WWYD if you got pinged on holiday (in U.K.)?

As title says, if you got pinged due to exposure in a cafe or restaurant or attraction during a U.K. holiday would you “isolate” in situ or pack up and drive home?

I did get pinged on holiday. We were in a seaside town for a couple of nights, just me & DH. We went back to the B&B, I sat in the car on my own and DH packed our room up and we drove two hours home.

tryingtocatchthewind · 10/07/2021 21:57

I’ve wondered this. I’m due to go to London for a couple of days next month. What happens if I’m pinged while I’m there? I can’t really get on a train home but I won’t have anywhere to stay in London. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen

covetingthepreciousthings · 10/07/2021 21:59

Is this the app or a phone call? I think the app isn't actually legally enforceable? If it was a phone call I'd probably come home or stay in my room.. but the app, I'm not so sure.

Ugzbugz · 10/07/2021 21:59

Well its a difficult one as you could have been sat 20 feet apart so zero chance of catching it. How many days have you been told?

I don't have the app so can't comment much further and all this checking in is ending soon apparently.

Beecham · 10/07/2021 22:02

I'd delete the bloody app and get on with my holiday

NotYourHolidayDick · 10/07/2021 22:03

Delete the app? Ignore entirely and get the fuck on with my holiday. Simples.

RoseAndRose · 10/07/2021 22:06

You get to a place where you can isolate it's the minimum of contact with other people.

Which is a bit shit on everyone else if you have to use public transport - so go at the quietist times you can, touch as little as you can, and keep as far away from other people as possible

Ifitquacks · 10/07/2021 22:06

Wouldn’t happen as I don’t have the app.
I would of course isolate if I got a phone call from test and trace.

bloopshoop · 10/07/2021 22:11

You'd be mad to ruin your holiday cos of a ping from that unreliable app.

Mairyhinge · 10/07/2021 22:11

Exactly what I did. I reserved a table somewhere for a few of us so there was no need to check in as they had my details. I ended up not going yet I got pinged as being in the same place as someone who tested positive! I wasn't there! The other members of the party didn't check in as the venue had my details - it's all a ridiculous joke & this proves it doesn't work. Also the venue didn't close ( which you'd think they would if they've had a positive case).
sunnymondays · 10/07/2021 22:12

You go home. Obviously...

It happened to us and the place we were staying let us rebook the rest of our trip as a thank you for following the guidelines that are in place to protect people.

miltonj · 10/07/2021 22:20

Why would you go home? You're away so you won't have been socialising with people you know and getting up close. It would ping because you have been vaguely near someone in a cafe, not close contact. Just delete the app and enjoy your time away Smile

warmandtoasty2day · 10/07/2021 22:23

i hardly ever take my phone out with me so just carry on regardless.

PandemicPalava · 10/07/2021 22:26

That app is a complete joke.
Delete it. If you are concerned just be extra cautious what you do on holiday

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 10/07/2021 22:31

This is the exact reason I turned off the location settings for my app yesterday. I'm going on holiday in two weeks, don't want it cancelled...

Fwiw I'm double jabbed as is DH, and we're staying with family who are also double jabbed, and just going on lots of walks in a national park. No meals out etc as SIL doesn't want to run the risk of a ping stopping her from running her cafe. All pretty low risk, and IMO life has to go on now

HermioneWeasley · 10/07/2021 22:34

It wouldn’t happen because I don’t have the stupid unreliable app

NeedWineNow · 10/07/2021 23:23

As an example I got pinged the other day and tracked it down to my hairdressers. When I rang them they said that the relevant person had gone into the store at least 2 hours after I'd left. This is what annoys me, there's no way of checking out so I was linked to someone where I'd had no contact.

motogogo · 10/07/2021 23:38

I don't have the proximity function turned on. It's only advisory anyway, it only counts if you are identified as a close contact by tract and trace or in few other's circumstances eg work colleagues or schools

BertiesShoes · 11/07/2021 08:24

Same here, neither do any of my family. We leave phone numbers if we really have to, but I never answer my phone to an unknown number anyway!

OhGiveUp · 11/07/2021 08:27

I'd delete the app ( not that I have it and never will ) and carry on with my holiday.

CirqueDeMorgue · 11/07/2021 09:16

Yep, same.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/07/2021 09:33

I do not have the app so it wouldn't happen.

Tubbs99 · 11/07/2021 09:34

I wouldn’t have been pinged in the first place because I wouldn’t have had the app

tsmainsqueeze · 11/07/2021 15:25

Me too.

tsmainsqueeze · 11/07/2021 15:27

@tsmainsqueeze

Me too.
I would delete and carry on .
