I can't sleep, it's so warm lol! Up at 7:20am... anyone else up?

MeanderingGently · 20/07/2021 02:51

I feel your pain! Can't sleep, can't breathe, too bloody hot. I have to go to work tomorrow too....

Twinkletwinklelittlecar · 20/07/2021 02:54

Been up for 3 hours with it now... I've opened the windows and will just have to deal with any spiders that come in.

Thack · 20/07/2021 02:55

I've put roll on deodorant on my groin /bikini line

mummabubs · 20/07/2021 02:56

I usually love hot weather but this is too hot. Was 31 degrees here today 🤦🏻‍♀️ We have a west facing bedroom and lounge, so both become unbearably hot from mid-afternoon. I'm currently up with my 9 week old who is only wearing a nappy but still hot and unsettled. She usually only sleeps when swaddled in a sleep bag but no way was I about to put her in one of those with this heat! Bring on the rain and thunder storms later in the week!

ShinySquirrel · 20/07/2021 03:03

I can't sleep in the heat.

I also can't sleep without a cover of sorts. I have nothing thin enough, which is why I'm now wearing a hideous prairie-style dress from Shein in lieu of a cover. I've draped myself diagonally across the bed in a dramatic fashion that means I catch the most airflow from our fan.

If anyone walked in now, I look like a polygamous sister-wife caught in the act of doing something dodgy.

YourCakesAreShit · 20/07/2021 03:10

I'm considering dying temporarily until this is all over. It's inconvenient and drastic but I think it's the only way.

RIP me.

GoodVibesHere · 20/07/2021 03:13

@shinysquirrel I've removed my duvet from its cover, so I'm sleeping under just the duvet cover. I'm like you, I need a cover of some sort and this works well as a thin cover if you haven't got a sheet to use

polkadotpjs · 20/07/2021 03:27

Yes. There's no air. Wide awake here too

ShinySquirrel · 20/07/2021 03:31

Good idea @GoodVibesHere but bless you for assuming I'm organised enough to have a duvet cover on the duvet in the first place Blush. I didn't get round to making the bed properly and the duvet covers are all downstairs.

DH is sleeping on the living room floor because he insists it's the coolest place in the house (he is wrong but I let him get on with being ridiculous) and I can't go downstairs for a duvet cover without waking him, hence the drastic improvisation of dressing myself up as a sister-wife.

stayathomer · 20/07/2021 03:31

Yes, hate it. Keep googling the weather in the hope that it won't show that this could go on more than a week. Kids to hot, pets too hot and we're all sleep deprived and cranky!!

Barely slept all night despite taking 3 frozen hot water bottles to bed, an ice pack that you use for injuries on my head, 2 fans and only a flat sheet draped partially over me. Luckily I can start work when I want really so I will be having a shower shortly and going into work so I can finish early. I wear a black uniform to work which isn’t the best in this heat. I did buy a portable neck fan so will be taking that in with me. I don’t care how ridiculous I will look. Having menopausal hot flushes too so it isn’t great. Roll on rain!

romdowa · 20/07/2021 04:35

I'm at my wits end with this heat now. Barely sleeping as no matter what I do, the bedroom is like a sauna. 24 weeks pregnant and I've been awake the last 2 hours with the heat😨 my phone shows another week of this and I'm honestly going to have a breakdown from it.

pollywollydoodler · 20/07/2021 04:36

Our house earlier...no sleep still

Meruem · 20/07/2021 06:27

I have a large paddling pool arriving today for me and DD. DD is 30 Grin
We decided we don’t care if the neighbours think we’re bonkers. I will alternate between sitting in the shade and sitting in the paddling pool. We also have Sangria for later in the evening.

I’m a firm heat hater but am fed up of hating it. I have portable AC in my room which is nice at night. But I’ve been shutting myself away 24/7 in there in hot weather, and it’s costing me a bomb to have it running all that time. I would recommend it though. The initial outlay is about £500 but my unit is still going strong 10 years on from when I bought it. Plus it isn’t too expensive to run if you just use it at night for a few hours.

devildeepbluesea · 20/07/2021 06:32

I usually struggle to sleep in the heat, although I love it during the day.

This week I've been soaking a towel and draping it over me in lieu of duvet. I've slept really well every night.

the80sweregreat · 20/07/2021 15:12

I feel drained!
I'm doing chores early morning and not much else the rest of the time.
( luckily not at work this week)
Good for washing though !

happymummy12345 · 20/07/2021 15:37

I hate the heat, and I’m extremely sun intolerant so I hate the sun as well.

If I’m ever fed up with the heat I just remind myself that it will never be as bad as 2015. In the heatwave we had in august 2015, I was 9 months pregnant (due date was 30th august). Being 9 months pregnant in a heatwave was the absolute worst. So if I coped with that it’ll be fine.

UrsulaPandress · 20/07/2021 15:40

I was just hanging up the washing and decided to put on a wet top.

It's brought me a few minutes respite.

Frozen hot water bottle - fab idea. Off to fill one.

Naaaaah · 20/07/2021 15:44

No, no one else is roasting op. It's only 30 degrees, so why would ANYONE be FUCKING ROASTING......

Egghead68 · 20/07/2021 15:47

I’m soaked in sweat. I can’t think, I can’t sleep. It’s such a struggle to work,

LunaNorth · 20/07/2021 15:49

I’m on my bed with a Dyson fan firing straight up my dress.

Etulosba · 20/07/2021 15:54

I’m not roasting. I slept under my duvet last night as usual. We haven’t had to get the fans out yet, so it must have been warmer in previous years.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 20/07/2021 16:20

Yes and I fucking hate it. Working in schools that are either old with tiny windows that hardly open, or more modern schools where at least one wall is filled with windows yet they still only open a crack is awful in this weather. Trying to get the children to produce anything other than basket work is like trying to get blood from a stone and I'm far too hot and sweaty in my work clothes. I can't sleep at night and we busy through the day. I can't eat much other than crap because I'm too hot and tired and everyone just seems to be permanently angry and fed up. Roll on the cooler weather!

garlictwist · 20/07/2021 16:30

I love it. Lying in the shade with some water and a book and I am a lovely temperature.
