Gin and rum recommendations

Can anyone recommend really good gins or dark rums? I don’t drink either but I want to get some special gifts for a couple of people. Preferably something a bit unusual. Ta!

For gin I recommend Monkey 47 or Plymouth gin. I prefer a dry gin, though.

Gunpowder gin
Lovely and dry

For gin I'd recommend Mermaid gin, made on the Isle of Wight... it's lovely but a bit pricey though. Currently on offer at Tesco.

For a dark rum I'd say Dead Man's Fingers or Kraken, both are lovely.

Dh loves silent pool gin.
I like Appleton’s rum.
I do quite like a spiced rum from time to time but generally just an Appleton’s straight up Smile

Mrsjayy · 17/07/2021 12:29

Kraken is a good rum my Dds favourite.

Mrsjayy · 17/07/2021 12:29

Oh yes Deadmans fingers

Arbikie AKs is my favourite gin, made in Scotland. Isle of Harris is also nice and the bottle is beautiful as well. Both are about £35/40 a bottle.

ThePontiacBandit · 17/07/2021 12:49

DH loves Kraken rum.

I’m a gin drinker, I especially like Edinburgh Raspberry (gin liquor), Pin Gin (made in Lincolnshire) and Sipsmith. I don’t love the plain Mermaid gin mentioned above but the pink one is delicious.

Yeah the mermaid gin is very pretty, but only so so. Harris gin is lovley, very unusual, Plymouth gin is very good too!

Lundin raspberry gin is great if it a flavoured gin you are after.

I love a Havana Club rum - but only the dark no.9
I brought home so much from Cuba

Salford Rum is lovely.

Local gins to us are ‘What a hoot’and Black Shuck.
Both are delicious

Lakes Distillery gin, Salcombe gin and Ophir.

For rum, Rumbullion, Salford Rum, Duppy Share, and Plantation XO.

iamme21 · 17/07/2021 15:00

Rascal gin is delicious, I’ve had all three

Shmithecat2 · 17/07/2021 15:22

I'm not made keen on flavoured gins. Hendricks is my favourite, also Glaswegin - I was bought some of the latter for Xmas and loved it.

breadfortea · 17/07/2021 15:29

Woods Navy Rum is fantastic

BG21031 · 17/07/2021 15:33

Goslings for rum.

Hicks 125 if your liver can stand it. Comes from Guyana to Devon then stored for years. Needs mixing.

Not a regular gin drinker. Worst was Mermaid, IOW. Smelled of festering seaweed, the smell you get around where water enters the beach from a pipe. At least that's my opinion.

blissfulllife · 17/07/2021 15:35

Another vote for dead mans fingers rum.

Hellcatspangle · 17/07/2021 15:43

My favourite gin at the moment is Love Delhi gin. I haven't seen it in the supermarket but it's available online at various places.

Sexnotgender · 17/07/2021 15:44

Tanqueray Rangpur or Sevilla are both lovely.

Lundin Gorse Gin

MeanMrMustardSeed · 17/07/2021 15:45

I love Adnams Copper House gin.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 17/07/2021 15:50

Are you looking for a DARK rum specifically? Things like kraken and dead mans fingers are spiced rum not dark.

Katefoster · 17/07/2021 15:53

Rum- mount gay (my fave) or chairman's (husbands fave)

Gin- my faves are bulldog gin,Hendricks, sipsmith
