Percy from The Green Mile is on my list
The Captain from Pan's Labyrinth.
At least Half of the characters in Wuthering Heights.

There's a lot more but my mind has just gone blank.

Who are your nominations?

Have we done Bertha Dorset yet?

“ Joyce Barnaby in Midsomer Murders”

Good Lord, why?! 😂 I thought her biggest crime was just being an insipid crashing bore. Tully always annoyed me for some reason.

funtimefrank · 20/07/2021 08:55

@DufferMum yes re Boy! Utterly awful and an horrific abuser.

I’d forgotten about Boy Dougdale - thank goodness Polly saw the light.

@BillyShears

Mrs. Reed in Jane Eyre. Spiteful old bitch.
Agreed though her son is arguably even worse. In Jane Eyre's words to Mrs Reed: 'I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed'. Really, a teen boy persistently bullying and victimising his little 10-year-old cousin....what a psychopath. The only good thing about him is that he died young.

Joyce is obvs the REAL Midsomer Murderer; every time she gets a new hobby, people DIE. And she and Cully are fairly irritating and smug Grin.

Angel judgey pants Clare.

The bastard brother in Kes who killed Kes.
Bob bastard Ewell.
Widmerpool in A Dance to the Music of Time; you just love to hate him. Also his evil wife Pamela who is utterly fucked up but basically sent poor Peter to his doom. I hold that one over her.
Miss Minchin in the film of A Little Princess- that traumatised me as a child.
Napoleon in Animal Farm.
Chessie France-Lynch. I know she lost her little boy but she was horrible anyway and would have been as bad had Will lived.
Roberto Rannaldini
Livia in I Claudius
YY to Alicia in Mallory Towers- cheeky and smug and a bully.
Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory- he's so, so selfish.
Daisy Buchanan- watched the world burn.

I also can't stand Jo March. She's not a villian - selling her hair for example shows she's anything but, but I also find it quite satisfying watching her get fucked over. It's usually deserved and a consequence of her own behaviour.

funtimefrank · 20/07/2021 15:29

For those who have picked characters from the work of genius that is Polo, I totally agree. Chessie is awful. Perdita is awful.

Hamish is also totally awful and has an awful mother. The bit where he takes her can opener. Awful. I like Ricky and Luke and that's it.

StColumbofNavron · 20/07/2021 16:20

I just want to say, YES to Jo March. I know I am prob BU but I don’t care.

MrsToothyBitch · 20/07/2021 19:49

@funtimefrank Polo is a masterpiece but SO. MANY. ARSEHOLES in that novel! Ricky and Luke are gorgeous all round though.
