a mixed approach to games! Risk may be worth considering too

PaleBlueMoonlight · 25/07/2021 20:25

Camel Up. Great fun and clever .

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 25/07/2021 20:25

I got an "escape room in a box" card game last Christmas, can't remember what it was called, but god, it was impossible to work out how to play, so DD 13 and I abandoned it on the first attempt.

Redwinestillfine · 25/07/2021 20:27

Forbidden Island. It's a cooperative one but easy enough to pick up and doesn't take forever to play.

SapphosRock · 25/07/2021 20:30

Classic Warlord is brilliant

Sorry, I don’t like the Sherlock Holmes game.

We really enjoy Qwirkle and Mexican Train Dominoes.

Ginius · 25/07/2021 20:31

Dixit is great. There's no constant winner when we play, and today my five year old won with no help.

Quacks of Quedlingberg is also good for a varied winner, and is just a really fun game.
