I have just found the divergence association task, which purports to measure creativity. My score was 90 point something 🙂

Hope the link works!

83.98

azimuth299 · 14/07/2021 15:32

I enjoyed that! I got 91.35.

My top one was turquoise-apoplexy at 106, followed mandolin-encephalitis at 104.

DedalusBloom · 14/07/2021 15:36

105 for osteopathy/arc

I think it’s going to favour people with good vocabularies, to be fair.

newnortherner111 · 14/07/2021 15:41

83.71. Very high score when pebble was followed by cowpat!

frogswimming · 14/07/2021 15:44

I couldn't even be bothered to think of the first word Confused

Pickersgill · 14/07/2021 16:02

Love this! I scored 93.27. But I so have adhd so random things popping in my head is completely normal for me...

steppemum · 14/07/2021 16:23

@DedalusBloom

105 for osteopathy/arc

I am interested that so many people posted such complicated words.

I didn't. I took it to mean that the words have to be from as wide a context as possible. So I thought of a variety of contexts and tried to find typical words So mine were

chapapti
book
daisy
bridle
cog
knife

it scored 86. Chapati an book scored 104

CandyCaneLane0 · 14/07/2021 16:32

93.24

SimonJT · 14/07/2021 16:37

Hmm, not sure how reliable the software is, I used urdu word with standard alphabet characters and scored 78.47.

Grenlei · 14/07/2021 16:43

93.88

Annoying my 3 most obscure words were ones that weren't recognised (it was initially 4 but I changed one).

LilacSorbet · 14/07/2021 16:44

90.58

I'm not sure it really measures creativity, rather, a good vocabulary.

Sunny4876 · 14/07/2021 16:45

85.73 only 7 were validBlush

Bargebill19 · 14/07/2021 16:51

I got 70%. Apparently dogs and cats aren’t used in the same sentence very often.

EBearhug · 14/07/2021 17:25

I suppose where it's measuring creativity is that your mind can go from one thing to another without being stuck in a rut. So if you went dog-cat-fish-rabbit-hamster-gerbil, it suggests you can only think about one subject, but if you went dog-filbert-encephalopaphy-skirt-computer-aphid, then it assumes your mind can go all over the place. This assumes that creativity comes through finding links in seemingly unconnected things and doing something new as a result.

I haven't actually read the papers linked at the bottom of the quiz, though, so I could be talking utter codswallop.

It does favour first-language speakers and those with a large vocab (who don't worry about whether words count as too technical.)

yeOldeTrout · 14/07/2021 17:25

hmmm... I dunno if I trust the scoring system. I tried combo that seemed like they should closely go together -- still got score > 50%tile??

I know how MNers love to take tests, so
yeOldeTrout · 14/07/2021 17:26

oh no, I'm an idiot, lol, can't read. That was a 1%tile result.

Bargebill19 · 14/07/2021 17:30

Ok I’ve resubmitted. Apparently it’s 95% likely that pyjamas and boating will be in the same sentence - giving me 80% score but only 17% change of cats and dogs being in the same sentence.
Which is odd.

AlexaShutUp · 14/07/2021 17:39

88.41. Only did it once and quite quickly at that. Apparently higher than 94.1% of people who did the test, so I'm happy with that, despite the very high scores from people here on MN!Wink

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/07/2021 17:41

@Ebearhug

I only ever do tests if I know I'll have a good result.
I know I'm creative, I've always been told that my associations were incredibly unusual.
I often say "oh, that reminds me of..." and people are flummoxed because nothing I say is remotely in connection with the previous story🤣

And although English is my second language I have a fairly large vocabulary so that helped!

I'd love to know how the scoring is worked out. and what combos would give 200!

GiantWingedWaspMoth · 14/07/2021 17:46

Are you sure you haven't misunderstood? The more similar they are, the lower the percentage
Twoforthree · 14/07/2021 17:57

I was bang on average but I didn’t use big words. I tried to think of different contexts. I could use plenty of uncommon nouns if that would get me a bigger score?

GetTaeFuck · 14/07/2021 18:01

77.85

With 105 between oven and nihilism Grin

Twoforthree · 14/07/2021 18:03

Tried it again using uncommon words and I got a much better score, but surely that’s testing my vocabulary rather than my creativity.

passthepoutine · 14/07/2021 18:08

96.12. I've had a really bad day and that's cheered me up.
