Just that really, either home cooked, restaurant or food hut- anywhere in the world. What’s the best thing you have ever eaten?

I’m sad I can’t have a Katz deli Rueben sandwich everyday and it’s too far for me to go to just for one (New York) although my waist line is probably greatfull

Having walked for several hours across some mountains, we stopped for rotisserie chicken, really fresh baguette and really good creamy salty butter. Soooooo good.

Oneearringlost · 13/07/2021 17:12

I'm afraid to say it was Foie Gras, in France, in an outside restaurant in the Dordogne.
Wouldn't choose it again, ( prob couldn't, anyway). I didn't have the awareness then of the horrific process involved in producing it.

Merchymor · 13/07/2021 17:12

After a big night out on the lash at the Eisteddfod we scraped together our last pennies, bought a big fat veggie burger from a food truck and it was heaven.

VeganVeal · 13/07/2021 17:13

Barbarillian menwasby steak grilled over coals served with latto-basso sauce in a martillian wholemeal grian wrap, used to have them everyday until I had to return to the UK. Miss them so much

CushionsandCandles · 13/07/2021 17:14

NHS tea and toast post delivery- ambrosia!!!

Couldhavebeenme2 · 13/07/2021 17:15

Best hot chocolate ever was in a tiny street cafe (undercover because of the rain) in Paris, just over the river from Notre Dame. Never been able to recreate in 20 years.

Mansplainee · 13/07/2021 17:15

A simple but amazing Cacio e Pepe in a little restaurant in Trastevere area of Rome.
I’ve tried and miserably failed several times to recreate it at home.

NeedNewKnees · 13/07/2021 17:17

The Black Swan at Oldstead, tasting menu.
Every mouthful was glorious, original and to be savoured.

Caci e Pepe with black truffle in a small place in Rome was up there. And the BBQ we had with the mackerel we’d caught ourselves, homemade potato salad to family recipe, green salad from the garden and a bunch of our friends around was very good too.

And my first visit to Hansa’s for vegetarian Gujarati food was a pretty big deal.

Mansplainee · 13/07/2021 17:17

Or a cheese toastie that I very drunkenly ate at 2am in Glastonbury about 5 years ago. I still think about that toastie.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 13/07/2021 17:17

We stayed at a place called Berber lodge in Morocco where they don't have a menu you get what they serve. Mostly stuff grown in their gardens and boy it was the best food I've ever had.

NeedNewKnees · 13/07/2021 17:18

@Mansplainee - cross posted, but yes! Never quite managed it at home (yet)

evtheria · 13/07/2021 17:18

@VeganVeal I actually googled that.

Inmypjsagain · 13/07/2021 17:20

@MyFloorIsLava yesss, something about a warm baguette with salted butter is SO good.

soupey1 · 13/07/2021 17:20

A crab cake sandwich in Atlanta, it was perfect - so much so I had it again a week later.

TeamSpike · 13/07/2021 17:22

All of the food in the buffet restaurant when I went to the Maldives. All fresh and brought in every day. Curries, steak, fish, Lasagne, all of it amazing. Was 8 years ago and I still think about it

Margaritawithlime · 13/07/2021 17:22

Went to Barafina for my birthday before they moved. Sat at the bar and ate the most amazing tomato salad. We ate more than that of course: meats, cheeses, pan con tomate and tortilla. Washed down with so much red wine. They closed the restaurant for lunch and kept us there as we hadn’t finished our wine. Then the staff all came out and ate with us. They brought us More salad, ham, just amazing tapas and more wine. Until the dinner service when they opened up again and we finally left.
It was more of an experience than a meal but I’ll remember that salad forever.

ahoyshipmates · 13/07/2021 17:28

Fish & chips on the seafront in Swanage in about 1984.

motogogo · 13/07/2021 17:28

@Shookethtothecore

Prawns, etc and served with lemon rice, salad and potatoes, seriously yummy and the worst thing about moving away is I can't go there often
