🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

@chocolatesweets

I don't know when we can go about without masks in Wales but I'll be scared to take it off incase I'm called selfish or inconsiderate of others.
I completely understand. I actually physically can't wear one hence the lanyard but the feeling is there. Flowers
ISaySteadyOn · 04/08/2021 11:01

Also what WrinklesShminkles said.

chocolatesweets · 04/08/2021 11:02

True folks.

justasking111 · 04/08/2021 11:41

Heard masks may stay in Wales.

Are Scotland keeping their masks?

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 04/08/2021 11:51

Are Scotland keeping their masks?

Seems so, for now anyway. The one-metre rule goes from next Monday but we're still being expected to wear masks in hospitality and public transport settings, and of course healthcare stuff. And we'll still be 'encouraged' to check in with phones/QR codes in pubs, restaurants etc. They're also still saying people should work from home 'where possible' although that's guidance rather than law I believe.

My gut says Sturgeon is anticipating a resurgence in the autumn/winter this year, and rather than do the hokey-cokey of mask rules that England will likely end up doing, thinks it'll probably play better if we keep them for the next few months, with the intention of getting properly rid next spring. It'll make her look more consistent and considered, which is no bad thing for her personal political brand.

With the devolved nations especially, up to now the leaders have had little to lose (politically) by appearing to be more cautious than Johnson, which isn't difficult. A lot of this is, I would wager, a positioning exercise.

That said, as the public mood shifts and it is shifting, slowly I think even the hawks like Sturgeon and Drakeford will find it harder to continue justifying the harsher measures, as there will be less and less political capital in it as time goes on. (Although if Sturgeon goes into government with the Greens here I think we'll start seeing some 'action' around climate along somewhat similar lines.)

WouldBeGood · 04/08/2021 12:08

They’ve made themselves look like complete dicks up here with even more nonsensical provisions.

So schoolchildren can party all night with no social distancing or masks, as can their teachers, but then must mask up all day in school. Snd maybe in a nightclub, though they’re not sure yet as it hadn’t occurred to them. It’s inane.

ISaySteadyOn · 04/08/2021 15:37

Was it one of you who recommended Black Books? If so, thank you!

justasking111 · 04/08/2021 16:23

People in Wales either prefer Drakeford cautious approach reading the comments in our Media and Facebook or the ADs are keeping quiet so as not to get lynched 😂

Taswama · 04/08/2021 18:59

Took DS2 to the cinema to see a Disney film for less than a fiver (both of us). Staff were wearing masks but no one inside was. Not exactly busy, maybe 15 people in total watching our film.

Friends in France meanwhile had to show their passe sanitaire to be allowed into the cinema and still had to wear masks.

WrinklesShminkles · 04/08/2021 20:04

I went to Sainsbury's after work today for my regular weekly shop. There were far fewer people wearing masks today compared to last week, and more staff without them too. I feel like we might be turning a corner 😀

The ONS has apparently estimated almost 95% of people have coronavirus antibodies - that's almost 19 in 20 people with some immunity, from whatever source. Which must surely mean cases, hospitalizations and deaths from covid will continue to decrease? 🥳

smallandimperfectlyformed · 04/08/2021 20:49

I went to Morrisons earlier today and I would say about half of the customers were wearing masks (including me) but almost all of the staff were unmasked. Certainly none of the women on the checkouts. I liked seeing their faces again!

justasking111 · 04/08/2021 22:46

I went to the co-op tonight. The checkout person and I chatting about masks. She said orders from above not to challenge people re masks despite the government wanting retail to enforce them still in Wales

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/08/2021 22:59

went to Splashdown Water park in Dorset on Sunday.
zero social distancing.
I loved it

RockaLock · 04/08/2021 23:04

I am on a reasonably busy train home from London to the 'burbs, after my first "out out" night out in a looong time (with work colleagues).

Zero masks are being worn. It's lovely Smile

BogRollBOGOF · 05/08/2021 00:05

I feel like I'm on holiday in last October in Tier 2!

Looking forwards to seeing good old English faces!
There must be a terrible miasma floating around the streets around here Hmm

@justasking111 I think they preferred him. Public sector full paid furlough jobs & people on the dole.

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 08:32

@RockaLock that’s good to hear.

I’m booked for a weekend in London in September with dcs, but was going to cancel as it seems you still need to prebook everything, like galleries, and am scared theatres will be Covid mental too

smallandimperfectlyformed · 05/08/2021 10:20

I don't think theatres are going to be covid mental WouldBeGood , they have been one of the hardest hit industries of all. I have seen clips of Hairspray on Twitter and they were joyful about being allowed to play to full capacity! The galleries I can't give you any assurances for, nor really museums, but bars, pubs and restaurants all seem happy to no longer have to deal with the restrictions from what I have seen. This may out me as a terrible food commoner but I was delighted last week to eat at a Pizza Hut buffet!!

ISaySteadyOn · 05/08/2021 10:29

Well, I am with you. That sounds great to me. Do they still have a salad bar?

I am really cross at having lactose intolerance now. It is everywhere. While it is probably good for me to have fewer things to eat, I miss a pizza where the melted cheese comes off in strings.

Went to craft shop today, staff maskless, didn't notice customers. So that's something.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 05/08/2021 11:10

Salad bar still there! The only real concession to Covid-19 was there was a hand sanitiser pump at the serve your own soft drink machine, which I didn't see until I had done my old drink! Lactose intolerance sounds awful, I tried to be vegan a few years ago for Lent and struggled immensely and had to give it up because I missed cheese and eggs so much (I know eggs don't have Lactose in them!!). In fairness to retail staff, wearing masks for eight hours a day must be horrible. I noticed at my local Asda the deaf man who works there had stopped wearing his mask and is probably delighted so many people aren't wearing them any more! I did offer to remove my mask for him when I was asking for a refund at customer services a few months ago, he said it was OK but they must have made life so difficult for him.

MrsEWeatherwax · 05/08/2021 22:16

I’m enjoying being maskless, even if they bring them back at least I will have had a few months freedom. How sad is that, I’m so conditioned.
My DD was told to put one on by security staff in Tesco because she is teenager. She told him she was exempt.
I have never been spoken too.
She was really nervous to go back in, but she was with me and I just walked in. Nothing said.

TabbyStar · 06/08/2021 06:15

Yeah I'm sure it is worse for young people not wearing masks and being thought selfish. Though someone asked my 88 yo mum to wear one when she clearly walks very slowly with a stick. She has COPD and gets incredibly breathless anyway and a mask makes it so much worse.

Taswama · 06/08/2021 07:45

That is so thoughtless Tabby . Now it's the holidays and I'm at work, DP has been using DS1 to run errands at the local supermarket, like we used to pre-lockdown. He's not mentioned anyone saying anything to him.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 06/08/2021 08:49

Sorry that happened to your mum TabbyStar I can't imagine why anyone would ask someone as visibly old and disabled as that to wear a mask. My 11 year old now refuses to wear a mask in shops, she wears one on the bus because TFL still insist on them but otherwise she won't do it and no-one has said anything to her.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/08/2021 09:12

Just turned my phone on for long enough to pop on here and let you all know I made it. I have been in Greece for a week now and it is heaven on earth. The only evidence that covid exists is masks on public transport and in closed fronted shops and there is hand gel on tables in restaurants. Wait staff wear masks too.

But life here is spontaneous, you don't have to plan everything to death months in advance and queue for everything and check in all over the place.

This is honestly the happiest I have been in a long time. Currently sat in my cousins garden drinking frappe, eating pastries while the kids play.

I hope you are all doing well and sending my love to you all.
