I don’t want to cook for the next few days, what are you eating in this heat?

Me, dh and 2 x ds.

We were going to have a bbq for tea but it’s too hot for that, tea today appears to be ice cream Grin

Looking ahead I don’t really fancy cooking for the next few days!! All but me are salad refusers and dh and ds9 don’t really eat vegetables either which makes summery hot weather foods very hard!

What do you eat when it’s as hot as this?

Tomorrow’s is home baked ham, chips, salad
Tuesday prawn biryani
Wednesday tuna, bean salad and potato wedges
Thursday fajitas and tons of bits like avocado, sliced spring onions, salsa and sour cream
If DH goes walking for a few days then salad, salad, salad!

PTW1234 · 18/07/2021 17:20

We had steak, salad and cheese for lunch.

I also like an open faced steak sandwich on some nice bread on hot days. Steak is so quick to cook so doesn’t make you feel hot.

Cold pasta salads are also great

Floralnomad · 18/07/2021 17:24

I’ve prepared a smoked haddock , tomato and pea cheese bake for tonight , which may not get cooked if duh doesn’t want it when he comes in from his building project . Tomorrow will be roast veg lasagne .

I'd say we've covered all socio economic spectrums on this thread!

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 18/07/2021 17:27

I've had fruit, fruit and more fruit. Snack a jack's (cheese ones) and some nuts.
Everyone else in the house is also just grabbing what's cold, quick and easy.

TheatricalGiraffe · 18/07/2021 17:50

We just ordered a mcdonalds, not at all healthy but we don't have much in (we shop on mondays/tuesdays) and it's too hot to walk to tesco to get anything..

Salad for lunches tomorrow then probably an omelette or something for dinner

LostInTime · 18/07/2021 18:06

DH, DS (12) and I have literally just had a magnum each, haven't wanted breakfast or lunch.
We're having chicken kiev, new potatoes and veg for supper.
DD had cereal for breakfast, an enormous salad with steamed chicken for lunch, and she'll have supper with us in an hour or so.
At least no-one has been snacking today...

ginghamtablecloths · 18/07/2021 18:22

I'll be eating salads which aren't exactly a favourite here but I can't bear the thought of slaving over a hot stove in this - I don't expect to lose weight either, sadly as I have to slaver so much mayonnaise over the damn things to make them palatable. Oh well, needs must.

Mudandrain · 18/07/2021 18:22

Quiche, potato salad and some veg

Pasta salad (cold)
Mozzarella salad and nice bread
Jacket potato, ham and cheese
Homemade pizza
Homemade scotch eggs and picky bits
Greek salad with flatbread
Ploughman's platter
Fish finger wraps
Roast chicken baguette
Club sandwich
Spanish omlette

Lovemusic33 · 18/07/2021 18:25

Yesterday we had cold chicken with salad and today we had fish finger wraps 😐. I’m struggling to cook in this heat but dd1 doesn’t really do cold food.

notacooldad · 18/07/2021 18:27

Tonight giant cous cous and roasted honeyed beetroot

Tomorrow I'm eating at work. Everyone else can have what ever they make.
Tuesday veggie lasagna . It's already partly made up. Sauces are in freezer, using mixed frozen veg.
Wed veggie sausage chersey casserole.

VerySmallPears · 18/07/2021 20:14

@clearsommespace It’s this one:
www.whats-for-supper.com/blog/roast-tomato-and-bay-orzo

I double it and serve it room temperature.

TawnyPippit · 18/07/2021 20:25

I’ve just made a Thai chicken curry. God knows why. It was very hot and absolutely not the best idea, but somehow it worked really well! All eaten, lots of seconds etc. It had loads of veg in it, so wasn’t heavy at all. Dunno, sometimes maybe people don’t want salad!

HumbugWhale · 18/07/2021 20:31

Dh did a cola ham in the slow cooker which is good because it gives off far less heat than having the oven on! I had some leftover courgette quiche from yesterday as I don't eat meat.
With it we had new potatoes, crudites, olives and pickled onions/pickled red cabbage. This went down v well with the dcs.
Saved half the ham for tomorrow and we will have jacket potatoes, cheese and more crudite type things with it.

JustCallMeBubblesDahling · 18/07/2021 20:41

Couscous (made with boiled water from the kettle) with feta, finely chopped peppers, spinach, spring onions, toms, and cucumber. Lemon and mint dressing. Would normally roast toms, peppers and courgettes for it. Quick fry turkey steaks for DH and DC. Pea protein burgers for me.

Tomorrow it’ll definitely be a cold picky bits smorgasbord.

clearsommespace · 18/07/2021 20:55

Thank you @VerySmallPears
That looks like something we would enjoy.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 18/07/2021 20:57

Yesterday M and S salads and mozzarella, today Wagamama’s, tomorrow Fatoush. Have to see what weather’s like on Tuesday and will decide then.

HeyMicky · 18/07/2021 20:58

Quiche and salad
Rotisserie chicken, coleslaw, flatbreads
Microwave rice pouch with leftover chicken and salad
Vietnamese-style cold prawn noodle salad
Slow cooker tacos (the slow cooker doesn't generate much heat)

cheerylilthing · 18/07/2021 21:02

Beef fried rice
Cold sliced meat, buttery new potatoes & salad
25 min baked salmon with broccoli, sugar snaps etc served with rice (we follow the recipe from The Quick Roasting Tin)
Steak & halloumi salad (served with chips and less salad bits for kids)
Jacket potatoes
Quiche & salad (or cheese and fruit)
Picnic selection

Broadbeanssleeping · 18/07/2021 21:04

Slow cooking here overnight, stops the house getting hot and you can prep when it's cooler.
Chicken, bean dishes, etc that can be eaten cold.

LemonRoses · 18/07/2021 21:05

I couldn’t bear a bbq in this heat.
Salads all week for us. I don’t care if it’s repetitive.
I’m making up tubs of coleslaw, Waldorf, julienne salad, potato salad and tabbouleh.
Then just doing different things to go with it each night. Homemade scotch egg, coronation chicken, onion tart, marinated salmon etc.

Hm2020 · 18/07/2021 21:06

I am having an Indian takeaway tonight Grin

zeromango · 18/07/2021 21:06

At the moment we're having a lot of cold picnic type stuff for lunch and tea - cold cooked chicken, various cheeses, grapes, buttered bread rolls, veg sticks, crisps, coleslaw, etc - anything that requires zero cooking basically Grin Dessert is loads of ice creams, ice lollies and strawberries!

amicissimma · 18/07/2021 21:10

Last night, gazpacho and bread.

Tonight, two pints of Pimms. Cheers!

WildSwimming101 · 18/07/2021 21:11

I made a fucking shepards pie tonight... Never doing that again unless it's 2degrees outside.

Flat breads
Cous cous
Pasta
Rice salad
Cold meats
Pizza
Bacon sarnie
Cheese on toast
Egg on toast
5 beans on toast
Toast
Un toasted toast 😎
