WWYD if you got pinged on holiday (in U.K.)?

As title says, if you got pinged due to exposure in a cafe or restaurant or attraction during a U.K. holiday would you “isolate” in situ or pack up and drive home?

No app either, deleted it months ago.
Only enforceable ones are through track and trace actually ringing you.

MrsDThomas · 11/07/2021 15:31

Absolutely not. Delete the app and live your life.

moynomore · 11/07/2021 15:32

Ignore.

VanCleefArpels · 11/07/2021 15:42

Having recently been pinged (and did the time!) I removed the app precisely because we’ve hit a couple of short breaks coming up. We test regularly at home and double jabbed so I don’t feel concerned about potentially being within a few metres of someone who subsequently tested positive.

Frazzled2207 · 11/07/2021 15:45

I’d probably go and get some LFTs if I didn’t have some. And get on with the holiday.
My dh asked me about this before we went on holiday. He never got the app in the first place. Ridiculous that potentially I would have to isolate and he wouldn’t just because he never downloaded it. I still have it (as you still need it to check in places)but have disabled the contact tracing

StCharlotte · 11/07/2021 15:47

I turned the contact tracing (Bluetooth) part of the app off just before Christmas when my next door neighbour (terraced) tested positive. Never turned it on again.

You can still "check in" although it's completely meaningless but it reassures whoever's on the door.

TSSDNCOP · 11/07/2021 15:51

I deleted the stupid app months ago. It picks up even if you're in a different room/floor to a case. If I got a phone call I'd toe the line, but otherwise the app can fuck off.

TSSDNCOP · 11/07/2021 15:52

I reckon that's what happened to Kate Cambridge too. Someone in Wembley stadium tested positive and she pinged.

Saidtoomuch · 11/07/2021 15:54

Switch the ap off. Just distance from everyone, wear masks indoors and make sure you are double vaccinated.

FuckingFabulous · 11/07/2021 15:56

I will deleting that app before we go to Cornwall next month!

I was under the impression the check in part was entirely separate to the bluetooth part. The latter is literally when two bluetooth phones talk to each other and one of them has covid so the other one gets pinged. Best just to switch this part off I’ve decided.

Whereas the checking in bits gives t&t your contact details (similar to if you filled it in manually) so you can be called by them. So not meaningless but often pointless as you can’t check out of any venue.

If I’m wrong about that I’m happy to be corrected

LST · 11/07/2021 15:58

Yeah I'd deleted the app so there is no way this would happen..

Hadenough21 · 11/07/2021 16:01

Delete the app and get on with your life. Isolation of contacts is ending soon anyway. Don’t ruin your holiday over this.

santabetterwashhishands · 11/07/2021 16:02

I got pinged on Thursday because my next door neighbour has tested positive 🤨
I've deleted the app now because I've not even seen them in weeks so I'm at no increased risk I just happen to live close 🤷‍♀️

CosmicComfort · 11/07/2021 16:08

I have turned off contact tracing and won’t be checking in to any venues.

I have booked all restaurants for our holiday so they have my details anyway and other than that we will just be walking.

itssoooofluffy · 11/07/2021 16:25

Depends. PCR tests seem to be fairly accessible (at least where we live), and results usually on the same day, so if I was concerned I would do that and if negative carry on. If positive I would probably go home.

Are they not still limited to those with symptoms?

Hate the bloody app. I got pinged at work because my handbag was next to a colleagues bag who got Covid. I hadn’t even seen her let alone be in the same room as her! Stupid thing. I deleted the app after that.

PeonyTime · 11/07/2021 20:18

DS got an email from school this weekend when we were away with friends.
One positive lateral flow test later (friend had a box on holiday Shock) and we were packing and coming home.
PCR confirmed covid, and one ill child being fed calpol and lemonade. He's not eaten since breakfast Sat.

PeonyTime · 11/07/2021 20:20

PCR currently recommended for those identified as close contact.
