Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Egypt - I felt on edge while in the cities even though I was with dh. Hot, dirty, hassly and apart from a few tourist spots, not very pretty.

Marrakech - for the same reasons as above.

Copenhagen - a lovely city, but I felt I saw it all while there and it was v expensive and a bit bland.

Madrid - I lived out there and have no desire to return, it's too hot and pretty meh. Almost every other Spanish city is better, even the smaller, lesser-known ones.

London
Australia
Kefalonia

@EmbarrassingMama

Brighton.

An arrogant dump.

How can a town be arrogant?
Gardentiger · 22/07/2021 13:39

Paris- as much as I love the museums and other places to visit, I just find it too knackering now. Its like Central London but dirtier and smellier. The metro is like a shit version of the London underground, lots of out of order escalators and walking for miles through stations. Beggers sending their kids to harras you when using cash points, bag snatchers and pick pockets

@Katela18

Hurghada in Egypt - can't leave the hotel without being constantly hassled and area is awful....also both got food poisoning
Yes, we stayed in El Gouna (purpose-built, no hassle) and went into Hurgada one day - completely different. I was pregnant and wanted a hassle free, easy holiday, which it was, the rest of the time. We enjoyed the holiday, and seeing the pyramids particularly, and I'd love to see Luxor some time but Egypt would be towards the bottom of the list of countries to visit again. The security situation and the way it is run make it a less appealing prospect than it was 16 years ago. And Cairo is just crazy, loads of traffic, really full on. It's just such a male-dominated society as well.

I agree about Cornwall. Apart from the south fishing villages and beaches it's not actually very pretty. I much prefer Devon. Cornwall to be is wet, expensive, and heaving with tourists.

Lanique · 22/07/2021 13:39

*Cornwall to me

HarebrightCedarmoon · 22/07/2021 13:41

I know what you mean about Brighton. I found it no escape from London at all. Probably a perfectly nice place to live, I'd live in London too above many other places, but I like my seaside places a bit quieter.

Mrsjayy · 22/07/2021 13:41

Arbroath

Nothing particularly wrong with it, just... nothing there... (also I'm allergic to fish, which is the main attraction!) not really sure why I went in the first place, actually.

Also Sterling, or at least, I wouldn't go there in October. Honestly, I'd believe you if you told me it was colder in Sterling than the North Pole. I've never experienced cold like it

Its Stirling you just had the wrong Jacket on Wink come today its roasting Smile

@WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld

Tay1980 That had me tooGrin I take it you mean Harrogate is 10 mins up the road from you and not from Bath?
A reasonably intelligent person might well conclude that it was what the poster meant.
Monoxide · 22/07/2021 13:42

Egypt - I felt on edge while in the cities even though I was with dh
I went in the 90s and it was great. Hardly any hassle at all. Went back around 2010 and it was dreadful, you were constantly hassled to the point that you didn’t want to go out of the hotel. It’s great to visit and see the sights, but you should expect that you’ll have to stay within the hotel grounds and only go out on guided tours.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 22/07/2021 13:43

Cornwall is beautiful, and so is Devon but both are far too busy at this time of year. I much prefer Norfolk in summer. Quietly lovely and not so many braying idiots. If you avoid the royal estates anyway Smile.

Maverick66 · 22/07/2021 13:44

London.

VickyEadieofThigh · 22/07/2021 13:45

Vancouver. I was utterly and completely underwhelmed.

spinningspaniels · 22/07/2021 13:46

Prague. Such a beautiful city that has been completely ruined by tourism. We were hassled constantly. Really would have loved to have seen it 20 years ago.

Benidorm. Went through it to get to Mundomar on holiday and we were literally open mouthed driving through the streets. It was like Blackpool with a heat lamp over it. Nothing remotely Spanish about it whatsoever.

AbstractEim · 22/07/2021 13:47

Jamaica

Frauhubert · 22/07/2021 13:47

Manchester- always feel like I’m on an ‘edgy’ 90’s grunge movie set about heroin addicts

Marrakech- the hassle, the begging, the every single person and their smelly dog wanting to trick you for money and if you don’t want to play their game they get aggressive and swear at you+ the whole city smells like a rotting gutter. Shame as the architecture and food are fantastic.

Paris- slowly becomes like Marrakech, and feels very unsafe. I lived 15 years in London and London just feels so safe and clean in comparison. I would never get on the Paris metro again- a few people i know, including myself were robbed

Geneva- so pretty, so quiet, so dull. Like most of Switzerland. Been once, don’t need to go anymore

Prague- so pretty, so touristy

Cardiff- been to watch rugby once, it was ok but wouldn’t go back

Cambridge- been a few times, every time it gets more and more boring. Yawn

Istanbul- beautiful but too big for me. It felt like it was 4 times the size of London

Stockholm- so beautiful. Feels dangerous. Also the swedes in Stockholm seem to think they are very very beautiful. 😅

AbstractEim · 22/07/2021 13:48

Also Portugal, Turkey and Tunisia

comebacksunshines · 22/07/2021 13:48

Bristol. Deadly dull. Everything was shut in city centre on Sunday evening when we passed through, no obvious night scene - as in bars and restaurants, not pissed up louts.

Lanzarote. Boring and soulless. Can’t see the attraction.

poorfanjo · 22/07/2021 13:48

Salem Massachusetts on Halloween!

MadisonAvenue · 22/07/2021 13:49

San Francisco. We went around 15 years ago and I had people telling me how much they loved it and that they were sure I’d feel the same. I hated it. We had four days there while driving around California and while we didn’t see the problems which PPs have mentioned the place just left me cold. One of the things that affected how I felt was the rudeness and indifference we encountered from staff in most places we visited.

NannyAndJohn · 22/07/2021 13:49

The Algarve.

I always thought those trashy "Brits abroad" documentaries were over exaggerated, then I visited the Algarve.

Crunchymum · 22/07/2021 13:49

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Holloway Prison

(Not really, I haven't been there... yet)

It doesn't exist anymore, it closed in 2016 Grin
Chunkymenrock · 22/07/2021 13:49

Venice.

LaMadrilena · 22/07/2021 13:50

I was in Senegal for 3 months, admittedly I was young and naive (off to save the world). Every guy "fell in love with me at first sight," and every one called me a racist for not having sex with him/marrying him.
