in what way do you often give yourself a little fright?

I sometimes get scared for a few seconds at night when I see a figure walking in the garden - then I realise it's me in the reflection of the glass doors🙄

Also I'm learning Spanish on Duolingo and I have to complete a lesson by midnight. about 10 mins ago I realised it was a few minutes to midnight so tried to do it quickly - turns out I'd done it already but forgot. phew

I know it can't be just me, what silly things like that do you do?

I occasionally buy patterned loo roll and it's such a novelty that for the first few days my heart flips because I think I'm bleeding - and it's just the pattern 😂

I love beetroot, and every time I buy it I say to myself out loud (to try to reinforce the message) this will make your pee red, you haven't got end stage kidney disease, it's just the beetroot. Still scares the shit out of me every time

The parasol in my garden looks like the grim reaper peering in. I get a fright at least once a day.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 18/07/2021 01:11

red pee & grim reaper

Constantly thinking I've lost stuff...that I'm holding in my Fucking hand!

Glasses, phone, pens, charger thingies, important letters I must not lose... you get the idea!

I once freaked out to someone on the phone that I'd lost my phone. They were like "calm down! What you on about?!" Grin

I've also freaked Myself out phoning people - when they've answered! But that's generally when I've been on hold an hour and forgotten I've got the phone on speaker!

The people who owned the house before us installed a ginormous mirror in the hallway. On my way to the bathroom many nights I screamed as I caught sight of a figure in the mirror. It was always just me

My hand fell asleep in the middle of the night and whacked me in the face. I shot up ready to fight whatever entity fondled me.

I turned over in bed and saw a ghostly white face staring intently into my eyes. It was my four year old. She was bored at 3am and wanted to watch me sleep.

Nights are hard.

I like this thread.

DH nearly scares me to death about twice a day. I’m the sort of person who gets lost in reverie when I’m drying my hair or whatever, and if he enters the room and I don’t notice, I practically shit myself when he finally enters my field of vision. I call him a bloody ninja, but in fact he’s a big six-footer just blithely going about his business.

Asparagus pee sometimes makes me think I have a UTI (I’m prone to them).

I'm quite active for my age and a bit weird as I enjoy running up the stairs. I treat it like a gym exercise. Running down not so much. I often nearly miss a step - honestly, my life flashes before me. It's so scary. I have to remind myself that I can run up but not down.

LuvMyBoyz · 18/07/2021 05:01

When I go running in the dark early mornings the street lamps cause my shadow to come up around and in front of me. Sometimes this makes me leap away in reaction….literally scared of my own shadow..

elp30 · 18/07/2021 05:32

I was alone in my house tonight from 4pm-11pm.
My husband, son and daughter were all out and it was eerily quiet.
I scared myself shitless when I heard something fall from a desk to the floor upstairs.
It was the cat jumping onto the table in a mad crazy cat moment.
It scared the life out of me!
The freezer has an ice maker and it's weirdly loud when it drops ice into the bowl every 15 minutes or so.

Hellcatspangle · 18/07/2021 07:20

Every time I accidentally flip the camera round to selfie mode and see my wrinkled old double chin gurning at the screen

LarryVeest · 18/07/2021 08:12

Sometimes my hair tickles my arm and I leap up, batting it away as I think it's a spider.

FindingMeno · 18/07/2021 08:22

Crossing the road.
I shouldn't be allowed out alone.
Even if there's no cars for 2 miles I get an adrenaline rush like I've got away with it by the skin of my teeth.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 18/07/2021 08:38

DH scared the crap out of me on Friday. He'd gone to work, realised that he really wasn't well at all and came home. He came in the back door and I didn't hear as I had my headphones on. I just saw this silhouette suddenly appear by the living room door and I shrieked.
He mumbled that he'd said hello and took himself off to bed.

isthismylifenow · 18/07/2021 08:43

So many times in the last year... All due to a bloody mask. I need all my senses to work together, otherwise I can't function properly. I don't know how many times I have nearly fallen down stairs because I can't judge them properly. Because my mouth and nose are covered, it affects my eye sight. I know it sounds completely bonkers. I kept my mask on to drive about 2kms where I had to get out again. Gave myself the biggest fright as misjudged a speed hump....

I am glad it's not just me that does things like this 😂

isthismylifenow · 18/07/2021 08:46

And then there is the fluff from a sock or some items of clothing on the bathroom floor, which after the dramatics, isn't really a spider.

ame88 · 18/07/2021 09:16

Love this thread! The patterned toilet paper made me laugh!
Im scared of my own shadow! Constantly jumping!!

This was me last week after eating M and S Beetroot crisps - convinced I had terrible bleeding until I remembered 🙄
onceagainaspredicted · 18/07/2021 09:47

I have never not jumped out of my skin when someone presses the buzzer for my flat. This happens even when I'm expecting a visitor and even when I'm getting a takeaway delivered and have been tracking the delivery person on my phone and KNOW they're about to buzz.

The other day the postman buzzed when I was doing something with my hands and I dug my fingernail into the nail bed of my other finger and it was bleeding everywhere.

Zenithbear · 18/07/2021 09:56

When I am at home on my own at night I sometimes get really absorbed in what I am doing that I'm suddenly sitting on my own in the dark.
Makes me shudder and I have to quickly switch the lamps on.

FizzyPink · 18/07/2021 10:00

I am absolutely terrified of mice and rats. For some reason I dream about them quite often and end up waking myself convinced that I’ve dreamt about them because there’s one in the room.

I then have to convince myself that there’s nothing there and to just go back to sleep. I have no idea why, we’ve never had a rat or mouse problem 😂

Needhelp101 · 18/07/2021 10:03

Me...

in what way do you often give yourself a little fright?
BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/07/2021 10:04

Pushing my car quite hard round one particular roundabout. I know it can do it, and it's RWD, but that last second I always think the back end will slip and it doesn't Grin. Gets the heart pumping!

OldTinHat · 18/07/2021 10:18

Not me but my elderly neighbour phoned me the other night to say someone was lurking in my garden (very long garden). It was a solar imitation Victorian street lamp in my garden, not a person at all...although I admit it's made me jump a few times!
