I wouldn't take anyone or anything to Pontins!

ApolloandDaphne · 19/07/2021 12:49

A quick google suggests they accept dogs in some of their cabins.

PippaPots · 19/07/2021 12:54

I'm with CiaoForNiao, it wouldn't be fair to make a dog holiday at Pontins.

It's truly the pits.

Ask Pontins..?

Floralnomad · 19/07/2021 12:58

I’m not going to comment on Pontins as I’ve not been for 20+ years ( it was grim and we didn’t stay) but surely if you take the dog you won’t be able to do any of the activities as the dog likely won’t be allowed in the pool etc .

Horst · 19/07/2021 12:58

Poor dog what did it ever do to deserve such torture.

Seriously. Don’t go.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/07/2021 13:00

Poor dog, what did it do to deserve Pontins? It won’t be hygienic enough for your dog. Stay away.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 19/07/2021 13:01

I wouldn’t take my worst enemy to Pontins, let alone my dog!

Stealthynamechange · 19/07/2021 13:03

Fair enough - obviously a reason they are so cheap!!

Have you read any trip advisor reviews...or seen some of the YouTube bloggers who secretly film in Pontins.
Stealthynamechange · 19/07/2021 13:09

Yes but i know they are re doing some, im just looking for a base for ds, ddog & i, cheap near a beach in uk. We went to a haven site earlier in the year & loved it. But waaaay too expensive at the min.

You really didn’t deserve the vile classist torrent like that OP.
Hope you and your DS have a fun holiday you can afford.

3Britnee · 19/07/2021 15:48

Pontins is nothing like haven. Pontins is an absolute shithole. Go to park resorts or park holidays.

Which one were you going to go to? If it's camber there's a park resorts site just along from pontins and its much, much better.

Dinotruxagain · 19/07/2021 15:49

Another one for hell no avoid Pontons..however the Parkdean parks are loads cheaper than Haven and do accept dogs.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 19/07/2021 15:55

Read TripAdvisor reviews for pontins Camber sands.
I do if I am ever in a situation that falls short of expectations, it reminds me it could be worse. I could be at pontins Camber sands.

Is it really classist for people to tell the truth?

There's a reason Pontins is cheap. If that was all I could afford, I would stay home.

gogohm · 19/07/2021 16:07

Try park holidays, their bronze caravans allow dogs (or did)

CiaoForNiao · 19/07/2021 16:08

Definitely not classest here. Pontins is at the top end of my price bracket... I'm going camping instead. Its preferable.

starwarspyjamas · 19/07/2021 16:15

I saw a thread last year from a poor mumsnetter who paid for a 6 person chalet at brean sands, and arrived after many hours of congestion in the M5 to find one pillow, 2 chairs and a couple of plates for the whole family. The place was so filthy they got back in the car and drove straight back (getting home at midnight).

I would totally prefer camping than pontins. At least I know everything in my tent isn't covered in someone else's filth

fantastaballs · 19/07/2021 16:45

I stayed at Southport Pontianak few weeks before lock down #1. The place was absolutely minging. Everything in the room was covered in a sticky film of grease and moisture of the marches. The bar and arcade smelled like piss and misery and off the sticky carriers weren't enough, when I put my glass down on a al table , the table top fell off and rolled away. The "pool" was basically a an old pool that was so badly cracked that it had been refilled with a giant rubber sheet..... you could feel broken tiles and gravel wobbling under under the rubber under you foot.

But if you and your dog are looking for a holiday I understand. See if the rspca has spaces in a kennel that could could take you all. Likely be more comfortable and cleaner. In fact it would be luxury compared to pontins 😂

fantastaballs · 19/07/2021 16:53

And to ask the people shouting "classist".... I live in a council house. I love caravan holidays and shoe string trips out . Christ I spent every summer in north Wales in a caravan as a kid and can easily and happy mix with people as rough as they come AND fit in. But pointins is cheap for a reason. When I pulled up ( in a brand new r line Tiguan car) and said I was booked in, the security guard employed BY pontins laughed out loud and told me that I had made an enormous mistake.

Three/four weeks after lock down started my husband had to deliver several loads of armed forces to Southport pontins as they were being bright in for the door step testing projects etc. When he collected those soldiers the vast majority said they would prefer to be in a sand hole in Iraq or Afghanistan. There was a huge outcry in the area that our troops were being subject to such shit conditions. It's grim for 3 days at a time never mind 3+ weeks!!

3Britnee · 19/07/2021 16:59

If it's down to cost, do a sun holiday and pick any park except pontins.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if pontins was the only holiday place in the uk with availability atm 🙈

If that's the case, manage your expectations of what you're going to find there, read lots of reviews and just sleep there. Spend as much time as possible on the beach or nearby town etc. Have a look at the kids clubs they put on. But maybe take your own sheets and be prepared to deep clean the chalet when you get there. A holiday is what you make it 😁 I hope you have a nice time.

Mrsjayy · 19/07/2021 17:00

Can you check for static caravan sites they will take the dog maybe get a midweek break. Honestly it isn't worth the cheapness to go to pontius it is a miserable hole of a place, I'm not being " classist" Hmm saying it you would be miserable even using it as a base !

Horst · 19/07/2021 17:09

Most static sites will have basic caravans they all let pets in.

Not classist either I’m going camping

No person or dog however should have to put up with what pontins offers they should be shut down.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/07/2021 21:05

Classist, what nonsense. Have you ever read the trip advisor reviews for Pointins Brean sands. It needs to be pulled down. I don’t understand why it is allowed to continue trading. It sounds terrifying.
