All other things aside, they don't take dogs.
There are many static caravan sites that do though. We found ours on Pitch Up, we were looking for nice campsites but many have caravans to rent and are much cheaper than going through airbnb or similar.

I agree with the other comments.

It depends what you want.

If you are willing to go , take bleach spray and gloves with you and do a good scrub when you get there , fine.

And take your own bedding.

We went one Easter when the kids were young and they do tend to be in spots next to lovely beaches.

Camping might be a good option

Pontins is surprising. I saw the Camber sands one from the outside. It looks like it's been left to collapse. Really really run down. Never seen anything like it in the UK.
The location is fantastic and they could make a ton more with just a kick of paint and a good clean.
No idea why they wouldn't.

Mrsjayy · 20/07/2021 11:04

I don't understand why they don't clean pontins up I think they are owned by the same group that own haven so I don't think it is a money issue, I remember we we years ago to the Blackpool one and it was a tip then nothing seems to change!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/07/2021 11:11

Eee heck. Sounds like luxury to me. For ours 'olidays we used to go t' 'ole in ground.

gillysSong · 20/07/2021 11:16

Not fit for Dogs or humans.

tsmainsqueeze · 20/07/2021 11:58

Pontins Brean is the worst holiday place i have ever been to , so bad i was given a free holiday in one of their luxury apartments after my complaints .
It was a very long time ago before internet reviews .
My dogs would not be holidaying at pontins!

We stayed for 2 nights at Southport pontins in May. It was very last minute for a meet up with friends(booked the day before) £120 for 2 nights... you obviously get what you pay for..
We didn’t use the pool, just used our room as a base and went into Southport for the day and in the evening we booked restaurants so I can’t comment on their “pub” or pool as we didn’t use them.

Our room was really clean actually and not half as bad as I expected. Basic but clean.

We usually cruise and have at least 2 holidays abroad a year so this isn’t because I have incredibly low standards. It’s because if I’m paying £60 a night I’m expecting the absolute bare minimum.

Simbacatisback · 20/07/2021 12:22

@CiaoForNiao

I wouldn't take anyone or anything to Pontins!
When did you last go to Pontins? Or are you just making snobby remarks to seem above everyone else?
mpsw · 20/07/2021 12:41

Three/four weeks after lock down started my husband had to deliver several loads of armed forces to Southport pontins as they were being bright in for the door step testing projects etc. When he collected those soldiers the vast majority said they would prefer to be in a sand hole in Iraq or Afghanistan. There was a huge outcry in the area that our troops were being subject to such shit conditions. It's grim for 3 days at a time never mind 3+ weeks!!

The trip advisor reviews are enough for me to avoid the place.

2, 239 terrible reviews

333 excellent reviews

Divineswirls · 20/07/2021 15:38

Haven and Butlins are clean and well run.

Pontins is a disgusting sewer of a place

Last year. It was a fucking dump despite having apparently been deep cleaned over lockdown. My DC would rather have a couple of days trips than go back. Nowt snobby in it. I'd be hard pushed to afford Pontins these days. We've opted for camping. At least the dirt in the tent is ours and I expect to share it with bugs Grin

It’s haven and butlins that are both part of bourne Leisure as well as Warner brother hotels.
Horst · 20/07/2021 16:39

Britannia is who currently owns pontins and has done since around 2011

gillysSong · 20/07/2021 16:57

All of them are racist, Pontins got in trouble for racism, but all the others have similar lists of prohibited names.
Disgusting the lot of them.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/07/2021 17:46

Why are they allowed to continue trading. I don’t understand how they haven’t been closed down by the authorities.

Mrsjayy · 20/07/2021 19:10

Ah ok Well Bourne Lelsure should be ashamed !

Mrsjayy · 20/07/2021 19:12

So they are owned by another company , they should just close them down !

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/07/2021 21:44

The site must be worth a bit. I don’t know why they don’t bulldoze them and start again. It’s a shocking business model.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 21/07/2021 09:12

I have often pondered why they dont just bulldoze and start again as well. The site at Camber Sands is an utter waste of what could be a really great spot. I mean people come from miles to go to Camber and Rye is just up the road and shops etc are sparse. Surely it's a waste of a prime holiday spot. Even just putting a premier inn on the site would be better.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 21/07/2021 09:15

Parkdean and Park resorts are both cheap but clean and lovely sites. I like the fact they're quite small so don't get too busy. They also allow dogs.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/07/2021 09:16

They could employ me to sort it out. I’d take it on. It’s so frustrating when it’s prime location being wasted. It also has a knock on effect on the surrounding area.
