Just that really, either home cooked, restaurant or food hut- anywhere in the world. What’s the best thing you have ever eaten?

I’m sad I can’t have a Katz deli Rueben sandwich everyday and it’s too far for me to go to just for one (New York) although my waist line is probably greatfull

Nasi goreng in the Maldives, lobster Mac n cheese in Newport, RI, lobster and fries from Arnold's on Cape Cod, a fish stew in the Balearics and cataplana on the Algarve. I love fish and seafood and don't have enough of it here in the UK.

Too many nice meals to choose from but the best drink I've ever had was a peanut butter and chocolate milkshake from five guys in Leeds.Liquid snickers.I think about it regularly.

A slice of hot buttered toast served to me after I gave birth to DD..........I had hyperemesis and terrible nausea from 6 weeks and vomited at least once every day of the pregnancy.
It was the first food I had enjoyed in 9 months!!!

Aria in Sydney
L’Enclume
Black Swan at Oldstead
Grilled swordfish at a local restaurant in Mochlos, Crete.

When I was 17 (and not very well travelled) my boyfriends mum gave us a voucher for the Butler’s Wharf chop house. It’s a bang average restaurant at best and I’ve been back since and had crap meals but at 17 it seemed very posh.
I had the fish and chips and remember thinking it was the best meal I’d ever eaten. I can only put it down to it being one of my first proper restaurant meals and part of the experience that made it taste so good.

A steak sandwich from the Delicious Deli and Café in Gisburn three days into a five day hike, with a glass of ice cold lucozade to counteract the heat exhaustion from having to divert along the A road for miles in baking July heat. Tasted bloody amazing.
Other honourable mentions include a fondue made in our uni kitchen by a Swiss friend, and falafel flatbreads from a stand called Najars near the Ashmolean in Oxford

I once went alone on a five day trip to Barcelona. I had seafood paella 5 nights on the run, it was so amazing

GirlAloud · 13/07/2021 18:43

The tasting menu at Sat Bains. Just unbelievably good.

Holothane · 13/07/2021 18:46

Prawns king sized curry love it. In fact anything with prawns.

Our first night of our Honeymoon was a Monday night in LA. We went incredibly jet-lagged and just went to the hotel restaurant. They were testing their new menu and gave us a taster of something called sweet corn cappuccino. I've no idea what else I ate that night, but that was heavenly.

At the other end of the scale, Wagamama started delivering round our way towards the end of lockdown 3. My first meal from there was the nicest thing I'd eaten in months, it was a different standard (although I'm not sure how much that says about my cooking though Grin).

At a random little restaurant in Mammoth Lakes, California

Rare ahi tuna, a side of the fries, seasonal veg cooked in god knows what way but it was amazing...plus bowl after bowl of salad from the most insane fresh salad bar I've ever seen in my life. Even my salad dodging OH still talks about it!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/07/2021 18:46

Moules-frites and local rosé in a tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme three years ago. Everything was perfect.

Georgyporky · 13/07/2021 18:51

In a restaurant in what was Yugoslavia, we'd ordered the seafood platter & were getting impatient when it didn't arrive.
The waiter pointed to a little fishing boat about to dock nearby.
Absolute heaven, & well worth waiting for.

AdaColeman · 13/07/2021 18:53

The cup of tea and slices of toast with jam, that a lovely kind night nurse brought me at about three in the morning, when I finally came round after an operation that had started the previous morning.

Sliced white bread has never tasted so good. I will always remember how kind she was to me.

SadieBaneso · 13/07/2021 18:54

The tasting menu at Dopolavoro in Venice for an anniversary dinner. It’s on a private island so you have to get there on their shuttle boat. Every course was incredible. The service was exquisite.

Also sitting by a canal in Amsterdam in the pouring rain with bin bags over our heads eating frites and mayo.

When we’d just arrived in Las Vegas for our wedding and horrendously jet lagged, a burger and fries in the New York hotel.

Hog dogs and knishes in Central Park then chocolate dessert in Cafe Lalo.

The most amazing cheesecake I’ve ever eaten in Carmines in NY. Could have licked the plate clean.

Mogloveseggs · 13/07/2021 18:56

A strawberry, pecan and feta salad the other week in rivington. Divine.

whiteroseredrose · 13/07/2021 18:58

In the 1980s in a British Rail dining car - halibut with creamy potatoes and white wine. It was first class but goodness knows how they achieved that in such a small kitchen.

Greenrubber · 13/07/2021 19:02

@CushionsandCandles

Yes why is tea & toast after birth amazing? I was told it would be by my midwife but wow

I'm due in September but I'm also vegan now so can't have their tea and toast I will have to take my own butter and oatmilk in

LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 13/07/2021 19:02

A freshly cooked KFC at a motorway services at about 11 at night.

God I still fantasise over it. Best KFC I've ever had.

SingleHandSue · 13/07/2021 19:03

The jammy shortbread biscuit given to me with a mug of tea after giving birth to DS2. I’d been avoiding sugar because I’d been told I was borderline gestational diabetic. That sweet, sweet biscuit was gorgeous.

Fish and chips from Fish Tram Chips in Llandudno sitting on the sea front with DH at the end of a gorgeous summers day. They were the best fish n chips I’ve ever eaten.

Last month we had an amazing Indian meal at Pondicherry in Ironbridge. I only had a chicken korma and couldn’t believe how tasty it was. Everything there was just beautiful.

Landslidelife · 13/07/2021 19:03

Hospital itu gamon, chips and peas. Had been in hospital 3 weeks and been septic, after my 3rd surgery in 3 weeks they'd cleared most of the infection so I was feeling much better and it was the first thing that had tasted ok in weeks. I had it the following week on the ward and realised it wasn't that amazing but at the time it had been great.

troppibambini6 · 13/07/2021 19:05

Mine was a shellfish stew I had at bistro Paloma in the old town in Marbella. A German lady at the next table was eating it, she saw me looking and said it was fantastic. She wasn't wrong!

LadyofMisrule · 13/07/2021 19:06

The coriander-encrusted rack of lamb from Woody Bay Hotel in Devon. If anyone in here knows Martin and Colette Petchey, the former owners, please let them know that I still dream happy dreams about my holidays there.

Bonjourfern · 13/07/2021 19:09

Rare Fillet steak in Sorrento. Huge steak, creamy Gorgonzola sauce! The best steak I've ever had. The restaurant is called Meating if anyone is interested.

Thisusedtobeaniceneighbourhood · 13/07/2021 19:11

I had a pretty incredible steak in Gothenburg once.

The horrid hospital lamb hotpot I snaffled after giving birth was pretty divine though.
